Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said there's a "good chance" Manaea pitches Friday against Milwaukee after Wednesday's and Thursday's games against Atlanta were postponed due to inclement weather, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

The left-hander was scheduled to start Thursday's contest, and it's hardly a surprise the Mets are hoping to get him on the mound as soon as possible in preparation for the wild-card round next week. Manaea has a 3.29 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 183:61 K:BB over 178 innings through 31 starts this season.

Suzuki (ankle) isn't in the Cubs' lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies.

Suzuki suffered a sprained ankle during the sixth inning of Tuesday's game, and it seems to be bothering him enough to require a day off Wednesday. Patrick Wisdom will step in to serve as Chicago's designated hitter and bat fifth.

Busch (triceps) isn't in the Cubs' lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Phillies.

Busch departed Tuesday's game early after getting hit in the arm by a pitch, and he'll now take a day off to recover during Wednesday's series finale. His absence will put Cody Bellinger at first base, opening up right field for Kevin Alcantara to make his MLB debut while batting ninth.

Peterson won't pitch as scheduled Wednesday against Atlanta after the game was postponed due to inclement weather, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.

Hurricane Helene has caused MLB to postpone both Wednesday's and Thursday's games, which will be made up via a doubleheader Monday if the results of those contests could affect playoff positioning. New York is currently a half-game up on Arizona for the final NL wild-card spot, with Atlanta being just a half-game back of the Diamondbacks. The Mets haven't disclosed how they plan to adjust their rotation following the pair of postponements, but Peterson could pitch this weekend in Milwaukee.

Sale will not pitch as originally scheduled against the Mets on Wednesday, as the game was postponed due to inclement weather in Atlanta, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.

Thursday's contest was postponed as well, so Atlanta and New York will play a doubleheader Monday in order to make up the two games. Meanwhile, Sale's next opportunity to start will arrive Friday, when Atlanta hosts the Royals.

The Cubs recalled Alcantara from Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Alcantara, 22, has slashed .278/.353/.428 with 14 home runs and 14 stolen bases between Double-A Tennessee and Iowa this season. He's one of the Cubs' most physically-gifted prospects, although questions remain as to how much he'll ultimately hit. It's not clear how frequently Alcantara will play this week, but there could be a path to at-bats if Seiya Suzuki's ankle injury Tuesday forces him to miss some time.

De La Cruz is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers.

De La Cruz will get a break after he went 3-for-11 with a double, a walk and a run scored while starting in each of the last three games. Utility man Nick Yorke will occupy De La Cruz's usual spot in right field.

Yorke will start in right field and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Brewers.

After making each of his last three starts at second base, Yorke will shift to the outfield Wednesday while normal right fielder Bryan De La Cruz gets a day off. Yorke has now picked up eight starts in the Pirates' last nine games and has produced a .280/.296/.400 slash line with one home run and two steals since being called up from Triple-A Indianapolis on Sept. 16. He should be in store for near-everyday playing time in the final week of the season.

The Cubs optioned Mastrobuoni to Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Kevin Alcantara was called up from Iowa to take Mastrobuoni's spot on the 28-man active roster. Mastrobuoni will likely finish the 2024 season with a .194/.245/.224 slash line in 50 games for the Cubs.

Cook is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers.

Cook will hit the bench after he went 3-for-14 with a solo home run and a stolen base while starting each of the past four games at four different positions (first base, left field, right field and center field). First base could end up being the primary home for Cook over the final four games of the season after the Pirates moved Rowdy Tellez off the 40-man roster Tuesday.
