Abrams went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 4-2 loss to Toronto.

Abrams got the Nationals on the board in the sixth inning, when he took Brendon Little deep for a 386-foot solo homer to right field. Abrams had a productive series in Toronto despite Washington being swept, with the 24-year-old shortstop going 5-for-12 with two doubles, three runs, two home runs and three RBI. The Nationals have an off day Thursday before starting a three-game home series against the Diamondbacks on Friday.

Herrera went 3-for-4 with a walk, three home runs and six RBI in Wednesday's 12-5 win over the Angels.

The 24-year-old took Yusei Kikuchi deep in the fourth and sixth innings before capping his huge performance with an eighth-inning blast off Brock Burke. In the process, Herrera became the first catcher in Cardinals history with a three-homer game. The long balls were also the first of the season for Herrera, and through five appearances so far in 2025 he's batting .467 (7-for-15) with two doubles, five runs and eight RBI.

Gray didn't factor into the decision Wednesday, coughing up five runs on five hits over six-plus innings in a 12-5 win over the Angels. He struck out nine without walking a batter.

The veteran right-hander tossed 61 of 88 pitches for strikes, but he eventually got punished for living in the strike zone, as Logan O'Hoppe slugged a grand slam off Gray before he could record an out in the top of the seventh inning. The Cardinals' offense quickly took him off the hook for the loss, however. Gray has a 15:2 K:BB through his first 11 innings this season, but that comes with a 5.73 ERA thanks to three homers allowed. He lines up to make his next trip to the mound on the road early next week in Pittsburgh.

Gonsolin (back) is scheduled to start for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday, Comets broadcaster Alex Freedman reports.

Gonsolin began the season on the injured list due to a back injury he suffered in mid-March, but he's progressed enough in his recovery to begin a rehab assignment in Triple-A and is expected to pitch two innings Thursday. Gonsolin went 8-5 across 20 regular-season starts for the Dodgers in 2024 and posted a 4.98 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 82:40 K:BB across 103 innings.

Gore (0-1) took the loss Wednesday against the Blue Jays. He allowed three runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out five over five innings.

Gore allowed only one hit in his Opening Day start against the Phillies on March 27, but he ran into more trouble Wednesday. Despite generating 18 first-pitch strikes and 12 whiffs, Gore allowed at least one baserunner in four of the five innings he worked, though he limited the damage to three runs by stranding eight men on base. The 26-year-old southpaw will look to earn his first win of the 2025 season in his next start, which is tentatively slated next week at home against the Dodgers.

Cruz went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and a stolen base in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Rays.

His fifth-inning solo shot off Ryan Pepiot was Cruz's second long ball of the season, while his first-inning steal was already his sixth in seven games. The 26-year-old stole a career-high 22 bags in 2024, but Cruz seems intent on eclipsing that mark by the All-Star break. He's batting .261 (6-for-23) with four runs, four RBI and a 6:7 BB:K to begin the campaign.

Santana walked one in a scoreless ninth inning Wednesday to record his first save of the season in a 4-2 win over the Rays.

Getting Pittsburgh's first save opportunity since a struggling David Bednar was demoted to Triple-A, Santana tossed 16 of 24 pitches for strikes to get the job done against the heart of Tampa Bay's order. Colin Holderman, the other likely candidate to get a shot at closing duties, entered the game in the eighth inning and allowed a run, so the Bucs' bullpen hierarchy seems set for now. Santana has a 2.70 ERA and 3:3 K:BB through his first 3.1 innings on the year, and while he's had control issues at times in the past, the 28-year-old right-hander did post a career-best 7.3 percent walk rate in 2024.

Skenes (1-0) picked up the win Wednesday, allowing an unearned run on three hits over seven innings in a 4-2 victory over the Rays. He struck out six without walking a batter.

Last season's NL Rookie of the Year was dominant once again, firing 72 of 102 pitches for strikes, and the only run to cross the plate against Skenes was helped along by an Isiah Kiner-Falefa throwing error in the sixth inning. Skenes has a 1.46 ERA and 13:2 K:BB through his first 12.1 innings in 2025, and he'll look to keep rolling in his next start, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Cardinals.

Freeman (ankle) isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus Atlanta, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Wednesday will mark the third straight game Freeman has missed since aggravating his right ankle injury while in the shower over the weekend. Enrique Hernandez will pick up another start at first base and bat eighth while Freeman continues to recover. The eight-time All-Star will get an extra day to rest up with the team day off Thursday, though his status for Friday's series opener in Philadelphia remains up in the air.

Harris is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Dodgers.

Harris started the first six games of the season but will receive Wednesday off after beginning the campaign in a 3-for-23 slump. Eli White will receive a start in center field for the series finale in Los Angeles.
