Reds manager Terry Francona said that McLain is not in Thursday's lineup against the Phillies due to a calf issue, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.

It seems at this juncture to be a day-to-day injury, but with the All-Star break looming, the Reds could choose to put McLain on the injured list if he doesn't improve in a hurry. He's been playing center field lately versus lefties, but because McLain is banged up it will be TJ Friedl in center against southpaw Jesus Luzardo on Thursday.

Crooks is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest versus the Brewers.

Crooks has now been in the lineup just once over the Cardinals' last eight games. Part of that has been the schedule, as they've faced five lefties over that span and the lefty-swinging Crooks doesn't play against southpaws. Additionally, Ivan Herrera typically catches for Michael McGreevy and Andre Pallante, who is starting Thursday. The situation makes for a frustrating playing-time crunch for Crooks.

Fermin will start at third base and bat eighth in Thursday's game against the Brewers.

It's the eighth consecutive start for Fermin, who is 8-for-26 with one home run and three doubles over that stretch. The start is also Fermin's fourth straight at third base versus a right-hander, as he seems to have inched past Blaze Jordan as the Cardinals' preferred option at the hot corner.

Jordan is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Brewers.

Jordan's playing time has slipped lately, as this is the third straight game versus a righty that he's been out of the lineup and the fourth time across the last seven tilts that he hasn't started. The rookie infielder is just 4-for-28 at the plate over his last 30 plate appearances. Jose Fermin will cover third base for the Cardinals in Thursday's series finale.

Sanoja isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Mariners.

Sanoja has hit safely in each of Miami's last four games, but the team will keep him on the bench to begin Thursday's series finale while Leo Jimenez starts at the hot corner, batting ninth.

Mack isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against Seattle.

Mack will catch a breather Thursday after going 0-for-6 with a walk during the first two games of the series. Liam Hicks will fill in as Miami's catcher, allowing Heriberto Hernandez to serve as the designated hitter.

The Marlins placed King on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a left lateral ankle sprain.

It's unclear when or how King was hurt, but the injury will cost him at least the next two weeks of action. The lefty reliever has provided quality work out of the Marlins' bullpen, posting a 2.48 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and 30:10 K:BB over 40 innings.

The Marlins recalled Gusto from Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday.

Gusto has turned in a 5.55 ERA and 1.60 WHIP across 24.1 innings with the Marlins this season, but he'll return to Miami on Thursday to provide the big club with an additional long-relief option for its final stretch of games before the All-Star break. Zach Brzykcy was optioned to Jacksonville in a corresponding move.

The Marlins recalled Hinds from Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday.

Hinds is a career .172/.221/.426 hitter with a 42 percent strikeout rate over parts of three major-league seasons, but he has loads of power when he does connect. He would be worth a deep-league flier if he plays regularly while Owen Caissie (calf) is out, but there's no guarantee of at-bats for Hinds.

The Marlins placed Caissie on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a right calf strain.

Caissie suffered the injury during Wednesday's contest against the Mariners. It's unclear what the severity of the strain is, but even a mild calf strain could result in longer than a minimum absence for Caissie. Rece Hinds is grabbing Caissie's roster spot, and he will be in the mix for starts in the outfield along with Heriberto Hernandez and Esteury Ruiz while Caissie is out.
