Gurriel is not in the Diamondbacks' starting lineup against the Dodgers on Wednesday.

Gurriel will begin Wednesday's game in the dugout while Tim Tawa starts in left field and bats ninth. Gurriel has slashed .292/.362/.569 with four home runs and 14 RBI across 80 plate appearances since the beginning of May.

Meyer didn't factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing one run on five hits and a walk over six innings in a 2-1 loss to the Cubs. He struck out four.

A solo shot by Kyle Tucker in the first inning was the only blemish on Meyer's line, but Miami's offense couldn't get much going against Cade Horton and the Chicago bullpen. That left Meyer settling for his fifth quality start of the season, but his first in May as he pulled out of a tailspin that had seen him post a 7.97 ERA over his previous four outings. The 26-year-old right-hander will look to build on this performance in his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week in San Diego.

Horton came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Marlins, allowing one run on six hits and three walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out three.

The rookie right-hander tossed just 54 of 92 pitches for strikes in his third big-league appearance and second start, but Horton generated 16 swinging strikes to help limit the damage from the traffic he put on the basepaths. Neither Shota Imanaga (hamstring) nor Javier Assad (oblique) are expected back until at least mid-June, so Horton should get a long runway to prove he belongs in the majors. He'll take a 4.40 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 10:3 K:BB through 14.1 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Rockies.

Smith is not in the Dodgers' starting lineup against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

Smith will get a breather after going 2-for-6 with two walks and two RBI over the first two games of the series. Dalton Rushing will serve behind home plate and bat eighth in Wednesday's finale.

Patrick didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 8-4 extra-innings loss to the Orioles, allowing one run on four hits and a walk over 4.2 innings. He struck out seven.

The seven strikeouts tied the right-hander's season high, but Patrick had trouble putting batters away and got lifted after 89 pitches, with a whopping 27 of his 60 strikes coming on foul balls. He's failed to last five innings in three of his last six starts, a stretch in which he's posted a 3.98 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 25:7 K:BB over 31.2 innings, and that inability to provide the Brewers with consistent length could cost him his rotation spot when the staff gets healthier. Patrick is scheduled to make his next trip to the mound at home early next week against the Red Sox.

Santana struck out two in a perfect ninth inning Wednesday to record his fifth save of the season in a 3-1 win over the Reds.

David Bednar worked Monday and Tuesday and collected the save in the latter game, leaving him unavailable Wednesday afternoon. Santana also worked the eighth inning Tuesday but was still fresh enough to remain a perfect 5-for-5 in converting save chances this season. Bednar appears to have inched back ahead in the pecking order for the Pirates' closer job, but Santana's 1.77 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and 13:3 K:BB through 20.1 innings on the year will keep him firmly in the high-leverage mix.

Heaney (3-3) picked up the win in Wednesday's 3-1 victory over the Reds, allowing one run on three hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out four.

The veteran southpaw tossed 64 of 97 pitches for strikes as he gave up two runs or fewer for the third straight start, and the seventh time in 10 trips to the mound this season. Heaney's been far from dominant -- he managed only nine swinging strikes Wednesday and sports a 14:9 K:BB in 19.2 innings over four starts in May -- but he continues to avoid hard contact, and all three hits he gave up to the Reds were singles. He'll take a 2.91 ERA and 1.13 WHIP into his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week in Arizona.

Singer (5-3) took the loss Wednesday, giving up two runs on five hits and four walks over five innings as the Reds were downed 3-1 by the Pirates. He struck out three.

Cincinnati's hitters only managed four hits on the afternoon, giving Singer no margin for error, but the right-hander didn't help himself by throwing just 57 of 102 pitches for strikes. The four free passes were a season high, but he's issued multiple walks in four of his last five starts, posting a 6.29 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 14:13 K:BB over 24.1 innings during that stretch. Singer will try to get back on track in his next outing, which lines up to come on the road early next week against Kansas City -- the team he spent the first five seasons of his career with before being traded for Jonathan India in November.

Williams and the Nationals won't play Atlanta on Wednesday after the game was postponed due to rain in Washington.
