McGreevy could be recalled from Triple-A Memphis to make a spot start Sunday against the Dodgers, Daniel Guerrero of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

The Cardinals are likely to use a spot starter at least once this month as they navigate a stretch with 28 games in 29 days. McGreevy was pulled from Tuesday's start with Memphis after throwing 75 pitches over 4.1 scoreless innings, seemingly in an effort to keep his arm as fresh as possible for a start this weekend. Giving McGreevy a start Sunday would allow extra rest for Andre Pallante, who has a 7.47 ERA over his last three starts.

Nimmo went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's win over the Dodgers.

The veteran outfielder has thrived since returning to action from a stiff neck and being moved up to the No. 2 spot in the batting order. Nimmo has hit safely in eight straight starts dating back to May 26, batting .344 (11-for-32) over that stretch with a .417 OBP, one homer, one steal, four RBI and seven runs. Wednesday's pilfer was just his second of the season, but Nimmo did swipe a career-high 15 bags in 2024 and could increase his output in that category over the remainder of the campaign if he continues to flash the on-base skills that fueled his fantasy value earlier in his career.

Norby went 1-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's loss to the Rockies.

It was the 24-year-old infielder's fifth steal of the season but first since May 10, as he was caught stealing on his only two attempts during that time. Norby's 88th percentile sprint speed suggests he could remain a steady contributor in stolen bases if he keeps getting opportunities, but reaching base has been an issue for him -- since the beginning of May he's slashing .248/.282/.381 with two homers, 10 runs and 13 RBI in 29 contests.

Hernandez went 2-for-3 with an RBI in Wednesday's loss to the Rockies.

After going 0-for-5 in his first three games for the Marlins, the 25-year-old rookie collected his first big-league hits and first RBI, with his seventh-inning single getting Miami on the board in a 3-2 loss. Hernandez has filled a short-side platoon role in the outfield since his late-May promotion, but he'll likely get bumped from the roster once Derek Hill (wrist) is healthy.

Hjelle (1-0) earned the win in Wednesday's 6-5 victory over San Diego, allowing one walk and striking out one in 2.2 scoreless innings.

The 28-year-old was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday after Jordan Hicks (toe) was placed on the 15-day injured list. Hjelle threw 18 of his 28 pitches for strikes and retired seven straight batters after allowing a walk. The right-hander had posted a 2.97 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and a 32:10 K:BB across 30.1 innings in 18 appearances with Sacramento before being recalled.

Iglesias gave up a run on two hits and a walk in the ninth inning of Wednesday's loss to the Diamondbacks. He struck out one.

The Atlanta closer was brought in for the top of the ninth with his team down 1-0, but Iglesias couldn't prevent an insurance run from crossing the plate -- something which loomed large when Atlanta scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the frame. Iglesias has been tagged for at least one run in seven of his last 10 appearances, posting a ghastly 7.71 ERA, 2.04 WHIP and 8:3 K:BB in 9.1 innings over that stretch while converting two of three save chances. As yet, there's been no indication manager Brian Snitker is considering removing Iglesias from the closer role, but his strikeout rate on the season has swooned to a career-low 24.8 percent, and there's little sign of a turnaround in his recent performances.

Johnson started in right field and went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's 6-5 win over the Padres.

Johnson joined the big leagues Wednesday after his contract was selected from Triple-A Sacramento. The 29-year-old singled in the fifth inning before stealing second and subsequently scoring on a double by Patrick Bailey. Johnson added another single in the seventh before coming around to score the game-tying run. He had recorded a .272/.312/.534 slash line with 18 RBI, 16 runs scored, six homers and five steals across 26 games with Sacramento before joining San Francisco.

Moreno is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest in Atlanta.

Moreno started the first two games of the series, so he'll get a breather in Thursday's matinee. Jose Herrera will catch and bat ninth as the Diamondbacks go for the sweep.

The Cardinals recalled O'Brien from Triple-A Memphis on Thursday.

O'Brien will serve as the 27th man for Thursday's doubleheader against the Royals and will likely be sent back down after the twin bill. The right-handed reliever has made three appearances in the majors this season, allowing three runs with a 2:2 K:BB 2.2 innings.

Scott is out of the lineup for the first game of Thursday's doubleheader versus the Royals.

The Royals are sending a southpaw (Noah Cameron) to the bump for the first game of the twin bill, so the left-handed-hitting Scott will take a seat while Lars Nootbaar slides over to center field. Scott is slashing just .185/.274/.222 in 64 plate appearances versus lefties on the season.
