  • Reds' Michael Toglia: Getting steady playing time

Toglia will start in right field and bat sixth in Wednesday's contest against the Cardinals. Toglia will be making his second start in right field and sixth start in 10 games since being called up from Triple-A Louisville. He's gone just 3-for-19 with a 2:8 BB:K thus far. Lefty swinger Hector Rodriguez is likely to see most of the reps in right field against right-handed pitching, but the switch-hitting Toglia could settle into the short side of a platoon in right field while also seeing occasional starts at other positions.

  • Reds' Michael Toglia: Joins big-league club

The Reds selected Toglia's contract from Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday. Toglia has spent the entire season at Louisville, where he slashed .273/.373/.547 with 22 homers, 65 RBI, 49 runs scored, four stolen bases and a 56:103 BB:K across 402 trips to the plate. The switch-hitting Toglia possesses plus power but owns an inflated 35.0 percent strikeout rate spanning 1,067 big-league plate appearances. He has the ability to play first base and right field and will likely see some at-bats at designated hitter.

  • Reds' Michael Toglia: Cut from big-league camp

The Reds reassigned Toglia to minor-league camp Monday. Non-tendered by the Rockies in November after hitting just .190 with a 39.2 percent strikeout rate in 88 games in the majors last season, Toglia caught on with the Reds on a minor-league deal over the winter and received the chance to compete for a spot on the Opening Day roster. However, Toglia showed no signs of improving his poor contact rate during the early stages of Cactus League play, striking out in four of his nine at-bats. The 27-year-old switch-hitter should get the chance to play on an everyday basis at Triple-A Louisville to begin the season, but he'll likely need to cut down on his strikeouts before he gets another look in the majors.

  • Reds' Michael Toglia: Lands with Reds on MiLB deal

Toglia signed a minor-league contract with the Reds on Saturday. Toglia looked to be a key part of Colorado's future when he posted a .767 OPS with 25 home runs and 10 stolen bases over 457 plate appearances for the big-league club in 2024, but the 2019 first-round draft pick dropped off dramatically this past season, slashing just .190/.258/.353 with 11 long balls and three steals across 337 plate appearances. He's always demonstrated plenty of power and also went deep 11 times over 42 contests for Triple-A Albuquerque last season, but Toglia has also struggled making a contact, and he posted an awful 39.2 percent strikeout rate with the Rockies in 2025. That was a large part of the reason why Colorado designated him for assignment and subsequently non-tendered him in November. However, the Reds will give him a chance to make an impression, though Toglia will likely open the season in the minors.

  • Michael Toglia: Officially parts ways with Rockies

The Rockies non-tendered Toglia on Friday. After finishing the 2024 season with a .767 OPS, Toglia's offensive production dropped dramatically in 2025, as he finished the year slashing .190/.258/.353 across 337 plate appearances. Most of the 27-year-old's struggles came on the road, as he posted just a .481 OPS across 178 plate appearances away from Coors Field, which doesn't exactly help his chances of finding regular big-league work with any of the other 29 clubs.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: DFA'd by Colorado

The Rockies designated Toglia for assignment Tuesday, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. Toglia looked like he was set to be Colorado's first baseman of the future heading into last season, when he opened as the team's primary first baseman. However, the 2019 first-round draft pick struggled mightily during his time in the majors, posting a .190/.258/.353 slash line with a 39.2 percent strikeout rate. While Toglia flashed big power with 25 homers across 457 plate appearances in 2024 and went deep 11 times across 42 games with Triple-A Albuquerque last season, his poor contact against major-league pitching ultimately led to his removal from the Rockies' 40-man roster.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Homers in loss

Toglia went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's loss to the Guardians. Toglia's lone hit of the night went deep to left field in the seventh. It was his first hit since July 18 and just his second home run since June 19. There's known power in Toglia's bat, but he has played himself out of a regular role at first base due to his cold hitting.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Losing out on regular starts

Toglia is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles. Toglia appears to have lost his regular role at first base to Warming Bernabel, as he'll be on the bench Sunday for the third time in four games. Since getting called up from Triple-A Albuquerque on June 16, Toglia has hit .193 with four home runs and one steal in 30 games while continuing to strike out at a high rate (37.3 percent).

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Not starting Saturday

Toglia isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Orioles, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. After going 0-for-15 over his last four games, the switch-hitting Toglia will step out of the starting nine Saturday against left-handed starter Trevor Rogers. Warming Bernabel will make his MLB debut as Colorado's first baseman while Toglia rests.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Sitting again Wednesday

Toglia is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Toglia will take a seat for the second time in the series while he's batting just .155/.231/.239 with a 39.7 percent strikeout rate over his last 20 games. Kyle Farmer will get the nod at first base Wednesday, and Toglia could soon be headed back to Triple-A Albuquerque if he's unable to cut down on the strikeouts in his future starts.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Breaks home run drought

Toglia went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk Sunday against the White Sox. Toglia had gone 13 starts since homering, but he ended that drought Sunday with a two-run blast in the fifth inning. Despite the lack of power, he's in the midst of a seven-game hitting streak, during which he's gone 7-for-23. Since being recalled June 16, Toglia has 10 RBI and five runs scored across 18 contests while hitting .250.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Trio of doubles

Toglia went 3-for-5 with two RBI doubles and an additional double during Tuesday's 9-7 loss to the Dodgers. Toglia clubbed a double in each of his first three at-bats, marking his fifth three-hit game of the campaign and his first career game with three doubles. In 242 plate appearances this season, Toglia is slashing .210/.277/.397 with nine home runs and three stolen bases.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Homers again

Toglia went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Wednesday against the Nationals. Toglia has started three straight games since being recalled by Colorado on Monday and has showcased the power that was missing earlier in the season. He homered in a second consecutive contest Wednesday with a solo blast in the sixth inning and has three total since his promotion. While that production is encouraging, he has struck out once in every contest and has a 38.2 percent overall strikeout rate across 220 plate appearances for the season.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Getting break to work on swing

Rockies interim manager Warren Schaeffer said that Toglia is out of the lineup again Thursday in order to work on his swing and approach, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. Toglia is absent from the Rockies' lineup for a second straight day Thursday and the third time over the last six contests. However, it sounds like this is more of a reset for the first baseman rather than a demotion. Toglia is slashing only .205/.272/.367 with a league-leading 71 strikeouts this season.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Out of lineup again Thursday

Toglia is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest against the Phillies. It's the second straight day and third time over the last six games that Toglia has been absent from the Rockies' lineup. The switch hitter does not appear to be injured, so it could be that he's losing his grip on a starting job. Toglia leads all of baseball with 71 strikeouts this season and has struck out at a 41.7 percent clip in May. Kyle Farmer is at first base for a second straight day Thursday.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Not starting Saturday

Toglia isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Diamondbacks. An 0-for-3 performance Friday snapped Toglia's brief four-game hitting streak, and he'll now take a seat Saturday against Zac Gallen and the D-backs. Kyle Farmer will fill the opening at first base and bat fifth.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Heating up in May

Toglia went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 8-3 loss to Texas. Toglia has now recorded at least one hit in five of his last six games, and he added his third home run in the month of May. The switch hitter now has six multi-hit efforts in 2025, and he's batting .281 with three long balls, two doubles and five RBI over his last 32 at-bats (nine games). Toglia's fantasy appeal gets a considerable boost when he plays at home, as evidenced by his .886 OPS across 75 at-bats at hitter-friendly Coors Field this year.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Power coming around

Toglia went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and two walks Friday against the Padres. Toglia has struggled to get going at the plate this season, though there have been some positive aspects to his performance across the last two weeks. Four of his five home runs have come in his last 13 games, and he's also delivered seven RBI and four runs scored. Despite that short-term success, he has just a .208 average with a 35.2 percent strikeout rate across 145 plate appearances on the campaign.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Continues to thrive at home

Toglia went 1-for-4 with a home run and an additional RBI in Tuesday's loss to Atlanta. Toglia got the Rockies on the board in the second inning Tuesday with a solo shot, his third homer of the year. The slugging switch hitter now has at least one hit in nine of his last 12 outings, but Toglia's splits in home and away games could continue to define his overall fantasy appeal. Toglia is batting just .120 with one long ball, one double and four RBI over 50 at-bats on the road, but he's hitting .308 with two round trippers, three doubles and nine RBI across 52 at-bats at Coors Field.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Drives in three runs Friday

Toglia went 3-for-5 with three RBI in Friday's 8-7 loss to Cincinnati. Toglia tied things up at 4-4 in the third inning on a two-run, ground-rule double, and he drove in a third run in the fifth on an RBI single. It was Toglia's second multi-hit game of the year and the second time he's logged at least three RBI in a game. He's gone 9-for-34 with two walks, two runs scored, one home run and eight RBI over his last 10 games.
