Atlanta optioned Dodd to Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday.

Dodd will depart Atlanta's bullpen in order to make room on the pitching staff for Hurston Waldrep, who was recalled to start the first game of Saturday's twin bill against the Marlins. Dodd owns a 3.80 ERA and 0.84 WHIP through 21.1 big-league innings on the year, giving him a good chance to return to Atlanta at some point before the end of the season.

Boyd (11-5) took the loss Friday, giving up three runs on seven hits over five innings as the Cubs fell 5-0 to the Cardinals. He struck out three without walking a batter.

Hits came in bunches against the veteran southpaw, resulting in a one-run second inning and a two-run fifth for St. Louis, and a lack of run support left Boyd with no margin for error. He's gone three straight outings without getting into the win column since having a five-start win streak snapped, but he's remained tough to square up -- Boyd's served up only one home run over those last eight trips to the mound, a stretch in which he's posted a 1.80 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 42:8 K:BB in 50 innings. He'll face a tough test in his next start, which lines up to come on the road next week in Toronto.

Atlanta optioned Ornelas to Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday.

Ornelas will end up as the odd man out on Atlanta's bench after the team claimed Vidal Brujan off waivers from Baltimore on Friday. Ornelas went 2-for-4 and scored a run during his time with the big club.

Atlanta recalled Waldrep from Triple-A Gwinnett ahead of his start in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Marlins at Truist Park.

Although he carries a 4.42 ERA and 1.48 WHIP through 19 starts in the minors this season, Waldrep was effective in his 2025 debut for Atlanta in this past Sunday's MLB Speedway Classic. While technically making a relief appearance after the game was suspended in the first inning Saturday before being resumed Sunday, the 23-year-old gave up just one run in 5.2 innings against the Reds. He'll now aim to silence a Marlins squad that has been surging since the All-Star break. Dylan Dodd was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Schmitt went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 5-0 win over the Nationals.

Schmitt went deep to pad the Giants' lead in the sixth inning. The infielder continues to hold down a starting role at second base. He's been fairly steady at the plate lately, going 13-for-51 (.255) with three homers and eight RBI over his last 13 games. Overall, he's at a .249/.321/.412 slash line, seven homers, 24 RBI, 19 runs scored, eight doubles and no stolen bases through 56 contests this season.

Devers went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Friday's 5-0 win over the Nationals.

Devers took Jake Irvin deep in the first inning. After some streaky hitting in July, Devers has started August fairly well, going 7-for-26 (.269) with two homers and six RBI over his first seven games of the month. Overall, he's at a .255/.380/.462 slash line with 21 homers, 79 RBI, 66 runs scored and a stolen base through 117 games between the Giants and Red Sox, but his numbers have been notably down since he was dealt to San Francisco.

Teng (1-1) allowed three hits and a walk while striking out four over five shutout innings to earn the win over the Nationals on Friday.

Teng took the hill in the second inning after a perfect frame from opener Matt Gage. It was a good overall effort from the Giants' pitching staff, with Teng standing out with an efficient 64 pitches (42 strikes) during his outing. He rebounded from allowing five runs over 3.1 innings versus the Mets in his season debut last Saturday. Teng is likely to get another turn through the rotation, as Landen Roupp (elbow) is nearing a rehab assignment, which may consist of only one start. Should Teng get another turn, he's tentatively projected to face the Padres at home, though it's unclear whether he'll start or work behind an opener.

Irvin (8-7) allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits and struck out three without walking a batter over 5.1 innings, taking the loss Friday versus the Giants.

Irvin allowed two of those runs in the first inning, and he was done for the game after Casey Schmitt's two-run home run in the sixth. Irvin has allowed at least four runs in five of his last eight starts, and he's given up 10 homers in that span. For the season, the right-hander has a mediocre 4.90 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 91:43 K:BB through 136 innings over 24 starts. He's projected to make his next start on the road versus the Royals.

Ohtani went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored in Friday's 5-1 win over the Blue Jays.

Ohtani has picked up an extra-base hit in four of his last five games. He's hit safely in all seven of his contests in August, going 12-for-27 (.444) to begin the month hot after posting a modest .204/.321/.505 slash line -- with nine homers and 19 RBI -- over 24 games in July. The two-way superstar is up to a .280/.383/.609 slash line, 39 home runs, 75 RBI, 108 runs scored, 16 stolen bases, 16 doubles and seven triples across 114 contests this season.

Betts went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, an additional RBI and two total runs scored in Friday's 5-1 win over the Blue Jays.

Betts' fifth-inning homer was ultimately all the Dodgers needed in the win, but he plated another run as part of a rally in the seventh. The 32-year-old could be sparking a better stretch at the plate -- he's 6-for-12 with three extra-base hits over his last three games, rebounding from an 0-for-20 skid prior to that. Overall, it's still been an underwhelming campaign for Betts, who is slashing .239/.309/.371 with 12 homers, 51 RBI, 68 runs scored and eight stolen bases through 106 contests.
