Kelly went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Wednesday's 7-2 loss to the Phillies.

After getting a breather Tuesday, Kelly returned Wednesday and delivered his first multi-hit effort since May 24. In 10 games since that last two-hit performance, the catcher had gone just 2-for-30 with six strikeouts. Kelly still has a solid .255 batting average and .868 OPS, thanks to a scintillating start to the season, and he should remain Chicago's clear No. 1 backstop as long as Miguel Amaya (oblique) is sidelined.

Castellanos went 1-for-4 with a triple in Wednesday's 7-2 victory over the Cubs.

It was the first three-bagger of the year for Castellanos, who continues to be a steady presence in the heart of the Phillies' lineup. Over his last 16 outings (61 plate appearances), the veteran slugger is slashing a robust .328/.361/.534 with two homers, four doubles and three RBI. Castellanos has also batted in the cleanup spot in five of Philadelphia's last six games with Bryce Harper (wrist) on the injured list.

Hassell is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Mets.

The Mets are sending lefty David Peterson to the hill, marking the second straight time the left-handed-hitting Hassell is absent from the lineup against a southpaw. Hassell had started against lefties each of the first five times the Nationals faced a lefty following his promotion from Triple-A Rochester on May 21, but Washington has less of a need for him to face same-handed pitching following the recent return of Jacob Young from the injured list.

Ruiz is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus the Mets.

He'll rest for the second game of the series after catching the opener Tuesday. Riley Adams is behind the dish and batting seventh for the Nationals on Wednesday.

Bell is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets.

Andres Chaparro is in the designated hitter spot versus lefty David Peterson and could cut into Bell's playing time against southpaws moving forward. The switch-hitting Bell is just 2-for-39 at the dish versus left-handed pitching this season.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts indicated Wednesday that Casparius could be stretched out as a starting pitcher, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Casparius is starting Wednesday's contest in San Diego, and he won't be used as a traditional opener, according to Roberts. The right-hander hasn't recorded more than five outs or thrown more than 28 pitches in an appearance in nearly three weeks, but he's gone at least three innings in four outings this season and was used primarily as a starter in the minors. The Dodgers are seeking rotation help amidst a slew of injuries, and Roberts feels more comfortable with the idea of moving Casparius into the rotation because the team just got Michael Kopech and Kirby Yates back in the bullpen.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that Freeman is in Wednesday's lineup in San Diego in spite of a quad injury suffered Tuesday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

The injury likely means Freeman will be running at less than 100 percent, but "he's managing it," per Roberts. Freeman has played in every game since April 11 for the Dodgers, starting all but two contests over that span. Unless the injury gets worse, it sounds like Freeman will continue trying to play through it.

Wade is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Dodgers.

Wade had started each of the last three games in left field and went 2-for-7 with a triple and three RBI, but he'll give way to Gavin Sheets while Xander Bogaerts gets a day out of the infield and serves as the Padres' designated hitter. Until Jason Heyward (oblique) returns from the injured list, Wade could serve as the Padres' primary option in left field, at least against right-handed pitching.

Del Castillo (shoulder) was reinstated from Triple-A Reno's 7-day injured list Tuesday and went 2-for-5 with a home run, four RBI and an additional run in a 15-9 loss to Sugar Land.

Del Castillo served as the designated hitter in his season debut for Reno, and he'll likely remain limited to a non-defensive role for at least a few more games while he looks to regain full strength in his throwing shoulder. The young backstop was diagnosed with a strained right shoulder late in spring training and made all 13 of his rehab appearances as a DH once he was cleared to begin an assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on May 20. Del Castillo posted an .893 OPS in 87 plate appearances in the majors a season ago, but he's unlikely to warrant serious consideration for a call-up to Arizona until he's catching again.

Herrera will start at catcher and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Mariners.

Herrera will get his fourth start behind the plate in five games, but his playing time will likely trend down moving forward. Top backstop Gabriel Moreno missed three straight starts due to a hand injury before he returned to the lineup for Tuesday's 10-3 win, going 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in the victory. Moreno will give way to Herrera on Wednesday, but Moreno is merely getting some rest for the day game after a night game.
