  • Brewers' Sal Frelick: Closing in on return

Frelick (shoulder) is slated to begin playing in the outfield at Triple-A Nashville on Friday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Frelick began playing in rehab games at Triple-A last weekend and has gone 3-for-11 with three walks and three runs scored over four games, though he has served exclusively as a designated hitter up to this point. He still has a few tests left to pass as he ramps up his throwing, but he could be cleared to return from the injured list within the next several days if all goes well.

  • Brewers' Sal Frelick: Nearing rehab assignment

Brewers manager Pat Murphy said Friday that Frelick (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment soon, Casey Drottar of MLB.com reports.

Murphy noted that Frelick will likely be limited to designated hitter duty initially on his rehab assignment as he works his way back from a right shoulder strain. Frelick played though shoulder discomfort for much of the season before he finally landed on the 10-day injured list in mid-July. He should return before the end of August if he can avoid a setback.

  • Brewers' Sal Frelick: Resumes hitting, throwing

Frelick (shoulder) began a hitting progression early last week and started a throwing progression Friday, MLB.com reports.

Frelick didn't travel with the Brewers for their West Coast road trip, but he appears to have made some good progress in his recovery from a right shoulder strain while remaining back in Milwaukee. He'll look to increase the intensity and frequency of his activities during the upcoming week and will likely require a brief rehab assignment before returning from the 10-day injured list.

  • Brewers' Sal Frelick: Gets cortisone shot in shoulder

Frelick was given a cortisone shot in his injured right shoulder Wednesday, Dominic Cotroneo of 620 WTMJ reports.

Frelick also had imaging this week, which did not reveal any new injury beyond a shoulder strain. After a period of rest, the outfielder will do strengthening exercises for his shoulder and rotator cuff. There is no timetable for his return, as the Brewers will wait for Frelick's symptoms to subside before he ramps up baseball activities. Andrew Vaughn has been the biggest playing-time beneficiary from Frelick's absence, drawing regular starts at first base while Jake Bauers plays right field, but it's Luis Lara who is getting the start in right field Friday against the Rockies.

  • Brewers' Sal Frelick: Undergoing imaging Tuesday

Frelick will undergo an arthrogram Tuesday to get a diagnosis on his injured right shoulder, Jack Stern of BrewerFanatic.com reports.

Frelick landed on the 10-day injured list this past weekend with what the Brewers described as a shoulder strain, but the club hopes the arthrogram will provide a more specific diagnosis. Once the results of the exam are in, more will be known about a timeline for Frelick to return to the active roster.

  • Brewers' Sal Frelick: On IL with shoulder strain

The Brewers placed Frelick on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a right shoulder strain, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Frelick has been playing through pain in his shoulder for multiple months, per Sophia Minnaert of Brewers.tv, and he made an early exit from Friday's win over the Marlins after aggravating the injury while making a throw from the outfield. He's set to undergo further testing to determine the severity of his injury and help establish a clearer timetable for his return. Blake Perkins was recalled from Triple-A Nashville to replenish the Brewers' outfield depth, though Luis Lara could end up receiving most of reps in right field in Frelick's absence.

  • Brewers' Sal Frelick: Could require IL stint

Manager Pat Murphy said after Friday's win over Miami that he believes Frelick (shoulder) "won't be able to go anytime soon," Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

The Brewers pulled Frelick out of Friday's contest when he reported soreness in his shoulder after making a throw from right field in the fourth inning, and although no decisions have been made just yet, Murphy's comments suggest that the 26-year-old will have to spend some time on the injured list. Frelick will presumably head in for imaging to determine the severity of his injury, at which point a timeline for his return could emerge. In the meantime, Luis Lara figures to receive regular opportunities in the outfield.

  • Brewers' Sal Frelick: Pulled with shoulder soreness

Frelick was removed from Friday's game against the Marlins due to right shoulder soreness, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Frelick went 0-for-1 at the plate before his shoulder forced him out of the game in the fifth inning. The severity of his injury is still unknown, but the Brewers could issue another update on his status in the near future. If his absence extends into Saturday, Luis Lara would be the next man up to start in right field for Milwaukee.
