  • Diamondbacks' LuJames Groover: Exiting starting nine

Groover is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game in Miami.

Groover started each of the previous four games after being called up from Triple-A Reno, going 3-for-15 with one RBI and a 0:3 BB:K. The rookie will take a seat Wednesday while Ildemaro Vargas fills in at first base.

  • Zack Qin RP | SD

Padres' Zack Qin: Back to full health

Single-A Lake Elsinore reinstated Qin (elbow) from the 7-day injured list Thursday and assigned him to the rookie-level Arizona Complex League.

While recovering from Tommy John surgery, Qin missed the entire 2025 season and opened the 2026 campaign on the shelf before being cleared to report to the ACL for a rehab assignment May 7. The 20-year-old lefty is likely to move on to the California League before long, but the Padres elected to keep him in the ACL once his rehab window came to a close earlier this month. Through his first five outings in Arizona, Qin has compiled a 1.15 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 30:3 K:BB in 15.2 innings.

  • Blake Hunt C | SD

Padres' Blake Hunt: Raking at Triple-A since return

Hunt (oblique) has gone 5-for-13 with a home run, a double, a walk, four RBI and three runs in four games for Triple-A El Paso since being reinstated from the 7-day injured list last week.

Hunt opened the season on the IL after tweaking his oblique early in spring training, but he made enough progress to begin a rehab assignment in mid-May. The 27-year-old catcher was cleared to rejoin El Paso after posting a 1.167 OPS over seven games during his rehab stint in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League.

  • Willy Adames SS | SF

Giants' Willy Adames: Rare day off

Adames is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Nationals.

Adames will get just his second day off of the season and first since April after going 0-for-17 with a 1:9 BB:K over his last four contests. Casey Schmitt will fill in at shortstop for the Giants while Adames gets a breather.

  • Padres' Bryce Johnson: Making second straight start

Johnson will start in right field and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Reds.

Johnson will cover right field for the second straight game, after he went 0-for-2 with a stolen base -- his fifth of the season -- while starting in Tuesday's 5-3 loss in 11 innings. The 30-year-old isn't expected to be in line for extended playing time, as he'll likely fade into a reserve role as soon as Miguel Andujar moves past his hamstring injury or Jake Cronenworth (concussion) returns from the 7-day injured list.

  • Padres' Freddy Fermin: Sitting out Wednesday

Fermin is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest against the Reds.

Fermin had a three-game home run streak come to an end with a 0-for-5 showing Tuesday, so he'll get a breather for Wednesday's matinee. Rodolfo Duran will do the catching and bat eighth for the Padres.

  • Ty France 1B | SD

Padres' Ty France: Out of lineup again Wednesday

France is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus the Reds.

After making six consecutive starts, France has now been held out of the lineup two days in a row. He did enter mid-game Tuesday as a pinch hitter and will be available off the bench again. Gavin Sheets is playing first base for San Diego.

  • Padres' Miguel Andujar: Held out again Wednesday

Andujar (hamstring) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds.

Andujar was forced to depart Sunday's game versus the Mets after tweaking his hamstring, and he's now missed all three starts in the Padres' series against the Reds. The Padres have a team off day Thursday and could make a decision on a potential IL stint for Andujar before Friday's contest in Baltimore. Will Wagner is filling in at designated hitter Wednesday.

  • Ivan Herrera DH | STL

Cardinals' Ivan Herrera: Reaches base five times

Herrera went 3-for-3 with a double and three runs scored in Tuesday's win over the Mets.

Herrera was hit by a Freddy Peralta pitch in both of his first two trips to the plate before later adding two singles and a double. The 26-year-old's hard-hit rate, barrel rate and average exit velocity are all down year-over-year. However, Herrera boasts a 12 percent walk rate and a 16.5 percent strikeout rate, and he is on pace to score more than 100 runs.

  • Nationals' Julian Fernandez: Shelved at Triple-A

Triple-A Rochester placed Fernandez on its 7-day injured list May 14 due to an unspecified injury.

The 31-year-old reliever made three appearances for the Nationals back in late April but has otherwise spent the entire season at Rochester, with whom he's turned in a 3.27 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 10:5 K:BB in 11 innings across 13 appearances. Since he hasn't appeared in a game in over a month, Fernandez could require a rehab assignment in the lower minors before returning to the Triple-A bullpen.
