  • Henry Davis C | PIT

Pirates' Henry Davis: Goes on paternity leave

The Pirates placed Davis on the paternity list Wednesday, Colin Beazley of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Davis will be away from the Pirates for 1-to-3 days while he welcomes his first child into the world. Pittsburgh recalled Rafael Flores from Triple-A Indianapolis to provide an additional option at catcher behind Endy Rodriguez while Davis is on paternity leave.

  • Luis Garcia 1B | WAS

Nationals' Luis Garcia: Heading to bench Wednesday

Garcia is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants.

As per usual, the left-handed-hitting Garcia will find himself on the bench as the Giants send a southpaw (Robbie Ray) to the hill. Andres Chaparro will replace Garcia at first base and will bat third.

  • Mets' Jonathan Pintaro: Recalled from Triple-A

The Mets recalled Pintaro from Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday.

Pintaro made two scoreless appearances with the Mets earlier this season and holds a 3.16 ERA and 38:13 K:BB over 31.1 innings with Syracuse. The former starting pitcher is capable of covering multiple innings for the Mets, if needed.

  • Giants' Reiver Sanmartin: Ready for team debut

The Giants reinstated Sanmartin (hip) from the 60-day injured list Wednesday.

A waiver pickup from the Reds back in November, Sanmartin ended up having his Giants debut delayed several months after suffering a significant right hip flexor strain back in spring training. The 30-year-old lefty was cleared to begin a minor-league rehab assignment in mid-May and compiled a 2.79 ERA, 0.72 WHIP and 10:1 K:BB across 9.2 innings over nine appearances between the rookie-level Arizona Complex League and Triple-A Sacramento to convince the Giants he was ready to join the big-league bullpen. He's likely to be deployed in middle relief initially.

  • Joey Gerber RP | NYM

Mets' Joey Gerber: Dispatched to minors

The Mets optioned Gerber to Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday.

Gerber covered two innings in Tuesday's loss to the Cardinals, yielding one run. The Mets are replacing him on the roster with Jonathan Pintaro, who will give the club a fresh bullpen arm.

  • Tristan Beck RP | SF

Giants' Tristan Beck: Sent back to minors

The Giants optioned Beck to Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday.

The right-hander tossed two innings and 27 pitches in relief during Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Nationals, so he might not have been available for Wednesday's series finale. As a result of his recent usage along with the fact that he had a minor-league option remaining, Beck ended up giving his spot in the bullpen and on the active roster to Reiver Sanmartin (hip), who was reinstated from the 60-day injured list.

  • Will Brennan RF | SF

Giants' Will Brennan: Pushed off 40-man roster

The Giants designated Brennan for assignment Wednesday.

Brennan will give up his spot on the 40-man roster to left-hander Reiver Sanmartin (hip), who was reinstated from the 60-day injured list. The 28-year-old Brennan had produced a healthy .869 OPS over 117 plate appearances at Triple-A Sacramento in 2026, but he's had far less success over parts of five major-league seasons between stops with the Guardians and Giants, slashing just .263/.301/.365 (86 wRC+).

  • Reds' Elly De La Cruz: Set for infield work, MRI on tap

Reds manager Terry Francona said Wednesday that De La Cruz (hamstring) is scheduled to take part in infield drills for the second day in a row and will undergo a follow-up MRI on Friday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

If the MRI reveals that De La Cruz has healed from his right hamstring strain as anticipated, he could increase the intensity of his workouts beginning next week. When De La Cruz was first placed on the shelf June 1, Francona indicated that the star shortstop would likely miss around 2-to-4 weeks, and there's little to suggest that his timeline has changed. Matt McLain has taken over as the Reds' primary shortstop since De La Cruz landed on the shelf, which has opened up more work for Edwin Arroyo and Spencer Steer at the keystone.

  • Jared Koenig RP | MIL

Brewers' Jared Koenig: Could return next week

Koenig (elbow) transferred his rehab assignment to Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday and could be activated from the injured list in about a week, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

The left-hander landed on the shelf with an elbow sprain in early April and has allowed one run on six hits with a 2:4 K:BB across 4.2 frames in five rehab appearances. The Brewers will likely look to pitch Koenig on back-to-back days at Nashville before reinstating him from the IL.

  • Willy Adames SS | SF

Giants' Willy Adames: Nursing lower-half injury

Giants manager Tony Vitello said that Adames is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals after experiencing some lower-half pain from his "knee to hip" during Tuesday's 6-3 loss, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Despite dealing with some discomfort, Adames still played the full nine innings Tuesday, finishing 0-for-4 with a walk. The veteran shortstop will hit the bench for just the second time all season Wednesday, but Vitello indicated that Adames shouldn't be headed for any further absences. The Giants are hoping that getting a game off from starting coupled with Thursday's off day will provide enough time for Adames to recover from the issue and rejoin the lineup Friday versus the Cubs.
