  • Yu Darvish SP | SD

Padres' Yu Darvish: Another simulated game on tap

Darvish (elbow) will throw another simulated game Tuesday, Sammy Levitt of 97.3 The Fan reports.

Darvish threw 51 pitches in a simulated game last Wednesday and should increase that pitch count during Tuesday's session. The veteran right-hander could be ready for a rehab start after that, though the Padres haven't tipped their hand regarding Darvish's next step. Darvish has been sidelined all season with right elbow inflammation, but he's pushing to return from the 60-day injured list before the All-Star break.

  • Hunter Greene SP | CIN

Reds' Hunter Greene: Throwing bullpen session Wednesday

Greene (groin/back) is scheduled to throw a live bullpen session Wednesday, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.

Greene will throw again this weekend, and if all goes well, he should begin a rehab assignment sometime next week. The right-hander has been sidelined for the bulk of June due to a groin strain and back soreness. If Greene progresses as hoped, he could be ready to rejoin the Cincinnati rotation around mid-July.

  • Padres' Jose Iglesias: Heading to bench Monday

Iglesias is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies.

With starts in five of the previous six games, Iglesias has gained some stability in the San Diego lineup of late, but he's still not quite locked in as an everyday player. After posting a surprising .829 OPS with the Mets in 2024 -- his highest mark in any season of his career aside from the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign -- Iglesias has taken a big step back at the plate with San Diego this season, slashing just .226/.294/.258 with no home runs over 179 plate appearances. He'll need to improve his production to boost his case for earning steady playing time over the balance of the season.

  • Jared Triolo SS | PIT

Pirates' Jared Triolo: Back on bench Monday

Triolo is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cardinals.

Triolo was included in the lineup in three of the Pirates' previous four games, but the bulk of his starts are still expected to come against left-handed pitching when Pittsburgh has all of its core infielders available. Most of the 27-year-old's value to the Pirates derives from his ability to play all four infield spots, as he's been an easy out at the plate with a .167/.260/.280 slash line over 152 plate appearances on the season.

  • Joe La Sorsa RP | BOS

Reds' Joe La Sorsa: Rejoins big-league bullpen

The Reds recalled La Sorsa from Triple-A Louisville on Monday.

He's absorbing the roster spot vacated by Ian Gibaut (shoulder), who has landed on the 15-day injured list. La Sorsa has made two appearances for the Reds this season, getting dinged for four runs.

  • Ian Gibaut RP | CIN

Reds' Ian Gibaut: Back to IL with shoulder injury

The Reds placed Gibaut on the 15-day injured list Monday with a right shoulder impingement.

The same injury cost Gibaut nearly a month of action earlier this season. A timeline for Gibaut's return from the IL this time around isn't yet clear, but he'll be eligible for activation immediately after the All-Star break.

  • Adam Frazier 2B | LAA

Pirates' Adam Frazier: Idle against righty

Frazier is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cardinals.

The left-handed-hitting Frazier had batted out of the leadoff spot in both of the Pirates' previous two matchups with righties, but he'll be left out of the lineup entirely Monday while St. Louis sends right-hander Erick Fedde to the hill. Tommy Pham will take over Frazier's spot in left field, while Spencer Horwitz tops the batting order for Pittsburgh.

  • Otto Kemp LF | PHI

Phillies' Otto Kemp: Odd man out in Harper's return

Kemp is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Padres, Lochlahn March of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Since being called up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on June 7, Kemp had started in all but one of the Phillies' ensuing 20 games, but he'll likely find himself on the bench against right-handed pitching more frequently after Philadelphia reinstated Bryce Harper (wrist) from the injured list Monday. The right-handed-hitting Kemp should continue to see regular playing time against left-handed pitching, likely occupying the short side of a platoon in left field with the left-handed-hitting Max Kepler.

  • Padres' Logan Gillaspie: Activated and DFA'd

The Padres activated Gillaspie (oblique) from the 15-day injured list and designated him for assignment Monday.

Gillaspie is over the left oblique strain that sent him to the IL over two months ago, but the Padres decided they don't have room for him on their active roster. The 28-year-old has a career 4.63 ERA and underwhelming 29:12 K:BB in 44.2 innings covering parts of four major-league seasons, so he stands a good chance of clearing waivers.

  • Buddy Kennedy 3B | SEA

Phillies' Buddy Kennedy: Removed from 40-man roster

The Phillies designated Buddy Kennedy for assignment Monday.

The transaction clears a spot on the active roster for Bryce Harper's (wrist) return from the 10-day injured list. Kennedy went hitless in seven at-bats for the Phillies and hadn't started a game in nearly a week.
