  • Max Lazar RP | PHI

Phillies' Max Lazar: Mostly handling low-leverage work

Lazar allowed one hit and no walks with no strikeouts in a scoreless ninth inning in Sunday's 8-2 loss to the Angels.

Lazar has been called upon almost strictly in low-leverage situations for most of the season -- he has zero holds and one save -- but he's been a viable bullpen arm for the Phillies. Across 21.2 innings, the 26-year-old right-hander owns a 3.32 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 14:8 K:BB. Philadelphia signed veteran right-hander David Robertson on Sunday, which could mean Lazar will soon be even more hard-pressed to find high-leverage work.

  • Diamondbacks' Geraldo Perdomo: Contributes to early rally

Perdomo went 1-for-4 with an RBI, a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 5-3 win over St. Louis.

Perdomo reached on a fielder's choice that plated the game's first run. He then stole a base before trotting in on Eugenio Suarez's three-run home run. Perdomo is rolling this month and entered the game with a .327/.464/.455 slash line and 13 RBI over the previous 15 games. He's up to a career-high 72 RBI (tied for ninth in MLB) through 99 games, and he's one theft shy of his career-high 16 steals set across 144 games in 2023.

  • Ryne Stanek RP | STL

Mets' Ryne Stanek: Earns second save

Stanek allowed a hit in a scoreless inning and picked up a save against the Reds on Sunday.

Stanek worked around a one-out single to close out the 3-2 victory for his second save of the year. His other save came against Miami on April 7. He dropped his ERA to 4.28 with a 37:18 K:BB through 33.2 frames. Edwin Diaz was charged with a blown save after entering in the eighth inning Sunday.

  • Esteury Ruiz RF | MIA

Dodgers' Esteury Ruiz: Cracks first homer

Ruiz went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Sunday's 6-5 loss to the Brewers.

The 26-year-old drew the start in left field and slugged his first long ball since April 17, 2024, when with the Athletics, with a 413-foot blast off Milwaukee starter Jose Quintana in the fifth. Ruiz was promoted from Triple-A Oklahoma City on July 3 after slashing .292/.394/.458 with eight homers and 38 stolen bases across 300 plate appearances. The Los Angeles outfielder has been used strictly in a short-side platoon role in the big leagues, posting a .250 (4-for-16) average with six strikeouts in 12 games since his promotion.

  • Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw: Tallies two Ks in no-decision

Kershaw allowed three runs (one earned) on five hits and one walk over 4.1 innings in a no-decision Sunday against Milwaukee. He struck out two.

Despite generating a solid 10 whiffs in this 81-pitch performance, the veteran southpaw snapped a stretch of six straight starts with three or more punchouts. Kershaw, who averaged just 88.7 mph on his fastball, didn't have his best stuff but still managed to limit the Brewers lineup, as he didn't allow any extra-base hits. The 37-year-old now owns a 3.27 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 37:16 K:BB across 55 total frames. He currently lines up to make his next start at Boston next weekend.

  • Janson Junk SP | MIA

Marlins' Janson Junk: Knocked around in loss

Junk (4-2) yielded six runs (five earned) on six hits and a walk over five innings Sunday, striking out one and taking a loss against Kansas City.

Junk worked through three shutout innings before his outing went south. He was tagged with three runs in each of the fourth and fifth frames before exiting the contest. He had given up three runs (two earned) over 19 innings in his previous three appearances. Junk threw 47 of 69 pitches for strikes but generated only three whiffs. He now owns a 3.25 ERA with a 39:5 K:BB through 55.1 innings. Junk is lined up to start in Milwaukee next weekend.

  • Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Avoids major injury

Freeman suffered a left wrist contusion and underwent X-rays, which came back negative, following Sunday's 6-5 loss to the Brewers, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Freeman left Sunday's series finale in the bottom of the six inning after being hit in the left wrist by a sinker from Jose Quintana. The 35-year-old appears to have avoided a major injury, and manager Dave Roberts described Freeman to be in the "day-to-day category" after the contest. The Dodgers will begin a three-game set with the Twins at home Monday, and Freeman's status will be worth monitoring.

  • Abner Uribe RP | MIL

Brewers' Abner Uribe: Notches rare save

Uribe earned the save in Sunday's 6-5 win against the Dodgers, allowing one run on three hits and one walk in one inning with no strikeouts.

The flamethrowing right-hander held on to lock down the win despite conceding three singles in this 23-pitch performance against the vaunted Los Angeles lineup. Because Trevor Megill pitched consecutive days Friday and Saturday, Uribe was afforded the opportunity to pick up his second save of the season. This outing shows that if anything were to happen to Megill, Uribe, who has pitched to a 2.42 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 60:19 K:BB across 48.1 total innings, would be the favorite to take over the closer role in Milwaukee.

  • Jose Quintana SP | COL

Brewers' Jose Quintana: Survives for seventh win

Quintana (7-3) allowed four runs on four hits and no walks over six innings and picked up the win Sunday against the Dodgers. He struck out five.

The veteran southpaw worked around two long balls -- a two-run Shohei Ohtani homer in the third and an Esteury Ruiz solo blast in the fifth -- in this 83-pitch performance to tally his 109th career victory. Since returning from a shoulder injury June 1, Quintana has produced a 4.15 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 29:20 K:BB across 43.1 innings. In 77.1 total innings, the 36-year-old sports a 3.49 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 53:31 K:BB. Quintana is currently scheduled to make his next turn in the rotation against the Marlins at home next weekend.

  • Eugenio Suarez DH | CIN

Diamondbacks' Eugenio Suarez: Caps series with two more homers

Saurez went 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI in Sunday's 5-3 win versus St. Louis.

The Arizona third baseman extended his team's lead to 4-0 with a 425-foot, three-run blast off Cardinals starter Miles Mikolas in the first inning. Suarez then returned in the third to slug a solo shot off Mikolas to reach the 35-homer mark for the second time in his career (the first time coming in 2019 with Cincinnati, when he totaled 49). This performance wrapped up a fantastic three-game weekend for the 34-year-old, as he went 5-for-10 with four long balls, seven RBI and five runs scored. Through 403 total plate appearances across 98 games, Suarez is slashing .257/.328/.601 with 85 RBI and 63 runs scored.
