  • Braves' Drake Baldwin: Belts 15th homer

Baldwin went 2-for-4 with a grand slam and a second run scored in Sunday's loss to the Mets. Eleven of the game's 19 runs were scored in the ninth inning, and Baldwin had the biggest blow in the frame when he launched his 15th homer of the season, and first career grand slam, off Huascar Brazoban. The blast snapped a 15-game power drought in which Baldwin had gone just 4-for-58 (.069) with zero extra-base hits or RBI while striking out 21 times, following his mid-June return from an oblique strain.

  • Braves' Drake Baldwin: Serving as DH

Baldwin is batting fifth as the designated hitter Sunday against the Giants. It's the 10th start in 11 games since Baldwin returned from the injured list in mid-June. The 25-year-old homered in his first game back from the oblique strain but overall has struggled, going 2-for-39 with a walk and 20 strikeouts. That poor stretch has lowered his OPS for the season from .931 to .813 through 58 contests.

  • Braves' Drake Baldwin: Getting breather Wednesday

Baldwin isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game against San Diego. The lefty-hitting Baldwin doesn't typically retreat to the bench whenever Atlanta runs into a left-handed starter, but after going 0-for-20 with 13 strikeouts over his last five games, he'll step out of the lineup with southpaw JP Sears on the mound for the Padres. Joey Bart will start behind the plate and bat seventh while Baldwin sits.

  • Braves' Drake Baldwin: Goes yard in return

Baldwin went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in a loss to the Giants during the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader. The first-inning long ball off Adrian Houser was hit Tuesday, but the game wasn't actually completed until Wednesday due to inclement weather. Baldwin started at catcher in the contest, then went 1-for-5 with a run scored as the DH in the nightcap --although he did strike out in five of his plate appearances during the twin bill as he works to regain his timing after missing four weeks due to an oblique strain. Through 50 games this season, Baldwin's slashing .298/.381/.540 with 14 homers, 39 RBI and 41 runs.

  • Braves' Drake Baldwin: Starting rehab assignment

Baldwin (oblique) will report to Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday to begin a rehab assignment, Barrett Sallee of 680 The Fan Atlanta reports. The 25-year-old catcher was able to progress to taking live batting practice this week and has now been cleared for game action after recovering from the oblique strain that sent him to the injured list in mid-May. Assuming all goes well with Gwinnett, Baldwin could be back in Atlanta for the start of the team's next homestand, which begins Tuesday versus the Giants.

  • Braves' Drake Baldwin: Closing in on rehab assignment

Baldwin (oblique) is slated to take live batting practice Thursday and Friday and could be cleared to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Gwinnett over the weekend, 680 The Fan Atlanta reports. Baldwin still has a couple more boxes to check in his recovery from a Grade 1 right oblique strain, but Atlanta still appears to be earmarking him for a return from the 10-day injured list for the start of their six-game homestand, which begins next Tuesday. Assuming all goes well during his upcoming pair of live BP sessions, Baldwin will likely catch at least one game with Gwinnett over the weekend to prove that the oblique strain is behind him. The reigning National League Rookie of the Year had gotten off to a hot start to his sophomore campaign before getting hurt, slashing .303/.389/.543 with 13 home runs, one stolen base, 38 RBI and 39 runs over 48 games.

  • Braves' Drake Baldwin: Lands on IL with oblique strain

Atlanta placed Baldwin on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a right oblique strain. Baldwin evidently suffered the injury during Monday's loss to the Marlins. It's unclear what the severity of the strain is, but oblique injuries often result in a longer-than-minimum stay on the IL. With Sean Murphy (finger) also sidelined, Atlanta will use Sandy Leon and Chadwick Tromp as its catching duo.

  • Braves' Drake Baldwin: Reaches 10-homer mark

Baldwin went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 7-2 win over the Dodgers. This was Baldwin's 10th homer of the season, three of which have come in May. He's batting .257 (9-for-35) this month, and he's added a 6:11 BB:K over that nine-game sample. Baldwin has cooled off a bit after starting the season at a blistering pace, but he's still providing high-quality performances for a catcher. Overall, he's batting .297 with an .892 OPS, 32 RBI, 35 runs scored and a stolen base across 41 contests. Baldwin could see more time behind the dish if Sean Murphy (finger) misses time after exiting Sunday's game early.

Baldwin went 1-for-4 with a walk and a solo home run in Monday's loss to the Mariners. The slugging catcher led off the game with his ninth homer of the season, as he launched a Logan Gilbert slider 426 feet to right-center field. It was Baldwin's first start as the leadoff hitter for Atlanta, but it likely won't be his last as the team looks to replace Ronald Acuna (hamstring) in the short term. Over the last 20 games, Baldwin is slashing a sizzling .321/.409/.506 with four long balls, 13 RBI and 18 runs.
