Martin Maldonado C | SD
Padres' Martin Maldonado: Sitting third straight
Maldonado isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mets.
Maldonado will retreat to the bench for the third straight game Tuesday while Elias Diaz starts behind the dish. Neither backstop has been particularly productive at the plate this season, though the Padres may be starting to favor using Diaz as their primary catcher.

Mets' Huascar Brazoban: Demoted to Triple-A
The Mets optioned Brazoban to Triple-A Syracuse following Monday night's game.
Brazoban came on in relief of Frankie Montas during the fifth inning of Monday's game against the Padres, inheriting runners on second and third with one out and a 5-3 lead. While he eventually recorded the last two outs of the inning, Brazoban allowed three hits and a walk, which led to the Padres taking the lead with their sixth run of the game. In a corresponding move, the Mets re-signed Chris Devenski to the active roster Tuesday.

Stephen Kolek SP | KC
Padres' Stephen Kolek: Sent down to El Paso
The Padres optioned Kolek to Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday.
Kolek will lose his place in San Diego's rotation in favor of Ryan Bergert, who was recalled to start Tuesday's game against the Mets. Kolek has surrendered five earned runs in 11.2 innings across two starts since the All-Star break, but he figures to have a good chance to make another start for the Padres before the end of the season.

Mets' Chris Devenski: Re-signed by Mets
The Mets signed Devenski to a one-year major-league contract Tuesday.

Padres' Ryan Bergert: Promoted for start
The Padres recalled Bergert from Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday.
Bergert has made 10 appearances (six starts) for the Padres this season, posting a 2.84 ERA and 1.14 WHIP to go with a 30:14 K:BB over 31.2 frames. The 25-year-old will make his seventh start of the season Tuesday against a Mets offense that owns a .713 OPS since the All-Star break, and he'll replace Stephen Kolek in the Friars' rotation.

Tanner Scott RP | LAD
Dodgers' Tanner Scott: Resumes throwing
Manager Dave Roberts said Tuesday that Scott (elbow) has begun a throwing progression, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
Scott still has several hurdles to clear before he can come off the injured list, but his return to throwing is a positive sign nonetheless. The 31-year-old reliever landed on the IL last Tuesday with elbow inflammation and remains without a clear return timeline, though he's still expected back in the Dodgers' bullpen before the end of the year.

Josue De Paula CF | LAD
Dodgers' Josue De Paula: Lands on IL at High-A
High-A Great Lakes placed De Paula on its 7-day injured list Saturday due to an unspecified injury.
De Paula hadn't played since Wednesday before Great Lakes deactivated him three days later. The 19-year-old has emerged as one of the more exciting lower-level prospects in baseball this season, as he's displayed an impressive blend of power (21 extra-base hits), speed (27-for-33 on steal attempts) and on-base skills (19 percent walk rate) over 82 games for Great Lakes in addition to taking home All-Star Futures Game MVP honors earlier this month. The Dodgers haven't provided a timeline for his return to action.
