Nolan Gorman 3B | STL
Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Reinstated from injured list
The Cardinals reinstated Gorman (back) from the injured list Friday.
Gorman landed on the injured list July 19 with pain in his lower back, but he's been given the green light to return to St. Louis after going 3-for-13 with a homer during his rehab assignment in Double-A. With Nolan Arenado (shoulder) moving to the IL in a corresponding move, Gorman figures to step in as the Cardinals' third baseman for the short-term future.

Pedro Pages C | STL
Cardinals' Pedro Pages: Not starting Friday
Pages is not in the Cardinals' starting lineup against the Padres on Friday.
Pages has struggled at the plate in his eight appearances since the All-Star break, going 4-for-28 (.143) with two RBI over that span. He'll be on the bench for a second straight game, and he may be losing out on the starting job to Yohel Pozo, who will start behind home plate and bat eighth in Friday's bout.

Grant McCray CF | SF
Giants' Grant McCray: Called up by San Francisco
The Giants recalled McCray from Triple-A Sacramento on Friday.
McCray has spent the entire 2025 season in Triple-A, where he is slashing .260/.338/.429 with 26 steals, five triples, 14 home runs and 63 RBI in 468 plate appearances. He appeared in 37 regular-season games for the Giants in 2024 and finished with a .617 OPS with five steals, five homers and 10 RBI in 130 plate appearances. McCray should see some starts in the outfield after the Giants traded Mike Yastrzemski to the Royals on Thursday and with Jerar Encarnacion (oblique) still on the 10-day IL.

Kai-Wei Teng RP | HOU
Giants' Kai-Wei Teng: Headed to majors
The Giants selected Teng's contract from Triple-A Sacramento on Friday.
Teng has appeared in 25 games (four starts) at Triple-A this season and has posted a 3.67 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 86:21 K:BB across 54 innings. Though he's mostly worked in relief at Sacramento, four of his last five outings have come as a starter, with Teng covering five-plus innings in three of those appearances. With Landen Roupp (elbow) on the 15-day injured list, Teng could be a candidate to enter the Giants rotation as soon as Saturday against the Mets.

Brandon Lockridge OF | MIL
Brewers' Brandon Lockridge: Activated for Friday's contest
The Brewers activated Lockridge ahead of Friday's series opener in Washington.
Lockridge had been playing at Triple-A El Paso prior to being traded to the Brewers on Thursday, but rather than reporting to Milwaukee's top affiliate, he'll begin his time in his new organization with the big club after Jackson Chourio (hamstring) was placed on the injured list in a corresponding move. Blake Perkins will likely serve as the primary replacement in center field for Chourio, but the right-handed-hitting Lockridge could become a regular in the Milwaukee lineup against left-handed pitching. With southpaw Mitchell Parker on the bump for Washington on Friday, Lockridge will occupy right field and bat leadoff in his Brewers debut.

Ryan Borucki RP | SF
Pirates' Ryan Borucki: Reinstated from IL
The Pirates reinstated Borucki (back) from the 15-day injured list Friday.
Borucki landed on the IL in mid-June due to a lower-back injury. He was cleared to resume throwing in early July, and in seven rehab outings he allowed one run on two hits and four walks while striking out 10 across 7.1 innings. Borucki posted a 5.26 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, three saves and a 22:11 K:BB across 25.2 innings prior to his injury.

Jared Triolo SS | PIT
Pirates' Jared Triolo: Officially promoted
The Pirates recalled Triolo from Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday.
Triolo is expected to take over as the primary third baseman in Pittsburgh now that Ke'Bryan Hayes is on the Reds. Triolo has slashed just .158/.253/.266 with 10 RBI and 12 runs scored through 160 plate appearances this season, but his glove should be enough to keep him in the lineup most days.

Kyle Nicolas RP | BAL
Pirates' Kyle Nicolas: Back in majors
The Pirates recalled Nicolas from Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday.
Nicolas will rejoin the Pirates' bullpen after the team shipped Taylor Rogers and David Bednar elsewhere prior to Thursday's trade deadline. Nicolas has coughed up 10 earned runs over 12 innings in the majors and will likely work in low-leverage spots while in Pittsburgh.

Thomas Harrington P | PIT
Pirates' Thomas Harrington: Joining Pirates
The Pirates recalled Harrington from Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday.
Harrington has surrendered nine earned runs in only eight MLB innings this season, and he carries a 5.48 ERA through 90.1 frames in Triple-A. Despite his performance, he'll be awarded a spot on the Pirates' pitching staff after Pittsburgh traded away David Bednar, Bailey Falter and Taylor Rogers on Thursday.

Tyler Wade SS | TEX
Padres' Tyler Wade: DFA'd by Padres
The Padres designated Wade for assignment Friday.
Wade will lose his spots on the 26-man and 40-man rosters to help make room for the numerous additions San Diego made before Thursday's trade deadline. The 30-year-old utility man has slashed .206/.309/.252 through 127 plate appearances in the big leagues this season.
