  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Rain leads to early exit

Leahy didn't factor into the decision Friday against Atlanta after allowing one hit over three scoreless innings. He struck out two and did not issue a walk. Leahy was hardly dominant as he tallied just one swinging strike on 44 pitches, but he kept Atlanta off the board by inducing five groundouts before a long rain delay ended his evening. The 30-year-old saw his two-start win streak come to an end Friday thanks to the rain, but he continued his strong run of form with just one run allowed in his past four starts. Leahy will head into the All-Star break with a 3.73 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 75:33 K:BB through 89.1 innings, which is now the largest workload of his big-league career after operating as a reliever the past few years.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Dazzles in seventh win

Leahy (7-4) notched the win Saturday against the Cubs, allowing no runs on three hits and two walks in five innings. He struck out six. Leahy was magnificent Saturday, scattering three singles across five shutout frames. It was somewhat surprising to the 29-year-old right-hander get pulled after just 77 pitches given how well he was performing, but it's worth noting he's crossed the 90-pitch marker just four times in 117 stars for the year. Leahy will aim to further improve on a 3.86 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 73:33 K:BB over 86.1 innings against the division-rival Brewers in his next scheduled outing.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Flexible innings cap this season

The Cardinals have a flexible cap on Leahy's innings this season as he transitions from reliever to starter, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. The team will alter their rotation coming out of the All-Star break in order to bake in extra rest for Leahy. Additional measures will be taken during the second half to manage the righty's workload, though what exactly that will look like hasn't been decided upon. Leahy has logged 81.1 innings this season, which is just 6.2 frames shy of last year's total. The 29-year-old accumulated 144.2 innings in 2022, which was the last year he was used as a full-time starting pitcher, so the curtailing of his workload shouldn't be too dramatic. Leahy's next start is scheduled to come Saturday at Wrigley Field.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Credited with sixth win

Leahy (6-4) earned the win Sunday, allowing one run on two hits and three walks over five innings against the Marlins. He struck out five. After lasting at least six innings in each of his previous two starts, Leahy was lifted after five innings and 87 pitches (57 strikes), though he was effective enough and received enough support from the bullpen to earn his first win since May 16. The 29-year-old will finish June with a 3.76 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 21:9 K:BB across 26.1 innings (five starts) during the month. Leahy will take a 4.09 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 67:31 K:BB across 81.1 innings (16 starts) into his next outing, tentatively scheduled for Saturday against the Cubs.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Goes 6.1 scoreless frames Tuesday

Leahy allowed three hits and issued two walks while striking out three batters over 6.1 scoreless innings in a no-decision against Arizona on Tuesday. Leahy and Eduardo Rodriguez locked into a pitchers' duel for most of the contest, as each hurler pitched into the seventh frame without giving up any runs. It wasn't an overpowering performance by Leahy -- he collected just seven whiffs and three punchouts -- but it was by most measures his best outing of the campaign. The right-hander completed six innings just once across his first 13 appearances of the season, but he's now done so in both of his past two starts. Leahy will look to keep up the positive momentum his next time out, which is lined up to be a clash at home against Miami.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Posts quality start in loss

Leahy (5-4) took the loss against the Padres on Wednesday, allowing three runs on seven hits and one walk with seven strikeouts over six innings. Leahy allowed a run in three separate innings but pitched well overall, throwing 57 of 81 pitches for strikes while generating an impressive 11 whiffs. It also matched a season-high workload for the 29-year-old, who tossed six frames in his only other quality start May 16. He owns a 4.63 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 59:26 K:BB across 70 innings this season and lines up for a home matchup against the Diamondbacks next week.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Doesn't make it through fifth frame

Leahy allowed one run on six hits and no walks while striking out four batters over 4.1 innings in a no-decision against the Cubs on Saturday. Leahy looked good through four innings, giving up just four hits and no runs. However, he began the fifth by surrendering a run on two hits through three batters and was then removed for a reliever. Leahy needed 78 pitches cover his 4.1 frames, so he probably wasn't going to go much deeper even without the quick hook. The right-hander entered Saturday having gone exactly five or 5.1 innings in eight of his 10 starts, and he's completed six innings just once on the season. Leahy does have a favorable 5-3 record, but his 4.25 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 48:22 K:BB over 55 innings aren't inspiring.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Stingy in fifth win

Leahy (5-3) picked up the win in Saturday's 4-2 victory over the Royals, allowing one run on five hits and three walks over six innings. He struck out two. The right-hander completed six innings for the first time this season, collecting his first quality start on 90 pitches (59 strikes). Leahy has benefitted from some solid offensive support in 2026, with the Cardinals averaging 4.6 runs in his nine starts to help offset his 3.94 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 34:20 K:BB through 45.2 innings. He'll look to win his fourth straight decision in his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come on the road next weekend in Cincinnati.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Sunk by Marlins

Leahy (2-3) took the loss Wednesday, giving up four runs on eight hits and three walks over five innings as the Cardinals fell 4-1 to the Marlins. He struck out two. All eight hits off the right-hander were singles as Miami batters played small ball, but Leahy also helped create some of his own problems as he walked home a run in the second inning. He exited the mound after 89 pitches (50 strikes) and has failed to finish six frames in his first five starts of the year. Leahy will take a 5.63 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 15:11 K:BB through 24 innings into his next start, which lines up to come on the road early next week in Pittsburgh.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Hit hard in loss

Leahy (0-1) took the loss Monday against the Mets, allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out one over five innings. Making just his second MLB start, Leahy immediately found himself in trouble, giving up a leadoff triple to Francisco Lindor who eventually came around to score. The right-hander struggled to limit traffic all day, allowing at least one hit in every inning he pitched. While Leahy was able to work into the sixth frame throwing 79 pitches, the constant contact led to dangerous situations throughout the outing and four runs crossing the plate. After starting the final game of 2025, the 28-year-old is now adjusting to a rotation role and will look to find more consistency in his next outing against Detroit.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Makes Opening Day rotation

Leahy will open the season in the Cardinals' rotation, Daniel Guerrero of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Leahy's regular-season debut will occur March 30 with a start at home against the Mets. The right-hander has not been used as a starting pitcher regularly since 2022, but he often worked multiple innings out of the Cardinals' bullpen last season and was stretched out as a starter this spring, finishing with a 4.58 ERA and 20:5 K:BB over 17.2 frames. Leahy has not reached 90 innings in any of the last three seasons while being used in the bullpen, so he's sure to face some form of workload restrictions in 2026.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Covers three innings

Leahy allowed a hit and struck out one without walking a batter over three scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the Cubs on Sunday. Leahy started the bullpen game and had the most innings pitched of the five pitchers the Cardinals used in their season finale. This was a fine first career start, and the right-hander ended the season on a seven-inning scoreless streak. Overall, he pitched to a 3.07 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 80:28 K:BB across 88 innings across 62 appearances, adding a 4-2 record, one save, 18 holds and four blown saves as a multi-inning reliever. He could be a contender for the rotation in 2026, but Leahy hasn't regularly worked as a starter since 2022.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Could start final game of season

Leahy is an option to start the final game of the season Sunday against the Cubs, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. It would be a sneak peek at Leahy as a starting pitcher as the Cardinals consider moving him into the rotation next season. All 97 of Leahy's appearances at the big-league level to this point have come in relief, though he has often gone multiple innings in his outings this season. The righty might be capable of covering 3-to-4 innings Sunday, but it would essentially be a bullpen game for the Cardinals.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Tagged with blown save, loss

Leahy (4-2) allowed two runs (one earned) over 1.1 innings, taking a blown save and a loss Saturday in Milwaukee. Leahy was put into an impossible situation in the bottom of the ninth, taking over for an ineffective Riley O'Brien with runners on the corners, no one out and the Cardinals nursing a one-run lead. He did well to give up just one run that frame to send the game to the 10th. Leahy remained in the game after the Cardinals scored one in the top of the 10th, and he coughed up the tying and winning runs to get saddled with a loss. The 28-year-old Leahy will likely remain in the mix for high-leverage appearances for the Cardinals, though he is often used earlier in games for multiple innings.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Struggling of late

Leahy has posted a 6.52 ERA and 6:5 K:BB over 9.2 innings covering his last nine appearances. Leahy still holds a 2.48 ERA for the season thanks to his great start, but a 3.73 FIP and 27:12 K:BB across 36.1 innings paint a less flattering picture. The 28-year-old collected 12 holds through his first 23 appearances but has zero across his last six outings.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Works way into high-leverage spots

Leahy is set to see more high-leverage relief appearances for the Cardinals, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. Leahy is off to an excellent start, having allowed just one run and one hit with a 10:3 K:BB over 7.2 innings. He looks to have leapfrogged Ryan Fernandez -- who has a 10.80 ERA -- in the pecking order among righty relievers for St. Louis, at least for the time being. While he's unlikely to garner any save chances, Leahy could be worth a look in leagues that count holds.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Optioned to Memphis

The Cardinals optioned Leahy to Triple-A Memphis on Saturday. Leahy has turned in a 4.30 ERA and 0.95 WHIP over 14.2 innings since being recalled from the minors in late-July, though he'll now be sent back to Triple-A after giving up three runs over 1.1 frames during Friday's loss. Chris Roycroft was recalled from Memphis in a corresponding move.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Recalled by St. Louis

The Cardinals recalled Leahy from Triple-A Memphis on Sunday. The move corresponds with the Cardinals designating right-hander Giovanny Gallegos for assignment. Leahy's last major-league outing was July 21 against Atlanta, when he pitched two scoreless innings and notched his first major-league save. Across 19 major-league outings this season, Leahy has a 3.90 ERA and 1.05 WHIP across 32.1 innings.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Heading back to Memphis

The Cardinals optioned Leahy to Triple-A Memphis on Sunday. Leahy served as the 27th man for Saturday's doubleheader with the Atlanta and was called upon out of the bullpen in the second game. He delivered two scoreless innings to finish out the Cardinals' 9-5 win, notching his first MLB save in the process. Though he'll head back to Triple-A, Leahy should rank near the top of the list for a call-up the next time the Cardinals are in need of an extra relief arm.

  • Cardinals' Kyle Leahy: Sent back to minors

The Cardinals returned Leahy to Triple-A Memphis on Sunday. Leahy will head back to Memphis after he was summoned from the Triple-A club on Saturday to serve as the Cardinals' 27th man for a doubleheader with the Cubs. He was called upon in relief in the Cardinals' 11-3 win in the first game of the twin bill, striking out two while allowing one earned run on two hits and no walks over two innings.
