Dodgers' Roki Sasaki: Throws three sim innings Friday

Sasaki (shoulder) tossed three simulated innings against hitters Friday at Dodger Stadium, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

Sasaki hurled 46 pitches in the session and touched 97 mph with his fastball, per Plunkett. The latter number is particularly promising, as the rookie right-hander is now right around the velocity he displayed prior to going on the injured list in mid-May. According to Sonja Chen of MLB.com, Sasaki could next begin a minor-league rehab assignment if he comes out of Friday's session without any issues, though it's also possible he could be asked to throw another live bullpen. Chen also relays that manager Dave Roberts indicated the team wants to see Sasaki be more confident in his delivery.

  • Will Smith C | LAD

Dodgers' Will Smith: Getting rest Saturday

Smith isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Blue Jays.

Smith will watch the beginning of Saturday's contest from the dugout after going 0-for-10 with two walks and an RBI over his last three games. Dalton Rushing will catch instead for starter Blake Snell and bat ninth.

  • Cardinals' Brendan Donovan: Scratched with groin tightness

Donovan was scratched from the lineup ahead of Saturday's game against the Cubs with left groin tightness, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

The Cardinals are calling Donovan's removal from the lineup precautionary, so while he won't be able to play Saturday, it doesn't seem like he's dealing with a severe issue. Thomas Saggese will enter the lineup to replace Donovan at second base and bat ninth.

  • Adael Amador SS | COL

Rockies' Adael Amador: On bench Saturday

Amador isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Diamondbacks.

After starting both of Colorado's games since being promoted Wednesday and going 0-for-5, Amador will step out of the starting nine Saturday while Kyle Farmer starts at second base and bats ninth.

  • Troy Johnston RF | COL

Marlins' Troy Johnston: On bench for nightcap

Johnston isn't in the lineup for the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against Atlanta.

Johnston will get a chance to catch his breath after going 1-for-3 with a strikeout during a loss in Game 1. While he rests, Eric Wagaman will get the nod at first base, and Jakob Marsee, Derek Hill and Heriberto Hernandez will work in the outfield.

  • Liam Hicks C | MIA

Marlins' Liam Hicks: Resting during Game 2

Hicks isn't in the lineup for the second game of Saturday's doubleheader versus Atlanta.

After going 1-for-4 with a strikeout during a loss to begin the day, Hicks will retreat to the bench for Saturday's final game. Agustin Ramirez will work as Miami's catcher, and Eric Wagaman will pick up a start at first base.

  • Pirates' Isiah Kiner-Falefa: Getting rest Saturday

Kiner-Falefa isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Reds.

Kiner-Falefa will get a day to reset after going 3-for-17 with an RBI and three runs scored across Pittsburgh's last five contests. His absence will move Jared Triolo to third base, allowing Liover Peguero to start at shortstop.

  • Henry Davis C | PIT

    Pirates' Henry Davis: Idle Saturday

Davis isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Reds.

Davis will take a seat on the bench Saturday after going 2-for-7 with a two-run homer through the first two games of the series. Joey Bart will take his place behind the dish and bat seventh for the Pirates.

  • Eli White LF | ATL

Braves' Eli White: Not starting Game 2

White isn't in the lineup for the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Marlins.

White went 0-for-3 with a sacrifice fly en route to a 7-1 victory over Miami in the afternoon game, and he'll get a chance to rest his legs during the nightcap. His absence will put Vidal Brujan in right field and seventh in the batting order.

  • Braves' Nacho Alvarez: Idle for nightcap

Alvarez isn't in the lineup for the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against Miami.

After striking out in all four of his trips to the plate during Game 1, Alvarez will remain on the bench for the final half of Saturday's festivities. Luke Williams will get the nod to start at third base instead and bat eighth.
