  • JoJo Romero RP | STL

Cardinals' JoJo Romero: Goes two innings for save

Romero allowed a hit and struck out three over two scoreless innings to earn the save in Thursday's 7-4 win over the Rays.

Romero was brought in for the eighth inning and threw 15 pitches in that frame. He stayed in for the ninth and added 11 more pitches to secure his fourth save of the season. It's encouraging usage for Romero, who had two losses, one blown save and two holds over hos previous four appearances, which made it look like his time as closer was over just weeks after it started. The lefty reliever has a 2.31 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 45:21 K:BB while adding 18 holds over 46.2 innings this season. Riley O'Brien has had a fairly stable August compared to Romero, which has pushed the Cardinals' late-inning situation into more of a committee approach.

  • Sonny Gray SP | BOS

Cardinals' Sonny Gray: Strikes out six in win

Gray (12-6) allowed three runs on six hits and a walk while striking out six over five innings to earn the win over the Rays on Thursday.

Gray wasn't dominant, but this was a much better effort than his last start, when he allowed six runs over five innings in a loss to the Yankees. Gray has given up 12 runs (11 earned) across 24 innings over his four starts in August, numbers right in line with his overall performance this year. He's at a 4.33 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 161:25 K:BB in 145.1 innings through 26 starts. The right-hander has a favorable matchup coming next week, as he's projected for a home start versus the Pirates.

  • James Wood RF | WAS

Nationals' James Wood: Launches three-run homer amid slump

Wood went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run in Thursday's 9-3 win over the Mets.

Wood socked his 26th homer of the season and piled up at least three RBI for the ninth time this year. Fantasy managers are hoping Thursday's showing will get the dynamic outfielder back on track, considering it's been an icy stretch at the plate since the start of July for Wood. Across his last 41 contests, Wood is slashing .203/.280/.329 with four homers, eight doubles, 19 RBI and four stolen bases.

  • Willy Adames SS | SF

Giants' Willy Adames: Crushes 20th homer amid cold spell

Adames went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and two walks in Thursday's 8-4 loss to the Padres.

Adames went back-to-back with Rafael Devers in the sixth inning for the former's 20th homer of the campaign. Adames' production in August has been a far cry from his output during a prolific July, when he produced a 1.096 OPS across 24 outings. Across 70 at-bats to open this month, the shortstop is batting a paltry .129 with four big flies, six RBI and two stolen bases.

  • Giants' Rafael Devers: Smashes 25th homer in loss

Devers went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 8-4 loss to the Padres.

That's now six homers during the month for Devers, who also clubbed his 25th of the year Thursday. Devers closed the month of July on a 0-for-14 dry spell at the plate, but he's been far more productive so far in August. Over his last 72 at-bats, the star corner infielder is hitting .250 with two doubles, 10 RBI, 10 runs scored and 11 walks.

  • Jose Ferrer RP | SEA

Nationals' Jose Ferrer: Strikes out three in save

Ferrer earned the save in Thursday's 9-3 win over the Mets, allowing one hit and no walks in 1.1 scoreless innings. He struck out three.

Ferrer entered the game with the Nationals nursing a 5-3 lead in the eighth inning, but Washington scored four more runs in the bottom half of the frame to give him a big cushion to work with while recording the final three outs. The 25-year-old southpaw has emerged as the clear favorite for saves following the Kyle Finnegan trade, having now converted each of his four save chances in August. Over his last 18.2 innings, Ferrer sports a 1.93 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 18:2 K:BB.

  • Jordan Wicks SP | CHC

Cubs' Jordan Wicks: Returned to minors

Wicks was returned to Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday, MLB.com reports.

Wicks served as the 27th man for the Cubs' doubleheader Tuesday, though he didn't appear in either contest. He's been effective as a starter with Iowa this season, but he has a bloated 9.72 ERA and 2.40 WHIP across 8.1 innings in the majors.

  • Mets' Francisco Lindor: Hot streak continues with long ball

Lindor went 3-for-5 with a solo home run in Thursday's 9-3 loss to Washington.

Lindor's incredible run continued, as he ran his hitting streak up to nine games and logged multiple knocks for the sixth time during that period. The All-Star shortstop has four homers, four doubles and two stolen bases over these last nine outings, as well. Since the start of August, Lindor is batting a torrid .356 with five long balls, six doubles and 13 RBI covering 73 at-bats.

  • Brenton Doyle CF | COL

Rockies' Brenton Doyle: Continues to surge with homer

Doyle went 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBI in Thursday's 9-5 loss to the Dodgers.

Doyle blasted his 13th homer of the season, also racking up at least four RBI for the third time this year. The speedy center fielder has been a big disappointment overall following a breakout 2024 campaign -- he has a .683 OPS in 2025 -- but he's working toward closing out another losing season for the Rockies on a high note. Since the All-Star break, Doyle is hitting .395 with six homers, 19 RBI, 16 runs scored and three stolen bases over 86 at-bats.

  • Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Homers, extends hitting streak

Freeman went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Thursday's 9-5 win over Colorado.

The All-Star first baseman extended his hitting streak to six games Thursday, and the homer was his 16th of the year. Freeman slumped a bit back in June and the early part of July, but he's found his groove at the plate over the past month or so. Across his last 33 games (143 plate appearances), Freeman is slashing .323/.399/.540 with six round trippers, nine doubles, 25 RBI and 19 runs scored.
