Canzone (hamstring) will start at designated hitter and bat third in Monday's game against the Angels.

Canzone missed Sunday's game versus the Guardians while nursing a sore right hamstring. He's still not 100 percent but is feeling well enough to serve as the Mariners' DH, per Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times. Canzone leads Mariners regulars this season with an .891 OPS.

The Orioles placed Akin on the 15-day injured list Monday, retroactive to Sunday, due to left elbow discomfort.

The issue may have cropped up during Akin's last outing Saturday against the Nationals, when he tossed two scoreless innings and allowed one hit and one walk while striking out two. After giving up six earned runs against Washington on May 16, Akins has posted a 1.56 ERA and 1.21 WHIP across 17.1 innings in his last 15 outings, so his loss is a sizable blow to the Orioles' bullpen. The move means the veteran southpaw will be out at least through the All-Star break. Josh Walker was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk in a corresponding move.

Monasterio is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Nationals.

Though Marcelo Mayer (forearm) recently joined fellow infielders Trevor Story (sports hernia), Nick Sogard (oblique) and Isiah Kiner-Falefa (forearm) on the injured list, Monasterio hasn't been able to gain a foothold in the Boston lineup. Monasterio will remain on the bench for the fifth game in a row while the Red Sox go with Anthony Seigler and Tsung-Che Cheng as their starters in the middle infield.

Nimmala has gone 0-for-2 with a walk and an RBI through two rehab games in the rookie-level Florida Complex League after Double-A New Hampshire placed him on its 7-day injured list May 30 due to a hamstring strain, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports.

After being promoted to New Hampshire on May 3, Nimmala slashed .308/.375/.369 with no home runs and three stolen bases across 72 plate appearances in 18 games before being forced to the shelf. He appears poised to return to the Double-A lineup before the All-Star break, as he's since been able to begin stockpiling at-bats in the FCL. The 20-year-old infielder is regarded as one of the top prospects in the Toronto system and could reach the big leagues as soon as 2027.

The Mariners placed Refsnyder (knees) on the 10-day injured list Monday, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports.

Refsnyder has gone 1-for-17 over his last seven games, and his poor performance at the plate may have been partially due to injuries to both of his knees. A minimum stint on the IL would have the veteran outfielder in line to return to the majors July 9, though it's unclear whether he'll be back in action before the All-Star break. Buddy Kennedy -- whom the Mariners acquired from the Giants on Sunday -- will take Refsnyder's spot on the 26-man active roster.

Gimenez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets.

Lefty Sean Manaea is starting for the Mets, so the Blue Jays will send Gimenez and fellow left-handed batter Daulton Varsho to the bench in order to add a pair of righty hitters to the mix. Luis Urias will enter the lineup at second base and will bat seventh while Ernie Clement shifts over from the keystone to cover shortstop in place of Gimenez.

Varsho is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets.

Lefty Sean Manaea is starting for the Mets, so the Blue Jays will send Varsho and fellow left-handed batter Andres Gimenez to the bench in order to add a pair of righty hitters to the mix. Myles Straw will replace Varsho in center field and will bat ninth.

Kirk is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets.

Kirk will be given a breather after he started at catcher in the final two games of the Blue Jays' weekend series versus the Rangers. Brandon Valenzuela will step in behind the plate Monday and form a battery with starting pitcher Trey Yesavage.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider said that Scherzer (back/side) played catch Monday and could throw a bullpen session as soon as Tuesday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Scherzer threw a bullpen session as recently as last Monday, but the Blue Jays briefly shut him down a few days later after he experienced left side discomfort that was seemingly related to the back spasms that forced him to the injured list June 17. The right-hander received a cortisone shot Friday and has responded well to the injection, so he'll start the process of getting stretched back out. Scherzer could have a realistic shot at returning to the Toronto rotation at some point next week if he avoids any further setbacks while building up.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Monday that Garcia (elbow/neck/biceps) has resumed playing catch, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Garcia has been on the shelf all season after requiring surgery last September to remove scar tissue around his right elbow, but biceps and neck nerve symptoms were cited as the reason behind the Blue Jays' decision to pull him off his rehab assignment last week. The right-hander appears to have responded well to several days of rest, prompting the Blue Jays to clear him to begin throwing again. Given that he's dealt with multiple setbacks this season -- Garcia was also pulled off a rehab assignment in May due to elbow soreness -- he could be built up slowly before the Blue Jays clear him to report back to a minor-league affiliate.
