Rays' Ian Seymour: Notches second save
Seymour worked a perfect ninth inning Wednesday to record his second save of the season in a 5-3 win over the Orioles. He didn't strike out a batter.
The southpaw has worked his way into a high-leverage role for the Rays, collecting two saves, two holds and a win over his last seven appearances dating back to May 6 while posting a 3.52 ERA, 0.65 WHIP and 8:1 K:BB in 7.2 innings. Bryan Baker was unavailable after pitching in three of the prior four games, but Garrett Cleavinger hasn't been used since Sunday, suggesting that Seymour may be the next man up in closing situations for manager Kevin Cash.

Rays' Ian Seymour: Yields homer as opener
Seymour allowed one run on two hits while striking out two across two innings while serving as the opener in the Rays' 7-2 win over the Marlins on Friday.
Seymour made his first start of the season Friday against Miami and went two innings as the opener, giving up a solo home run to Connor Norby in the second before handing the keys to Jesse Scholtens. Seymour has yielded a home run in two of his last three outings and has a 5.48 ERA and 1.36 WHIP over 21.1 innings this season. It's possible that Seymour operates as the Rays' opener when Scholtens makes his next appearance, which is tentatively slated for next week at home against the Orioles.

Rays' Ian Seymour: Serving as opener Friday
Seymour will start as the opener Friday against the Marlins, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
It will be Seymour's first official start of the season, but Jesse Scholtens is still expected to serve as the bulk reliever behind Seymour, according to Topkin. Seymour came up as a starting pitcher but has topped out at just 32 pitches in a single game as a full-time reliever through the first month and a half of the 2026 season.

Rays' Ian Seymour: Notches first career save
Seymour struck out one in a perfect ninth inning Wednesday to record his first save of the season in a 3-0 win over the Blue Jays.
Bryan Baker got the call in the eighth inning to face the 9-1-2 hitters, including Toronto's hottest bat in Kazuma Okamoto, but that still left the heart of the order for Seymour in the ninth. The southpaw didn't blink, firing nine of 11 pitches for strikes to collect his first career save and striking out Vladimir Guerrero along the way. Seymour has eight holds and a win in his 16 appearances in addition to Wednesday's save, but his 5.09 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 20:7 K:BB over 17.2 innings don't immediately mark him as a reliable high-leverage option.

Rays' Ian Seymour: Picks up fourth hold
Seymour recorded a hold while allowing two hits and no walks in 1.2 scoreless innings of relief Saturday against Pittsburgh. He struck out three.
Seymour is still recovering from a disastrous Opening Day outing, when he surrendered five runs and failed to record an out. The left-hander logged hold No. 4 on the campaign Saturday and submitted his fourth scoreless appearance in his last six, but his ERA still stands at 8.68 with a 1.50 WHIP across his first 9.1 innings.

Rays' Ian Seymour: Secures bullpen spot
Seymour will begin the season as a member of the Rays' bullpen, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Seymour pitched well during spring training with four runs allowed and a 15:4 K:BB across 13.1 innings, and he'll open the campaign as a reliever for the Rays. The 27-year-old righty made his MLB debut last season, starting in five of 19 appearances and posting a 3.63 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 64:19 K:BB over 57 frames.

Rays' Ian Seymour: Making strong case for roster spot
Seymour allowed one hit and no walks in 2.1 scoreless innings during Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Yankees. He struck out four.
The 27-year-old left-hander is off to an encouraging start this spring, posting a 2.70 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 12:3 K:BB over 10 frames (four appearances). With Shane McClanahan and Steven Matz expected to have workload limitations to start the year, the Rays are likely to need a couple of long relievers on their Opening Day roster, per Marc Topkin of The Tampa Bay Times. That bodes well for the roster chances of Seymour, who recorded a 3.63 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 64:19 K:BB across 57 innings for Tampa Bay in 2025.

Rays' Ian Seymour: Drawing start in season finale
Seymour is slated to start Sunday's game in Toronto.
In his most recent appearance Tuesday, Seymour ended up piggybacking starter Ryan Pepiot and covered four innings while allowing three earned runs on four hits and two walks. Seymour will return to a traditional starting role for the season finale and will look to finish the campaign on a high note as he makes a case for a spot in the 2026 rotation. Since being called up from Triple-A Durham on July 31, Seymour has logged a 3.14 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 48:14 K:BB in 43 innings over 11 outings.

Rays' Ian Seymour: Falls to Toronto
Seymour (4-3) took the loss Sunday against the Blue Jays, allowing six runs on seven hits and two walks over 3.1 innings. He struck out seven.
Toronto got to Seymour out of the gate Sunday, scoring five times in the first inning, punctuated by an Alejandro Kirk grand slam. The 26-year-old Seymour had been pitching well coming into the day, posting a 2.08 ERA in his previous six appearances (30.1 innings). While it wasn't the ideal finish, it was an encouraging rookie campaign overall for the left-hander. Seymour posted a 3.63 ERA with a 1.18 WHIP and 64:19 K:BB across 57 innings.
