  • Clarke Schmidt RP | NYY

Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Another live BP coming

Schmidt (lat) threw 20 pitches of live batting practice Tuesday and will face hitters again Saturday, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.

Schmidt was reportedly feeling good after Tuesday's session. After throwing batting practice again Saturday, the Yankees will decide whether or not Schmidt is ready for a rehab assignment. The 28-year-old has exclusively worked as a starter the past two seasons and, per Kirschner, the Yankees intend to build him up as a starter. However, Schmidt doesn't openly oppose coming out of the bullpen if that's what's best for the team. The right-hander has been shelved since late May and remains multiple weeks away from returning.

  • Taylor Ward RF | SEA

Angels' Taylor Ward: Moves to paternity list

The Angels placed Ward on the paternity list Tuesday.

Ward will step away from the team for a few days in order to be with his growing family. The 30-year-old should be back with the Angels for Friday's series opener at Washington.

  • Dylan Coleman RP | NYY

Astros' Dylan Coleman: Removed from 40-man roster

The Astros designated Coleman for assignment Tuesday.

The club needed to clear a 40-man roster spot for the addition of Zach Dezenzo. Coleman has spent virtually all of his season at Triple-A Sugar Land, where he holds a 6.50 ERA and 42:42 K:BB over 36 frames.

  • Trey Cabbage 1B | PIT

Astros' Trey Cabbage: Optioned to Triple-A

The Astros optioned Cabbage to Triple-A Sugar Land on Tuesday.

Cabbage had made just four starts since the All-Star break and was 4-for-34 with 18 strikeouts since the break. Zach Dezenzo is taking his spot on the roster.

  • Will Warren SP | NYY

Yankees' Will Warren: Will make spot start Wednesday

Warren will be recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to start the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Angels, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

The Yankees will go with Luis Gil in the first game of the twin bill before turning to Warren, who will be up as the 27th man before likely being sent back down after the start. Warren permitted four runs with a 6:2 K:BB over 5.1 innings against the Phillies in his major-league debut July 30.

  • Orioles' Cedric Mullins: Out of Baltimore lineup

Mullins is not in the lineup for Tuesday's contest in Toronto.

It's right-hander Chris Bassitt on the hill for the Blue Jays, but the left-handed hitting Mullins nonetheless will find himself on the bench to begin the game. Colton Cowser will patrol center field for the Orioles while Ryan O'Hearn gets a start in left.

  • Orioles' Chayce McDermott: Goes on Triple-A IL

Triple-A Norfolk placed McDermott on the 7-day injured list Tuesday with a right scapula stress reaction, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.

McDermott's last appearance for Norfolk came back on July 30, and he struck out 10 while yielding just two runs over six innings. However, the right-hander evidently picked up an injury during or after that outing and now appears likely to miss multiple weeks.

  • Royals' Freddy Fermin: Getting rest Tuesday

Fermin is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Red Sox.

After starting six straight games -- four at DH, two at catcher -- Fermin will have the night off Tuesday. The 29-year-old is slashing .304/.352/.429 with a 18.4 percent strikeout rate in 245 plate appearances.

  • Paul DeJong SS | DET

Royals' Paul DeJong: On bench again

DeJong is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Red Sox.

DeJong started at third base in four of the Royals' first five games after being traded from the White Sox, but he's now been withheld from the starting lineup for back-to-back contests. Maikel Garcia will play the hot corner while Michael Massey plays the keystone.

  • Davis Daniel RP | CIN

Angels' Davis Daniel: LAA-NYY rained out Tuesday

Daniel and the Angels will not play Tuesday after their game against the Yankees was postponed due to inclement weather.

The contest has been rescheduled as part of a traditional doubleheader Wednesday. Daniel will now take the ball for the Angels in one of those two games.
