Caglianone, who is slashing .346/.406/.615 through six games with Double-A Northwest Arkansas this season, hit an opposite-field single at 120.9 mph off the bat Thursday, Chris Clegg of The Dynasty Dugout reports.

As Clegg notes, the hardest-hit ball the Royals have ever had in the Statcast era was 118 mph off the bat of Eric Hosmer in 2017. Further, Caglianone's two homers this season have both traveled more than 460 feet, per Pete Grathoff of The Kansas City Star. While it's a stretch to think the Royals would jump their top prospect over Triple-A and straight the big-league level, that's not unheard of by any stretch. Kansas City is tied for dead last in the majors this season with only six home runs as a team.

Thomas (wrist) is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Royals.

Thomas will miss his third straight start after he was hit on the wrist by a pitch in the Guardians' home opener earlier in the week. Angel Martinez is batting seventh and starting in center field for Cleveland on Friday.

Lane Thomas (wrist) remains out of the lineup, and left-hander Kris Bubic is making the start for Kansas City, giving Martinez a chance to start over Nolan Jones. It will be Martinez's first big-league action of the season after he was recently recalled from the minors. Martinez slashed .257/.386/.314 with two doubles, three RBI and eight runs scored across 44 plate appearances against lefties last season.

The Royals placed Harvey (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list Friday.

Harvey has been diagnosed with a right teres major strain, and the move is retroactive to April 8. Harvey last pitched Monday against the Twins. He's appeared in six games this season and has yet to allow an earned run across 5.1 innings while posting a 7:0 K:BB. John Schreiber and Lucas Erceg will handle setup duties ahead of Carlos Estevez while Harvey is sidelined.

The Royals recalled Cruz from Triple-A Omaha on Friday.

Cruz takes the roster spot of Hunter Harvey, who was placed on the 15-day IL with a right teres major strain. Cruz pitched in five regular-season games for the Royals last season, posting a 0.00 ERA and 4:0 K:BB across 5.2 innings of work.

The Rays recalled Sulser from Triple-A Durham on Friday, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports.

Sulser takes the roster spot of Kevin Kelly, who was placed on the 15-day IL with a glute strain. Sulser appeared in 10 games for the Mets and Rays last season, making a pair of starts and registering a 2.76 ERA and 15:9 K:BB across 16.1 innings. He'll provide a long-relief option in the Tampa Bay bullpen.

Kelly threw 18 pitches in an inning of relief Wednesday against the Angels but will now miss at least the next couple weeks with a glute strain. On the season, Kelly has tossed five innings, registering a 3.60 ERA and 2:2 K:BB. Cole Sulser has been recalled from Triple-A Durham in a corresponding move.

Polanco is expected to remain limited to DH duties for another week or two, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports.

Additionally, the switch-hitting Polanco, who has been dealing with soreness in his side, doesn't appear to be quite ready to hit right-handed. "He still has a little bit of soreness when he swings right-handed," manager Dan Wilson said Wednesday. "He continues to get better and better, and we'll keep monitoring it." With Ryan Bliss (biceps) out until after the All-Star break and Polanco still not ready to play the field, the Mariners are pretty thin on the infield. When in the lineup, Polanco has swung a hot bat, slashing .370/.393/.593 with two home runs, 10 RBI, two runs and one stolen base across 29 plate appearances.

The White Sox designated Anderson for assignment Friday.

Chicago needed the 40-man roster spot in order to promote Chase Meidroth from Triple-A Charlotte. Anderson pitched in 56 regular-season games out of the bullpen for the White Sox last season, turning in a 4.39 ERA and 9.62 K/9 across 53.1 innings.

The White Sox selected Meidroth's contract from Triple-A Charlotte on Friday.

To make room for Meidroth on the 40-man roster, the White Sox designated Justin Anderson for assignment. Meidroth was acquired from the Red Sox in the Garrett Crochet trade during the offseason, and he's now headed to the big leagues after slashing .267/.450/.600 with three home runs, four RBI, 11 runs scored and two stolen bases across 40 plate appearances at Triple-A. Meidroth is expected to see the bulk of his playing time at shortstop.
