Orioles' Tyler O'Neill: Homers again Thursday
O'Neill went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Thursday's 3-2 win over the Cubs.
O'Neill opened the scoring by leading off the second inning with a solo homer off David Peterson. After managing just two long balls through his first 52 games this season, the veteran outfielder has caught fire with four home runs over his last five contests. Despite the recent surge, he closes in on the All-Star break with what would be career lows across the board, slashing .196/.296/.358.

Orioles' Tyler O'Neill: Swats two homers in loss
O'Neill went 2-for-2 with two solo home runs in Wednesday's 9-7 loss to the Cubs.
The two teams combined for nine long balls on the night, and O'Neill made his contributions even though he began the game on the bench -- after launching a pinch-hit homer off Drew Pomeranz in the seventh inning, he went yard again in the eighth off Caleb Thielbar as Baltimore tried to put together a late rally from a 9-3 deficit. O'Neill has five homers on the season in 55 contests, but three of them have come in his last 10 plate appearances. Over his last 16 games, the veteran outfielder has compiled a .273/.360/.591 slash line and pushed for consistent playing time, but his 34.0 percent strikeout rate during that stretch remains a red flag.

Orioles' Tyler O'Neill: Pops rare homer Wednesday
O'Neill went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and a walk in Wednesday's 6-1 win over the White Sox.
The veteran outfielder launched his first homer Wednesday since May 16 in Washington. With Dylan Beavers recently returning from the injured list, O'Neill is likely to remain stuck in a part-time role in the outfield going forward. O'Neill is slugging a career-low .295 this season and is also batting a paltry .187 with three homers, six doubles and nine RBI over 159 plate appearances.

Orioles' Tyler O'Neill: Back on bench Sunday
O'Neill is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres.
O'Neill had been included in the starting nine in four of the past five games and went 6-for-16 with four doubles and a walk during that stretch, but he might have to settle for a part-time role due to Samuel Basallo being healthy and getting prioritized at designated hitter. O'Neill should still get the chance to play regularly versus lefties, and he'll likely get some occasional opportunities in right field against right-handed pitching at the expense of Leody Taveras.

Orioles' Tyler O'Neill: Pops solo homer in rout
O'Neill went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 13-3 loss to Washington.
O'Neill has fallen into a weak-side platoon role during his second year with the Orioles, ceding most of the action at designated hitter to the left-handed-hitting Samuel Basallo. The lefty-hitting Dylan Beavers was serving as Baltimore's primary right fielder before going on the injured list Wednesday with a right oblique strain, but now the door is open for O'Neill to play nearly every day in the interim. O'Neill has gone a dreadful 2-for-29 (.069) versus southpaws this year, but he's batting a more respectable .250 with two home runs, one double, seven RBI and eight walks over 40 at-bats against right-handed pitching.

Orioles' Tyler O'Neill: Activated from injured list
The Orioles activated O'Neill (concussion) from the 7-day injured list Friday.
O'Neill hasn't played since April 8, as he initially missed time with an illness before fainting from dehydration and suffering a concussion. Prior to his time on the injured list, O'Neill slashed .241/.353/.345 with one home run, four RBI, six runs scored and a 3:6 BB:K across 34 plate appearances. Dylan Beavers and Leody Taveras have been seeing more playing time with O'Neill idle.

Orioles' Tyler O'Neill: Works out on field
O'Neill (concussion) did some agility work on the field at Kauffmann Stadium on Monday, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.
O'Neill is slowly easing back into activities as he works his way back from a concussion. He hasn't played in a game in nearly two weeks, so there's a good chance O'Neill will need a short rehab assignment before rejoining the Orioles' active roster.

Orioles' Tyler O'Neill: Needs more time to recover
Manager Craig Albernaz said Friday that O'Neill (concussion) needs more time to recover and still has yet to clear protocol, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.
O'Neill is eligible to come off the 7-day concussion injured list Saturday, but that's not going to happen. With O'Neill sidelined, Dylan Beavers and Leody Taveras will continue to see regular at-bats in the Baltimore outfield mix.

Orioles' Tyler O'Neill: Not ready to start Sunday
O'Neill (illness) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.
After being scratched from the lineup Saturday, O'Neill will get another day off to recuperate from his ailment. With Ryan Mountcastle (foot) also unavailable and Samuel Basallo needed at catcher, the Orioles will turn to Dylan Beavers to serve as their designated hitter Sunday.

Orioles' Tyler O'Neill: Suffered concussion while ill
O'Neill suffered a concussion while he was dehydrated from an illness Thursday, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports.
O'Neill was absent from the Orioles' lineups Friday and Saturday due to an illness before he was placed on the 7-day concussion injured list Sunday. Manager Craig Albernaz explained that the outfielder fainted while he was under the weather Thursday, and the team believes he banged his head when he fell, ultimately suffering a concussion. O'Neill will be forced miss at least the next handful of games while recovering, and in his absence, Leody Taveras is a top candidate to see increased opportunities in the lineup.

Orioles' Tyler O'Neill: Lands on concussion IL
O'Neill was placed on the 7-day concussion injured list Sunday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
The veteran outfielder was scratched from the lineup Friday due to an illness, but he's also apparently dealing with some concussion symptoms. O'Neill will be sidelined until at least next weekend. Johnathan Rodriguez was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk in a corresponding move.

Orioles' Tyler O'Neill: Scratched due to illness
O'Neill (illness) was scratched from Friday's starting lineup against the Giants, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
O'Neill was originally slated to bat sixth and handle right field, but Leody Taveras is now in the lineup, hitting seventh and playing center field while Dylan Beavers slides over to right field, batting sixth. O'Neill is slashing .241/.353/.345 with one home run, four RBI, six runs scored and a 3:6 BB:K across 34 trips to the plate this season.

Orioles' Tyler O'Neill: Taking seat for matinee game
O'Neill is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rangers.
O'Neill had started in four of the Orioles' first five games but will hit the bench for the series finale as Baltimore goes with Taylor Ward at designated hitter and Colton Cowser in right field. Though Baltimore is at full strength in the outfield, O'Neill will be a regular presence in the lineup against left-handed pitching and should play at least semi-regularly against right-handers so long as he's swinging the bat reasonably well.

Orioles' Tyler O'Neill: Sitting for second time on weekend
O'Neill is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins.
Though the right-handed-hitting O'Neill has now hit the bench for two of the Orioles' first three games while Baltimore has faced three right-handed starting pitchers, he still should continue to play at least semi-regularly versus righties. Despite not starting in Saturday's 4-1 win, O'Neill still ended up going 0-for-2 while playing the final three innings in right field after coming off the bench to replace Dylan Beavers.

Orioles' Tyler O'Neill: Starting opener versus righty
O'Neill will start in right field and bat sixth in Thursday's opener versus the Twins.
It's righty Joe Ryan on the bump for the Twins, but the right-handed-hitting O'Neill will nonetheless get the call in right field as he attempts to extend his major-league record Opening Day home run streak to seven. Dylan Beavers has been battling a knee/quad injury recently, which also could have played into Orioles manager Craig Albernaz's decision to start O'Neill. The two players are expected to share the right-field job this season.
