The White Sox placed Gilbert on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a sprained MCL in his left knee.

Gilbert was pulled from Friday's game against the Cubs after facing just two batters and will now miss at least the rest of May upon moving to the IL. Jared Shuster will come up from Triple-A Charlotte to fill Gilbert's place in the South Siders' bullpen.

Evans (2-1) picked up the win in Friday's 5-1 victory over the Padres, allowing seven hits and a walk over six scoreless innings. He struck out three.

The rookie right-hander kept a dangerous offense in check for 89 pitches (57 strikes) as he recorded his first career quality start in the majors. Evans has bailed out an injury-plagued Seattle rotation since his promotion in late April, and through four outings he's posted a 2.57 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 14:8 K:BB through 21 innings. With George Kirby (shoulder) wrapping up a rehab assignment and Logan Gilbert (elbow) also potentially back before the end of May, the clock could be ticking on Evans' first stint on the 26-man roster, but there's also a chance he sticks around if the Mariners decide he's a better option than Emerson Hancock. For now, Evans lines up to make his next start on the road next week in a juicy matchup against the White Sox.

Vargas went 4-for-4 with two home runs, a double and three RBI against the Cubs on Friday.

There was some concern that Vargas would lose playing time after the promotion of Tim Elko, but he's instead had the most productive stretch of his season while shifting back to third base. He has started four consecutive games and gone 8-for-18 with three homers, seven RBI and four runs scored. After a very slow start to the season, he now has a .731 OPS with five home runs, 19 RBI and 19 runs scored across 42 games.

Baez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 5-4 win over the Blue Jays.

Baez continued his strong recent play as he recorded his sixth home run of the season, all of which have come over his last 12 games. For the season, the veteran is now sporting an impressive .307 batting average and .855 OPS. By comparison, Baez batted just .184 during the 2024 regular season with a .515 OPS. The OPS was a new career low.

Pillar (back) began a rehab assignment for Double-A Frisco on Wednesday and is 1-for-7 over two games.

Pillar started at designated hitter Wednesday and played seven innings in center field Thursday. He was rested Friday but the assignment is set to continue through the weekend, MLB.com reports.

McKinstry went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Friday's 5-4 win over the Blue Jays.

McKinstry hit his second home run of the season in the fourth inning against Toronto starter Bowden Francis. The infielder now has half as many long balls as he did during the 2024 regular season, and while he's not a huge power threat, he's been effective with a .286 batting average and .803 OPS through 41 games in 2025. Both of those figures would be new career highs for McKinstry.

Sands struck out two in a perfect ninth inning Friday to record his second save of the season in a 3-0 win over the Brewers.

Jhoan Duran was unavailable after pitching Wednesday and Thursday, but manager Rocco Baldelli elected to use Griffin Jax in the eighth inning Friday against the top of Milwaukee's order before handing the ball to Sands for the ninth. Sands has earned his spot in Minnesota's high-leverage crew with a 2.55 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 14:6 K:BB through 17.2 innings on the season, but despite picking up two saves in the last three days -- his first came in the second game of Wednesday's twin bill after Duran had worked the matinee -- the 27-year-old righty still appears to be no higher than third in the pecking order for closing duties.

Ryan (4-2) picked up the win Friday, allowing two hits and a walk over six scoreless innings in a 3-0 victory over the Brewers. He struck out nine.

Milwaukee got a runner to third base in the first inning on a Brice Turang single and a couple stolen bases, but it was as close as the home side would come to getting a run on the board off Ryan. The right-hander fired 64 of 99 pitches for strikes en route to his fourth straight quality start, and he'll take a 2.42 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and 63:6 K:BB through 52 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home next week against the Guardians.

Smith (1-3) was saddled with the loss in Friday's 13-3 defeat at the hands of the Cubs, allowing six runs (one earned) on seven hits and a walk while punching out five batters in five innings.

An error from catcher Matt Thaiss on a play at the plate in the second inning ensured that Pete Crow-Armstrong's three-run homer and Seiya Suzuki's RBI double later in the inning wouldn't count against Smith's line, so the 25-year-old righty still owns a 2.05 ERA despite allowing six runs to cross the plate Friday. He'll look to bounce back next week against a Mariners offense that owns a .677 OPS since the start of May.

Jung went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a second run scored in Friday's 6-3 loss to the Astros.

The 27-year-old wrapped up the scoring on the night by taking Josh Hader deep in the ninth inning, in a non-save situation for the Houston closer. Jung has found his power stroke in May, launching five of his seven homers on the year over the last 10 games while batting .371 (13-for-35) with nine RBI.
