Correa was scratched from the lineup ahead of Wednesday's game against the Athletics due to back tightness, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

The severity of Correa's injury remains unknown, but it's apparently enough to warrant keeping him on the bench for Wednesday's contest. Brooks Lee will enter the starting nine in Correa's place, batting eighth while playing shortstop.

Rafaela went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 11-9 win over the Angels.

With the score tied 9-9 in the ninth inning, Rafaela sliced a Brock Burke changeup down the right-field line and tucked it just inside Pesky's Pole for the game-winner homer. Rafaela has gone yard in three straight games, accounting for half his home runs on the season, while Wednesday's clutch blast extended the 24-year-old's hitting streak to eight games -- a stretch in which he's batting .412 (14-for-34).

Giolito didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 11-9 win over the Angels, coughing up seven runs on eight hits and a walk over 1.2 innings. He struck out one.

Six of the eight hits off Giolito went for extra bases, as the Halos put plenty of balls off -- or in Taylor Ward's case, over -- the Green Monster. It was the shortest outing of the season for the right-hander, with the seven runs allowed being a season high, and Giolito saw his ERA balloon from 4.78 to 6.42 as a result. He'll try to shake it off ahead of his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Rays.

Ward went 1-for-4 with a home run and four RBI in Wednesday's 11-9 loss to the Red Sox.

The 31-year-old continues to supply plenty of power, but little else for the Angels. Ward put a Lucas Giolito changeup over the Green Monster in the first inning for a three-run shot, but he's gone 12 straight games without a multi-hit performance, batting just .163 (7-for-43) over that stretch. On the season, Ward sports a lopsided .213/.266/.478 slash line with 17 homers and 42 RBI in 60 contests.

Soriano escaped with a no-decision in Wednesday's 11-9 loss to Boston, surrendering seven runs on eight hits and three walks over 3.2 innings. He struck out three.

The right-hander did avoid serving up a homer for the eighth straight start, but that was about the only silver lining for Soriano, who needed 99 pitches (59 strikes) to record 11 outs while coughing up a season-high seven runs. He'll take a 4.11 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 52:37 K:BB through 72.1 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home early next week against the A's.

Interim manager Tony Mansolino said Wednesday that Mullins (hamstring) has resumed running and is expected to begin baseball activities soon, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Mullins landed on the injured list Friday due to a strained right hamstring, and the fact that he's already back to running is encouraging. It's still unknown if he'll be able to return from the IL when eligible Sunday, though some clarity may come once he progresses a bit further in his rehab.

Guardians manager Stephen Vogt said Wednesday that Thomas (foot) resumed running for the first time since being placed on the 10-day injured list Friday, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.

Thomas was diagnosed with right foot plantar fasciitis, but the Guardians don't anticipate a long stint on the IL, which suggests the 29-year-old outfielder may avoid a rehab assignment. Thomas was slashing .119/.169/.136 with one steal and three RBI over 65 plate appearances prior to his placement on the IL.

The Tigers recalled Foley (shoulder) from Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday and placed him on the 60-day injured list.

Foley has been on the Triple-A injured list since mid-April due to a shoulder strain, and he underwent season-ending surgery in May to address the issue. He'll now join the major-league 60-day IL in order to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Sawyer Gipson-Long, who was activated from the injured list to start Wednesday's game against the White Sox.

Wilson (neck) is starting at shortstop and batting second Wednesday against the Twins, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

The 23-year-old sat out Tuesday's contest after he tweaked his neck during Monday's series opener versus Minnesota, but he'll rejoin the starting nine after missing just one game. Wilson has been on fire at the plate over the past couple weeks with a .426 average (23-for-54), four doubles, two homers, three steals, six RBI and six runs in his past 14 games.

The Tigers optioned Smith to Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

The transaction clears a spot on the Tigers' 26-man active roster for Sawyer Gipson-Long (elbow/hip), who was reinstated from the 15-day injured list ahead of his start Wednesday against the White Sox. After getting his first big-league call-up last Friday, Smith made two appearances out of the bullpen and allowed two runs on four hits and two walks over three innings without striking out a batter.
