The Athletics selected Bowden's contract from Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Bowden earned a promotion by putting up a 1.36 ERA and 41:18 K:BB over 39.2 innings at Las Vegas. The left-handed reliever's lone action in the majors to this point came with the Rockies in 3032, when he collected a 6.56 ERA over 39 appearances.

The Athletics optioned Harris to Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Harris has coughed up 12 runs (10 earned) over his last 14 innings to earn a trip back to the minors. His spot on the 26-man active roster and in the bullpen will be absorbed by lefty Ben Bowden, who was recalled from Triple-A.

Anthony is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies.

After starting in each of Boston's last seven games, the left-handed-hitting Anthony will retreat to the bench Wednesday while the Phillies send southpaw Jesus Luzardo to the hill for the series finale. Boston will use Masataka Yoshida at designated hitter and will roll out a starting outfield of Rob Refsnyder, Jarren Duran and Wilyer Abreu from left to right.

The Orioles transferred Handley (concussion) from the 7-day injured list to the 10-day IL due to a right wrist sprain.

Handley suffered a concussion as a result of a collision with the Yankees' Jazz Chisholm back on June 22, but he also hurt his wrist on the play. He appears to have since cleared concussion protocol, but a recent visit with a wrist specialist confirmed a sprain. The Orioles haven't indicated how long Handley might be shelved.

Toro is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.

With southpaw Jesus Luzardo on the mound for the Phillies, the switch-hitting Toro will give way at first base to the right-handed-hitting Romy Gonzalez, who has been one of the Red Sox's top performing hitters versus lefties this season. Toro and Gonzalez are likely to operate in a quasi-platoon at first base for the foreseeable future, unless Boston brings in an upgrade at the position prior to the July 31 trade deadline.

The Orioles optioned Young to Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday.

The move comes one day after Young allowed three runs over 4.1 innings in his start in the Orioles' loss to the Guardians. Young has produced an ugly 7.77 ERA in five starts with the Orioles, but he could get another opportunity next week during Tuesday's doubleheader versus the Blue Jays.

The Orioles activated Eflin (back) from the 15-day injured list Wednesday.

Eflin will rejoin the Orioles rotation Wednesday with a start against the Guardians after being sidelined nearly a month due to lower-back discomfort. The veteran right-hander threw 68 pitches over four innings in his final rehab outing in the rookie-level Florida Complex League last Friday, so Eflin will be somewhat limited from a workload perspective Wednesday.

Bregman is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.

Bregman has acknowledged that he's still not quite 100 percent recovered from the quadriceps strain that kept him on the shelf from May 24 through July 11, so the Red Sox could give him one or two days off per week in an effort to keep him fresh. With Bregman getting a breather Wednesday, Marcelo Mayer will pick up the start at third base.

Gusto has made his last three appearances for the Astros as a reliever, covering 6.1 innings in total while allowing two earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five.

Gusto has made 12 starts for Houston this season and had been a fixture in the rotation since late May, but the Astros transitioned him to the bullpen shortly before the All-Star break. In Houston's final series of the first half, Gusto came on in long relief July 11 following a short start by Lance McCullers, and he made a pair of one-inning appearances in last weekend's series in Seattle. McCullers has since been placed on the injured list due to a blister on his right hand, so Gusto could be needed once again to plug one of the holes in the rotation. Houston is listing Hunter Brown and Colton Gordon as its starters for the final two games of its upcoming four-game series with the Athletics, but Gusto could be called upon to start or work in bulk relief Thursday or Friday.

Soler was removed in the bottom of the third inning of Wednesday's game against the Mets due to back tightness.

A bout with back soreness forced Soler to the injured list June 20, and the Angels had been giving him more frequent days off since he was activated July 1. The extra maintenance apparently hasn't fully resolved the issue, as Soler's back acted up again Wednesday and resulted him being removed from the contest after just one plate appearance. Chris Taylor started at third base but took over in right field once Soler exited the game.
