  • Logan Gilbert SP | SEA

Mariners' Logan Gilbert: Posts another sharp outing

Gilbert didn't factor into the decision against Atlanta on Friday, allowing one run on five hits and one walk while striking out seven over six innings.

The right-hander looked shaky out of the gate, loading the bases with the first three batters he faced, but he limited the damage to a single run, punching out Michael Harris with two men aboard. Gilbert settled in after the first, retiring 15 of the next 18 hitters he faced to post his third consecutive quality start. Over that stretch, the 28-year-old has logged a 2.50 ERA and 26 strikeouts across 18 innings, though he's come away with just one win. Gilbert will look to keep rolling in his next scheduled start against St. Louis.

  • Rays' Junior Caminero: Another long ball Friday

Caminero went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 7-1 loss to the Guardians.

Caminero launched a 421-foot solo shot off Gavin Williams in the sixth inning for his 41st homer of the year. The 22-year-old has been on a scorching hot pace since the start of August, blasting 14 home runs in that span, the most in MLB, while batting .298 (37-for-124) with 32 RBI and 25 runs scored. Caminero is up to a .263/.304/.541 slash line with 103 RBI, 85 runs scored and seven stolen bases through 573 plate appearances and is inching closer toward the Rays' single-season home run record of 46, set by Carlos Pena in 2007.

  • Ian Seymour RP | TB

Rays' Ian Seymour: Bulk appearance ends in loss

Seymour (3-1) took the loss against the Guardians on Friday, giving up five runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out five over four innings of relief.

Seymour entered in the second inning behind opener Griffin Jax and was immediately hurt by a defensive miscue that extended the frame. The error put the leadoff man aboard, allowing the Guardians to capitalize with three two-out runs during a five-run frame that gave them a lead they never relinquished. The left-hander bounced back with three clean innings to finish his outing on a stronger note, but the damage had already been done to stick him with the loss. Though Seymour has been utilized primarily as a reliever, both Friday and at the start of his MLB career, the Rays may opt to transition him back into the rotation, where he's surrendered just one earned run in 10 innings across two starts.

  • Gavin Williams SP | CLE

Guardians' Gavin Williams: Sharp again, picks up 10th win

Williams (10-5) earned the win over the Rays on Friday, allowing one run on seven hits and three walks while striking out three over seven innings.

Williams worked around traffic most of the night, allowing at least one baserunner in each frame until he finished with a clean seventh. The right-hander's lone blemish was a solo homer by Junior Caminero in the sixth, marking the sixth time in his last nine starts that he's limited opponents to one run or fewer. The 26-year-old will take a 3.17 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 146:76 K:BB through 150.2 innings into his next scheduled outing, a favorable matchup against Kansas City.

  • Darell Hernaiz SS | ATH

Athletics' Darell Hernaiz: Posts second steal

Hernaiz went 2-for-5 with a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 10-4 win over the Angels.

Hernaiz has maintained a decent share of playing time over the last week as the Athletics' primary third baseman, but his bat hasn't kept up. He has gone a modest 4-for-20 over his last six games, posting a 3:3 BB:K in that span. His steal Friday was his second of the season, and that's been on six attempts, which isn't great considering he stole 12 bases without getting caught over 95 games to begin the season with Triple-A Las Vegas. Hernaiz has added a middling .250/.323/.357 slash line with two home runs, 12 RBI and 13 runs scored over 32 contests in the majors this year.

  • J.J. Bleday LF | CIN

Athletics' JJ Bleday: Homers during big rally

Bleday went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Friday's 10-4 win over the Angels.

Bleday went yard as part of a seven-run third inning for the Athletics. His blast knocked Angels starter Jose Soriano out of the game. Bleday has already homered three times in September after hitting just two long balls across 19 contests in August. The outfielder is up to 13 homers, 35 RBI, 46 runs scored and a stolen base while slashing .215/.303/.412 across 84 games this season.

  • Athletics' Lawrence Butler: Launches 19th homer

Butler went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, a second RBI and two total runs scored in Friday's 10-4 win over the Angels.

Butler has logged multiple hits in five of his last seven games while adding two homers and five RBI in that span. He had a poor August, batting .215 with a .688 OPS over 25 contests, but he turned things around late in the month, and that has carried over to a successful early September. On the season, the outfielder has 19 long balls, 17 stolen bases, 56 RBI, 76 runs scored and a .238/.310/.415 slash line through 135 games.

  • Mason Barnett RP | ATH

Athletics' Mason Barnett: Collects first win

Barnett (1-1) allowed four runs on three hits and five walks while striking out eight over five innings to earn the win versus the Angels on Friday.

The Athletics' third-inning explosion gave Barnett enough run support, and the rookie right-hander was able to grind out five innings on 102 pitches (55 strikes) to secure his first win in the majors. It was still far from an encouraging performance for the 24-year-old, who has now given up nine runs with a 9:5 K:BB over his first nine innings in the majors. The Athletics are far out of the wild-card race and have a handful of injuries in the rotation, so there's some room for Barnett to learn on the job. He's tentatively projected to make his next start at home versus the Red Sox.

  • Jose Soriano SP | LAA

Angels' Jose Soriano: Worst outing of season versus A's

Soriano (10-10) allowed eight runs on six hits and five walks while striking out four over 2.1 innings to take the loss Friday versus the Athletics.

Soriano had won three of his last four starts, posting scoreless lines in each victory, but it was again the Athletics that got to him. He posted quality starts in his first two matchups against the A's this year, but they've responded by tagging him for 13 runs across eight innings in his last two starts against them. Soriano has been prone to blowups this year -- this is the eighth time he's given up five or more earned runs and the ninth time he's been charged with at least five runs. Over 29 starts, he has a 4.07 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 148:73 K:BB through 163.2 innings. He's tentatively projected to make his next start at home versus the Twins.

  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Red Sox's Trevor Story: Registers 26th steal

Story went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 10-5 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Story has made an impact on the basepaths with four steals over his last 10 games. On the year, he's up to 26 steals, and he's yet to get caught. Only Story and Minnesota's Byron Buxton have swiped 20-plus bags without getting caught so far this season. Story has added a .259/.306/.434 slash line with 23 home runs, 88 RBI, 79 runs scored and 24 doubles over 138 contests in his first fully healthy campaign in a Boston uniform.
