  • Payton Tolle SP | BOS

Red Sox's Payton Tolle: Second start goes off rails

Tolle (0-1) allowed five runs on five hits and four walks while striking out two over three innings to take the loss Friday versus the Diamondbacks.

Tolle fell behind early when he gave up a solo home run to Geraldo Perdomo in the first inning. He then allowed Jordan Lawlar to score on a wild pitch in the second before Ildemaro Vargas lifted a three-run homer in the third. Tolle's second start was obviously a disappoint compared to his encouraging MLB debut versus the Pirates last week. He's now allowed seven runs with a 10:6 K:BB across 8.1 innings. Tolle has gotten at least five days of rest between every start this season, so the Red Sox may need to incorporate a sixth starter or bullpen days down the stretch if they intend to keep him on that schedule.

  • Grant Wolfram RP | BAL

Orioles' Grant Wolfram: Rebounds in scoreless appearance

Wolfram allowed one hit and no walks in two-thirds of an inning Friday against the Dodgers.

The Orioles hadn't called upon Wolfram in a week after he threw a season-high 42 pitches and yielded five runs his last time out, but the hurler was able to bounce back with a scoreless outing Friday. Although the southpaw had a ghastly 9.28 ERA through July, he's shown great improvement at run prevention recently. Over his last 11.1 innings, Wolfram has overcome a 1.50 WHIP to post a 0.79 ERA and 15:3 K:BB.

  • Wenceel Perez RF | DET

Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Reaches three times, scores in loss

Perez went 1-for-2 with two walks and a run scored in Friday's 7-5 loss to the White Sox.

Perez extended his hitting streak to six games, during which time he's batting .391 with a home run, three runs scored and five RBI. The 25-year-old outfielder seems to be blossoming in his second MLB season, and he's now sporting an .804 OPS across 81 games overall. Perez had a .683 OPS in 112 regular-season games as a rookie in 2024.

  • Bailey Horn P | DET

Tigers' Bailey Horn: Takes first loss

Horn (0-1) allowed a run in an inning of relief to take the loss Friday against the White Sox. He struck out one.

Horn allowed a run for just the second time in seven MLB appearances this season, which saddled him with his first loss as well. The 27-year-old lefty has spent most of the year with Triple-A Toledo, and while he's generally pitched well when given a chance by the Tigers, he doesn't have a particularly fantasy-friendly role at the moment.

  • Chris Martin RP | TEX

Rangers' Chris Martin: Saddled with third blown save

Martin was charged with a blown save Friday against Houston, allowing two runs on three hits and no walks in the eighth inning. He struck out one.

Martin took his third blown save of the season, and he served up his first homer since June 24 in Baltimore. The veteran right-hander should remain a setup man for the Rangers in the final weeks of the season, though he hasn't fared particularly well on the mound as of late. Over his last 12.1 innings, Martin has a 5.11 ERA and 1.78 WHIP covering 15 appearances.

  • Jake Burger 1B | TEX

Rangers' Jake Burger: Smashes 13th homer in win

Burger went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run Friday in a 4-3 extra-innings win over the Astros.

The homer was Burger's 13th of the year to extend his hitting streak to five games. The infielder had a .658 OPS as of June 20, though he's performed far better at the plate since then as he tries to salvage a disappointing season. Since the start of July, Burger is batting .324 with six extra-base hits, 15 RBI and 11 runs scored over his last 71 plate appearances to increase his OPS to .703 for the campaign.

  • Royals' Maikel Garcia: Breakout campaign continues

Garcia went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run Friday in a 2-1 win against the Twins.

Garcia smacked homer No. 16 on the year, and he registered his first hits of the month of September. While the speedy infielder had been more of a steals specialist for fantasy managers in past seasons, he's bloomed into a five-category contributor in 2025. Through 577 plate appearances, Garcia is slashing .294/.357/.472 with 55 extra-base hits, 66 RBI, 66 runs scored and 22 stolen bases.

  • Royals' Carlos Estevez: Collects 38th save

Estevez picked up the save Friday against the Twins, allowing no hits and one walk with no strikeouts in a scoreless ninth inning.

Estevez increased his MLB lead in saves with his 38th of the season, also turning in his ninth consecutive scoreless outing. The 32-year-old right-hander has been outstanding all year for the Royals, producing a 2.49 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 52:21 K:BB over 61.1 innings. Estevez has a strong grip on the closer role as the campaign nears an end.

  • Jack Flaherty SP | DET

Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Labors in no-decision

Flaherty did not factor into the decision in Friday's 7-5 loss to the White Sox, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks with two strikeouts over 4.1 innings.

Flaherty threw just 49 of 83 pitches for strikes and allowed runs in four separate innings. It continued an up-and-down second half for the 29-year-old, who has surrendered four or more earned runs in four of his past nine outings while holding opponents to one run or fewer in another four. He'll carry a 4.85 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 171:54 K:BB across 146.2 innings into a road matchup with the Yankees next week.

  • Shane Smith SP | CHW

White Sox's Shane Smith: Strikes out six in win

Smith (5-7) earned the win against the Tigers on Friday, allowing four runs on three hits and two walks with six strikeouts over five innings.

Smith threw just 53 of 91 pitches for strikes but generated an impressive 15 whiffs and received strong support from the White Sox offense. Though he fell short of a third consecutive quality start, the 25-year-old has now completed at least five innings in six straight outings. He'll carry a 3.95 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 118:52 K:BB across 125.1 innings into a home matchup with the Rays next week.
