Tovar went 3-for-4 with a double, a two-run home run and a second run scored in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Mets.

His sixth-inning shot off Stephen Nogosek capped the scoring for the Rockies on the day. Tovar has found a groove at the plate after a tough first few weeks of 2023, and over his last 12 games the 21-year-old shortstop is batting .333 (14-for-42) with four doubles, a triple and both his homers on the year, along with nine runs and nine RBI.

Abrams is not in Saturday's lineup against the Diamondbacks, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Abrams is hitting .323 with one home run and one steal over his last 10 games. Ildemaro Vargas is starting at shortstop and batting ninth.

Perdomo will sit Saturday against southpaw MacKenzie Gore and the Nationals.

13 of Arizona's first 33 games have come against lefties, and Perdomo has sat against every single one. As usual, Nick Ahmed will take over at shortstop in his absence.

Edman will sit Saturday against the Tigers, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Edman started 20 of the Cardinals' first 21 games at shortstop, but his playing time has taken a hit since Paul DeJong was recalled in late April. In 13 games with DeJong on the roster, Edman has started five times at second base and four times at shortstop while finding himself on the bench on four occasions. DeJong starts at shortstop Saturday with Brendan Donovan starting at second base.

Velazquez (undisclosed) was placed on the minor-league 7-day IL on Tuesday, per the Salt Lake Bees' official site.

The exact nature of Velazquez's injury hasn't been clarified, though the issue appears to have occurred on a swing he took in the fifth inning during a game April 28. Velazquez left that contest early and hasn't played since. The shortstop is slashing .182/.316/.348 with two homers, six RBI and five stolen bases over 82 plate appearances with Salt Lake this season.

Volpe went 2-for-5 with a stolen base Friday in a loss to the Rays.

Volpe has been perking up at the plate of late, recording multiple hits in two of his past three contests. He's also swiped three bags over that span, and he's now a perfect 11-for-11 on theft attempts this season. Yankees manager Aaron Boone recently called Volpe "one of the best baserunners" he's ever seen, per Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News, and the rookie is living up to that high praise with his speed and savvy on the basepaths thus far.

Bogaerts went 0-for-3 with two walks, one RBI and two stolen bases in Friday's 5-2 win over the Dodgers.

Bogaerts wasn't able to hit safely Friday, but he drew multiple walks for the sixth time this season. His pair of steals were his first thefts since April 10. The shortstop has gone 11 games without a multi-hit effort, going just 6-for-40 during that slight slump. He's down to a .283/.379/.467 slash line with six home runs, three steals, 14 RBI, 22 runs scored and four doubles through 32 contests in his first year with the Padres.

Baez went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run and a walk in Friday's 5-4 win over the Cardinals.

Baez didn't homer in all of April, but he's now gone deep three times over four games in May. He also has three multi-hit efforts in his last five contests. For the season, the shortstop is slashing .260/.322/.394 with 15 RBI, 14 runs scored and two stolen bases through 115 plate appearances.

Witt is absent from the Royals' lineup for Friday's game against the Athletics.

It's a rare day off for the young infielder. Maikel Garcia will handle shortstop while Witt gets some rest, with Hunter Dozier covering third base.

Shewmake is starting at shortstop and batting ninth Friday against the Orioles.

Shewmake will enter the lineup after being called up from Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday, replacing Vaughn Grissom at shortstop. Grissom has struggled to a .190 average with seven strikeouts over his last six games, so he could slide into a timeshare with Shewmake if the latter performs well in his big-league debut.
