Manager Gabe Kapler said Friday that Luciano (hamstring) has begun playing in instructional league games, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Luciano landed on the minor-league injured list Aug. 13 because of a hamstring strain, but he should be able to return to Triple-A Sacramento within the next week and could potentially get another shot with the Giants before the end of the regular season. The 21-year-old infield prospect went 3-for-11 during a brief cup of coffee with San Francisco in late July.

Crawford is absent from the lineup Friday versus the Rockies.

Paul DeJong will cover shortstop and bat eighth against left-hander Ty Blach. Crawford is slashing just .200/.271/.320 in 281 total plate appearances this year and should continue to sit versus southpaws.

Wendle is not in the lineup Friday against the Phillies.

Jon Berti will start at shortstop and bat eighth with left-hander Cristopher Sanchez taking the mound for Philadelphia. Wendle has an overall .589 OPS on the season and should continue to sit versus southpaws.

Anderson (neck) is starting at shortstop and batting in the leadoff spot Friday against the Tigers.

Neck stiffness caused Anderson to be a late scratch from Wednesday's lineup, but the issue seems to have subsided after an extra day of rest. The 30-year-old shortstop is 4-for-18 with three runs scored since the start of September.

McCoy was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on Friday, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports.

The utility player is the roster casualty as the Blue Jays bring back Bo Bichette from the injured list. McCoy was hitless in two plate appearances during his brief time in the majors.

It's the first day Bichette was eligible to return, and he has rejoined a Blue Jays club that currently sits a half game up on the Rangers for the final wild-card spot in the American League. Bichette did not go out on a rehab assignment, so a little rust is possible, but fantasy managers will be happy to stick him back into their lineups as soon as they're able.

Saggese has been promoted by the Cardinals from Double-A Springfield to Triple-A Memphis, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Acquired from the Rangers in the Jordan Montgomery trade, Saggese sported a blistering .331/.403/.662 slash line with 10 home runs and three stolen bases in 33 games for Springfield to earn the promotion. All told, he boasts a .937 OPS with 25 long balls and 11 steals at the Double-A level this season. Saggese won't turn 22 until April but has set himself up for a potential debut at some point next season if he continues to impress.

Winn is absent from the lineup for Friday's game in Cincinnati, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

It will be the third day off for Winn since he was promoted back on Aug. 18. He has managed just a .430 OPS in his first 17 major-league games, although he did hit his first homer earlier this week. Tommy Edman will get a start at shortstop Friday.

Turner was activated from the paternity leave list Thursday.

Turner will be re-inserted into the lineup ahead of their weekend series at home against the Marlins. The star shortstop comes into action Friday on quite a heater, having homered seven times over his last seven games.

Perdomo started at third base and went 1-for-4 with a run scored in Thursday's 6-2 win over the Cubs.

Perdomo made his second start of the season at third base, as shortstop prospect Jordan Lawlar was promoted for his MLB debut. The switch-hitting Perdomo had been the primary starter at shortstop against right-handers. If the Diamondbacks continue to align as they did Thursday, it's likely Perdomo will qualify as a corner infielder next season. as he's already played 13 games total at third base so far in 2023.
