  • Javier Baez SS | DET

Tigers' Javier Baez: Hits key home run Thursday

Baez went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Thursday's 3-0 win over the Guardians.

Baez's second-inning blast against Cleveland starter Gavin Williams provided all the offense in the game for both teams. It was just the second long ball of the season for the shortstop, who has been scuffling mightily with a .177 average and .460 OPS. As further evidence of his current status, Baez batted ninth for the Tigers. It's not what you'd expect from a $140 million player, and Baez doesn't warrant fantasy attention until he can display a sustained level of positive performance, which doesn't seem likely this year.

  • Nick Ahmed SS | TEX

Dodgers' Nick Ahmed: Clubs first homer with LA

Ahmed went 2-for-4 with a solo home run during Thursday's 6-4 win over the Giants.

Ahmed inked a major-league deal with the Dodgers on Wednesday and went 1-for-3 during his debut with Los Angeles. In his second game Thursday, Ahmed lifted a go-ahead home run in the eighth inning against his former team. Before being released by the Giants on July 11, Ahmed logged a .232 average with one homer, 15 RBI and 13 runs in 172 plate appearances.

  • Ha-seong Kim 2B | ATL

Padres' Ha-Seong Kim: Plates three runs Thursday

Kim went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI in Thursday's 3-0 win over Washington.

Kim cleared the bases with a first-inning double to give San Diego a 3-0 lead. That ended up being the final score, as the Padres' offense went dormant the rest of the way and Dylan Cease shut down the Nationals with his first career no-hitter. For Kim, the performance snapped a string of 11 straight contests without a run batted in. In fact, his three RBI were as many as he had collected over his previous 21 games combined.

  • Brett Wisely 2B | ATL

Giants' Brett Wisely: Picks up second steal

Wisely went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Wednesday's 8-3 win over the Dodgers.

Wisely has offered little production in July with no home runs, three RBI, two runs scored and one steal on three attempts over 17 games. The infielder also has a 2:17 BB:K this month. The emergence of Tyler Fitzgerald at shortstop has left Wisely to compete with Thairo Estrada for playing time at second base, a situation where Wisely has the platoon advantage.

  • Bobby Witt SS | KC

Royals' Bobby Witt: Reaches four times in loss

Witt went 3-for-4 with a walk and a run scored in Wednesday's 8-6 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Witt took a one-day break from cranking out three-hit efforts Tuesday, then got right back to it Wednesday with his fifth such game in six contests since the All-Star break. The shortstop entered the break hitting .323 on the year and has lifted that already stellar mark to .344 with his recent surge. He's posted a .983 OPS, 18 home runs, 23 stolen bases, 70 RBI, 83 runs scored, 28 doubles and 10 triples as one of the best five-category producers this season.

  • Jose Caballero 2B | NYY

Rays' Jose Caballero: On bench in series finale

Caballero is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Blue Jays.

Caballero has moved back into a near-everyday role in the Tampa Bay infield since Yandy Diaz (personal) was placed on the restricted list Saturday. Though he'll cede his spot in the lineup to Amed Rosario in the series finale in Toronto, Caballero started in each of the Rays' previous six contests, going 4-for-22 with a home run, a stolen base, a walk, two RBI and two runs.

  • Paul DeJong SS | DET

White Sox's Paul DeJong: Absent from lineup

DeJong is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest versus the Rangers.

DeJong will sit out Thursday's matinee after starting each of the first three games of the series. Nick Senzel will occupy third base for the White Sox.

  • Luis Almeyda SS | BAL

Orioles' Luis Almeyda: Dealing with shoulder issue

Almedya was removed from his game Thursday in the rookie-level Florida Complex League due to right shoulder discomfort, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Almeyda's 2023 season was cut short after he required surgery on his left shoulder last August, but he's now dealing with an injury to the other shoulder. The Orioles will likely evaluate Almeyda over the next few days before providing further clarity on the severity of his injury. Heading into Thursday, Almeyda had produced a .201/.339/.318 slash line with five home runs and 12 stolen bases across 189 plate appearances in the FCL on the season.

  • Ezequiel Tovar SS | COL

Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Extends hitting streak

Tovar went 3-for-6 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored Wednesday against the Red Sox.

Tovar continued his hot stretch at the plate. He homered in the first inning and has gone deep five times in his last six starts. Tovar also has an 11-game hitting streak -- six of which have come on the road -- during which he's gone 22-for-51 with 12 RBI and 10 runs scored.

  • Corey Seager SS | TEX

Rangers' Corey Seager: Homer, four hits in win

Seager went 4-for-5 with a double, a homer and three runs scored in Wednesday's win over the White Sox.

Seager got the Rangers on the board with a solo shot off Chris Flexen in the first inning and then came around to score again in the fifth on an Adolis Garcia double to tie the game at 2-2. The shortstop went on to tally four hits on the night, something he hadn't done since March 30 against the Cubs, raising his average to .269 on the season and .311 in the month of July. Seager was just 1-for-14 since the All-Star break heading into Wednesday's contest, while the long ball was his fourth this month. The three runs scored also marked a season high for the veteran infielder.
