  • Red Sox's Xander Bogaerts: On bench Sunday

Bogaerts is not starting Sunday's game against the White Sox, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

It appears to be a regular day off for Bogaerts, who's gone 2-for-6 with three walks in two games since returning from the COVID-19 injured list. Jose Iglesias is starting at shortstop and batting ninth Sunday.

  • Jose Barrero SS | BAL

Reds' Jose Barrero: Sore following collision

Barrero won't start Sunday against St. Louis, as he's still sore after exiting Saturday's game following a collision with teammate Tyler Naquin, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

The exact nature and severity of Barrero's injury is unclear, but he's yet to be diagnosed with anything other than soreness. Eugenio Suarez starts at shortstop in his absence.

  • Yankees' Andrew Velazquez: Sent to minors

The Yankees optioned Velazquez to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday.

The shortstop cedes his roster spot to Sunday's spot starter Clarke Schmidt. Velazquez enjoyed some nice games at the plate, but his .234/.246/.375 slash line in 65 plate appearances with the Yankees suggests he may have seen his final big-league action of 2021.

  • Bo Bichette 3B | NYM

Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Blasts 23rd home run

Bichette went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Saturday's 11-2 win in Game 2 of the doubleheader against the Orioles.

Bichette slammed a two-run homer in the seventh inning off Keegan Akin, sparking an 11-run inning. He ended up scoring twice in that inning. The shortstop has eight hits and two home runs in his last four games. He is slashing .292/.342/.463 with 23 long balls, 87 RBI, 107 runs and 22 steals in 608 plate appearances for the season.

Rays' Joey Wendle: Pops homer No. 10

Wendle went 2-for-4 with a triple, a solo home run and a second run scored in Saturday's 7-2 win over the Tigers.

He took Bryan Garcia deep to lead off the fourth inning, giving the Rays a 4-1 lead at that point. Wendle is slashing .345/.387/.586 through nine games to begin September, and he's already established new career highs with 10 homers and 65 runs on the season.

  • Paul DeJong SS | DET

Cardinals' Paul DeJong: Snaps power drought in win

DeJong went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's 6-4 win over the Reds.

DeJong helped turn around an early deficit by putting St. Louis on the board with a 431-foot solo shot in the third inning. The long ball was his first in nearly a month, with his previous homer coming Aug. 12 against Pittsburgh. It has been a frustrating campaign overall for DeJong, who has slugged 17 homers but is slashing a meager .199/.291/.389 over 100 games.

  • Javier Baez SS | DET

Mets' Javier Baez: Homers, swipes bag in loss

Baez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, two additional runs scored, a walk and a stolen base in Saturday's 8-7 loss to the Yankees.

Baez homered off Corey Kluber in the third inning to cut the Mets' deficit to one run. In addition, he stole second base in the second inning. It marks the second time in his last three games that he homered and stole a base. Since joining the Mets, Baez is slashing .299/.359/.589 with eight long balls, 16 RBI, 24 runs and four steals in 115 plate appearances.

  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Rockies' Trevor Story: Launches another homer

Story went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 6-1 loss to Philadelphia.

Story produced Colorado's lone run with his sixth-inning blast off Philadelphia starter Zack Wheeler. It's the third time in five games Story has swatted a long ball, and he's added a triple and a double during a modest five-game hitting streak. The shortstop is slashing .249/.327/.476 with 21 homers, 68 RBI, 77 runs scored and 18 stolen bases in 126 contests.

  • Jorge Mateo SS | TB

Orioles' Jorge Mateo: Returns to lineup

Mateo (undisclosed) is starting the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Blue Jays.

Mateo remained out of the lineup for Saturday's matinee as he continued to deal with soreness, but he'll start at shortstop and bat sixth in the nightcap. He went 3-for-17 with two RBI, a stolen base and a walk in the five appearances prior to his absence.

  • Giants' Brandon Crawford: Exits with wrist soreness

Crawford left Saturday's win over the Cubs with wrist soreness, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Crawford was replaced defensively in the bottom of the fifth inning Saturday, and manager Gabe Kapler revealed after the game that the shortstop is dealing with a wrist issue. He's considered day-to-day and will be evaluated ahead of Sunday's series finale against the Cubs. Prior to his departure, the 34-year-old went 1-for-1 with two runs and two walks.
