  • Aledmys Diaz 1B | HOU

Cardinals' Aledmys Diaz: Out of lineup Tuesday

Diaz (face) is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against Kansas City, Josh Vernier of 610 Sports Radio reports.

Diaz fouled a ball off his face in the ninth inning of Monday's game and although the team does not think he has a fracture, he'll likely miss a game or two as the swelling subsides. Greg Garcia, who's making his fifth start at shortstop this season, looks to see an uptick in playing time while Diaz is sidelined.

  • Trea Turner SS | PHI

Nationals' Trea Turner: Plays center field for Triple-A Syracuse on Monday

Turner got the start in center field for Triple-A Syracuse on Monday, The Washington Post reports.

He went an uncharacteristic 0-for-3 with three strikeouts and a walk, but his focus was likely in the field rather than at the plate as he'd never played the outfield before as a pro. The Nationals could desperately use Turner's on-base skills at the top of their lineup, but Danny Espinosa has played just well enough at shortstop to keep the job and Daniel Murphy isn't budging from second base, so the team is getting creative as they try to find a spot in the lineup for him. Current Nats center field options Ben Revere and Michael Taylor have also combined for an unsightly .251 OBP and 566 OPS. Having to adjust to a new defensive position could delay Turner's promotion even further however, so at this point don't expect to see him in Washington until after the All-Star break at least.

Cardinals' Aledmys Diaz: Goes to hospital for additional tests

Diaz (face) will head to the hospital Monday night for additional tests, but the team does not expect an orbital bone fracture, Jennifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.

This appears to be positive news for Diaz, as an orbital bone fracture would likely require missing extended time. The rookie left Monday's game against Kansas City after fouling a pitch off his face.

Cardinals' Aledmys Diaz: Leaves game after fouling ball off face

Diaz left Monday's game against Kansas City in the ninth inning after fouling a ball off his face, FOX Sports Midwest reports.

Diaz was in the middle of his fourth at-bat when the accident occurred. Fortunately, the rookie was able to walk off the field under his own power and should be considered day-to-day. If Diaz is forced to miss time, Greg Garcia could be the benefactor of increased playing time at shortstop.

  • Nick Ahmed SS | TEX

Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: Starts Monday's contest

Ahemd is in the lineup Monday against the Phillies.

With Ahmed starting at shortstop, Jean Segura will move over to second base and Brandon Drury will have the night off. Ahmed's performance has been underwhelming as of late, as he's hitting just .214 over the last 14 days.

  • Giants' Brandon Crawford: Out of Monday's lineup

Crawford is out of the lineup for Monday's contest against the Athletics.

Crawford will have the night to rest and will be replaced by Ramiro Pena. Pena has played well as of late, having gone 9-for-22 in the last seven days. Crawford may return to the lineup for Tuesday's outing against Oakland when the Giants face the right-handed Kendall Graveman.

  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Rockies' Trevor Story: Out of Monday's lineup

Story (finger) is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Blue Jays, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports.

Story will sit out after being hit by a pitch in the ninth inning of Sunday's game. The 23-year-old is in the middle of a breakout season, hiting .271 with 19 home runs, 50 RBI and 47 runs, but will continue to be day-to-day while he rests his finger.

  • Corey Seager SS | TEX

Dodgers' Corey Seager: Day off Monday

Seager is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Pirates, according to David Vassegh of AM 570 LA reports.

Seager is riding a 10-game hitting streak, but he has not had a day off since June 8, so manager Dave Roberts decided to give him one Monday. Chris Taylor will get the start at shortstop in Seager's place.

  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Rockies' Trevor Story: Bruises finger late in game

An X-ray on Story's right middle finger did not reveal any broken bones after Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports.

Story was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning, eventually coming around to score on Mark Reynolds' walk-off home run. The rookie slugger may miss time despite getting some good news from the X-ray, as his finger is reportedly "sore and swollen". Story went 2-for-2 with a home run and two walks in Sunday's game, improving his batting line to .271/.339/.559 in the process. The Rockies may need a Monday call-up to help with depth in the middle infield, as starting second Daniel LeMahieu (bruised knee) was also injured Sunday.

  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Rockies' Trevor Story: Batting cleanup Sunday

Story will bat cleanup for the first time this season Sunday against the Diamondbacks, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports.

Story has hit primarily out of the five-spot since get usurped by DJ LeMahieu for the second spot in the order at the end of May. Now, he'll get an opportunity to bat cleanup, sandwiched between RBI machines Nolan Arenado and Carlos Gonzalez. It's unclear if manager Walt Weiss plans to continue with this lineup after Sunday, but a strong performance from Story during the afternoon contest could only help his case.
