Braves' Dansby Swanson: Stays hot at Double-A

Swanson collected two more hits on Tuesday, giving him 11 hits in his last 21 at bats for Double-A Mississippi.

Swanson and teammate Ozzie Albies have both been tearing the cover off the ball since they were paired together at Double-A on June 30. Albies has been playing second base while Swanson has been the primary shortstop. These two will most likely be working together in the minors until they get called up to the majors at some point in 2017.

  • Javier Baez SS | DET

Cubs' Javier Baez: Not in Wednesday's lineup

Baez is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Reds.

Baez has started three straight games for the Cubs, but will take a seat Wednesday afternoon for a matchup against Anthony DeSclafani. With Tommy La Stella (hamstring) now back from the DL, another threat for infield reps is now on the roster, though it's too early to tell if this will significantly cut into the playing time of Baez.

Cubs' Javier Baez: Smacks ninth homer of year Tuesday

Baez went 1-for-3 with a solo homer and a walk Tuesday against the Reds.

Baez's ninth blast of the year got the Cubs on the board in the third inning of a game they'd go on to lose. He's now hit safely in eight of his last nine games, and he's slashing .272/.313/.460 this season.

  • Nick Ahmed SS | TEX

Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: Reinstated from paternity list

Ahmed was reinstated from the paternity list prior to Monday's matchup against the Padres.

Ahmed landed on the paternity list Saturday, and during his absence, Jean Segura moved over to shortstop while Phil Gosselin picked up a few starts at the keystone. Ahmed has provided a positive defensive WAR through 78 games this season, but his .599 OPS leaves much to be desired. As a result, he'll likely continue to be pressed by Gosselin for playing time.

  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Rockies' Trevor Story: Returns to action Monday

Story (finger) is back in the lineup Monday against the Giants, MLB.com's Thomas Harding reports.

Story has given way to Cristhian Adames at shortstop for four straight games, but his bruised fingers appears healthy enough for the emerging star to return to action Monday. He'll bat fifth in the order, following the one-two punch of Nolan Arenado and Carlos Gonzalez.

  • Javier Baez SS | DET

Cubs' Javier Baez: Three hits in Sunday's loss

Baez went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Sunday's blowout loss to the Mets.

He was the only Cubs starter to record multiple hits Sunday as Noah Syndergaard stifled the rest of the lineup for seven innings. Baez is now hitting a solid .275/.314/.456 on the season as he looks to finally establish himself as a fixture on the North Side.

  • Aledmys Diaz 1B | HOU

Cardinals' Aledmys Diaz: Smashes 11th homer of year Sunday

Diaz went 1-for-3 with a solo homer and two walks Sunday against the Brewers.

Diaz left the yard for the 11th time this year in the first inning to give the Cardinals an early lead in a game they'd go on to win. After hitting safely in 10 of his last 11 games, he's slashing .317/.377/.530 on the season.

  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Rockies' Trevor Story: Remains out of the lineup Sunday

Story (finger) remains out of the lineup Sunday against the Dodgers.

Story will be held out of the starting lineup for the fourth straight game, once again giving way to Cristhian Adames at shortstop. The team remains optimistic Story can avoid the DL, but he's far from a lock to start Monday's series opener against the Giants.

  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Rockies' Trevor Story: Out of lineup Saturday

Story (finger) is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Dodgers.

Cristhian Adames will get another start at shortstop Saturday while Story continues to rest his injured finger. Saturday will mark Story's third consecutive game out of the lineup, but there is still no indication at this point that he'll require a stint on the DL. Adames figures to continue to serve as the Colorado shortstop while Story is sidelined.

  • Nick Ahmed SS | TEX

Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: Plans to return Monday

Ahmed (paternity) plans on returning to the team for Monday's game against the Padres, Jody Jackson of FOX Sports Arizona reports.

Ahmed was placed on the paternity list earlier Saturday, and MLB rules state that he's allowed to miss up to three games while he's away from the team. However, it seems Ahmed intends to come back a day early instead of waiting the full three games. Jean Segura will take over at shortstop Saturday and could do so again for the series finale against the Giants, but Ahmed figures to be back in time for Monday's series opener against San Diego.
