  • Nick Ahmed SS | TEX

Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: Dealing with sore shoulder

Ahmed's recent absence from the starting lineup is due to a sore right shoulder.

Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said the issue is "very typical for this time of the year," while acknowledging Ahmed has been available if needed. Josh Rojas and Ildemaro Vargas have filled in at shortstop while Ahmed gets time off.

  • Nick Ahmed SS | TEX

Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: Still absent Tuesday

Ahmed is once again out of the lineup Tuesday versus the Braves.

The 31-year-old is absent from the lineup for the fourth consecutive game, while still having no mention of injury. Ildemaro Vargas makes the start at shortstop and will bat eighth.

  • Miguel Rojas SS | LAD

Marlins' Miguel Rojas: Returns to lineup

Rojas (knee) is starting Tuesday's game against the Nationals.

Rojas was held out of the lineup the last two games due to a left knee contusion, but he went 0-for-1 with an RBI on Monday. He'll start at shortstop and lead off.

  • Marco Luciano SS | NYY

Giants' Marco Luciano: Quiet finish to season

Luciano finished the regular season at High-A Eugene by hitting .217/.283/.295 with one home run across 36 games.

He struck out in a disturbing 37.2 percent of his plate appearances following his promotion from Low-A, where he turned in much better numbers -- a .278/.373/.556 line with 18 homers, five steals, 57 RBI and 52 runs (as well as a far more palatable 22.1 percent strikeout rate) across 70 contests. Although he certainly didn't look good in High-A, it's worth noting that Luciano just turned 20 years old this month and is still considered one of the most tooled-up prospects in the minors. There's no reason to panic about his long-term outlook, but the pressure will be on Luciano next season to turn in a far better performance when he (presumably) repeats the High-A level.

  • Nick Ahmed SS | TEX

Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: Out again Monday

Ahmed isn't in the starting lineup for Monday's game against Atlanta.

Ahmed hasn't seen the field since Sept. 17, but there's been no word of an injury. Josh Rojas draws the start at shortstop, allowing Ildemaro Vargas to get an opportunity at the hot corner.

  • Willy Adames SS | SF

Brewers' Willy Adames: Officially reinstated Monday

Adames (quadriceps) was activated from the 10-day injured list Monday.

The 26-year-old participated in pregame workouts over the weekend, which proved to be the final hurdle before being cleared to return from the injured list. Adames should reclaim the starting role at shortstop after missing the past two-plus weeks, but he could also receive more regular off days over the final two weeks of the season to help manage his return since the Milwaukee's playoff seeding is relatively secure.

  • Luke Williams SS | ATL

Phillies' Luke Williams: Returns from injured list

Williams was activated off the COVID-19 injured list Monday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

Williams has been out since testing positive for coronavirus in late August. He's been cleared to return after a lengthy 10-game rehab assignment in which he struggled to a .351 OPS. He'll fill a bench role for the Phillies down the stretch, as his .253/.324/.326 slash line through 105 plate appearances in his rookie season makes him ill-suited for everyday at-bats.

  • Jon Berti 3B | CHC

Marlins' Jon Berti: Resumes baseball activities

Berti (concussion) has resumed taking grounders and hitting in the cage, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Berti has been sidelined with a concussion since July 23, but he's participating in some activities nearly two months later. It's not yet clear whether he'll be able to return during the 2021 campaign with just under two weeks left in the regular season.

  • Miguel Rojas SS | LAD

Marlins' Miguel Rojas: Dealing with left knee contusion

Rojas isn't starting Monday's game against the Nationals due to a left knee contusion, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Rojas is on the bench for a second straight game, and manager Don Mattingly revealed before Monday's contest that the shortstop is dealing with a knee injury. Whether he's available off the bench remains to be seen, but he's currently considered day-to-day.

  • Miguel Rojas SS | LAD

Marlins' Miguel Rojas: Not starting Monday

Rojas isn't in the lineup for Monday's game against the Nationals.

Rojas has gone 3-for-13 with two RBI and two strikeouts across his last three appearances, and he'll be out of the lineup for a second straight game. Jazz Chisholm will shift to shortstop while Joe Panik starts at second base.
