Xander Bogaerts SS | SD
Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Still managing wrist issue
Padres manager Bob Melvin told MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM on Tuesday that he believes Bogaerts (wrist) will be able to avoid the injured list.
Bogaerts was held out of the starting lineup Saturday at Yankee Stadium due to a lingering wrist issue and then went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in his return to action Sunday. The shortstop has struggled to a .528 OPS so far in May after posting a stellar .914 OPS in the opening month of the 2023 campaign. More days off may be coming as Bogaerts and the Padres try to manage the wrist discomfort, though it sounds like he should be able to remain on the active roster.

Jeter Downs SS | NYY
Nationals' Jeter Downs: Sidelined with injury
Triple-A Rochester placed Downs on its 7-day injured list May 14 with an unspecified injury.
After Washington optioned him back to the minors May 3, Downs appeared in just seven games for Rochester before going down with an injury that has now sidelined him for two weeks. The infielder will likely need to get healthy and turn in a productive stretch at Rochester before he gets another call-up to the big leagues.

Tucupita Marcano 2B | SD
Pirates' Tucupita Marcano: Getting look in leadoff spot
Marcano went 3-for-4 with two doubles Monday against the Giants.
Marcano hit atop the Pirates order for the second consecutive game against a right-handed pitcher and has now gone 4-for-8 in that small sample. It's unclear if he'll continue to have a chance in the role as the team has cycled through a number of different options in recent weeks. Marcano has taken over the strong-side platoon role at shortstop and seized the opportunity by generating three multi-hit games in his last five starts.

Ezequiel Tovar SS | COL
Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Cutting strikeout rate
Tovar went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored Monday against the Diamondbacks.
Tovar delivered a two-RBI double in the second inning and now has at least one hit in nine of his last 10 starts. He's hitting .324 in that span, and just as impressive, has struck out only 18.9 percent of the time. His .233/.278/.369 season slash line still leaves plenty to be desired, but Tovar continues to show signs of improvement at the plate.

Brandon Crawford SS | STL
Giants' Brandon Crawford: Posts three-hit effort
Crawford went 3-for-3 with a double, a walk, one RBI and two runs scored in Monday's 14-4 win over the Pirates.
Crawford's produced just three multi-hit efforts in 31 contests, and this was his first since his return from a calf injury. The shortstop has increasingly found himself on the bench -- he sat out three games in a row, all against right-handers, from May 25-27. The lefty hitter should have a clearer path to playing time while Thairo Estrada (wrist) is on the injured list, as it opens up the opportunity for rookie Casey Schmitt to start at second base. A drop in playing time for Crawford is justified, as he's still slashing a paltry .202/.288/.364 with four home runs, 13 RBI, nine runs scored, three stolen bases and four doubles this year even after Monday's big game.

Casey Schmitt LF | SF
Giants' Casey Schmitt: Three more hits Monday
Schmitt (ankle) went 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored in Monday's 14-4 win over the Pirates.
Schmitt was given Sunday off to recover from a minor ankle issue. He returned to the lineup with his third multi-hit effort in his last five games, and the second three-hit game of his young career. Monday gave fans and fantasy managers a glimpse to what the Giants' infield sans Thairo Estrada (wrist) may look like versus southpaws, with Schmitt at second base, J.D. Davis at third and Brandon Crawford at shortstop, while Brett Wisely hit the bench. Schmitt may see more time at the keystone in the near term if Crawford resumes a starting role at shortstop. Schmitt is slashing .342/.351/.500 with two home runs, two stolen bases, 15 RBI and 12 runs scored through his first 20 major-league contests.

Casey Schmitt LF | SF
Giants' Casey Schmitt: Back in lineup Monday
Schmitt (ankle) will start at second base and bat fifth Monday against the Pirates.
Schmitt sat out Sunday's loss to the Brewers after tweaking his ankle a day earlier, but he's feeling well enough to give it a go for the start of San Francisco's homestand. The rookie made his last three starts at shortstop, but he'll give way to Brandon Crawford on Monday while moving back to the keystone.

Jacob Amaya SS | ARI
Marlins' Jacob Amaya: Power surge at Triple-A
Amaya has hit safely in five straight games for Triple-A Jacksonville, going 11-for-20 (.550) with a double, four home runs and 12 RBI.
The 24-year-old shortstop missed about a week of action after getting hit by a pitch May 16, but since returning to the Jumbo Shrimp lineup, Amaya has been on a tear. He's now slashing .297/.367/.494 on the season, a sharp contrast to the .587 OPS that Miami shortstops have produced this season -- the second-worst mark in MLB, ahead of only the .573 OPS generated by Oakland shortstops. While he's not viewed as a top prospect, Amaya's big-league debut seems like it should be coming sooner rather than later.

Matt McLain 2B | CIN
Reds' Matt McLain: Four more hits in win
McLain went 4-for-5 with a double, an RBI, a run scored and a steal in Sunday's win over the Cubs.
McLain capped off his big week with a bang, tallying multiple hits for the third straight game while also notching his first big league steal. Over the last seven games, the 23-year-old has gone 15-for-31 with two homers, seven RBI, nine runs and a 3:6 BB:K. McClain has strictly hit out of the two spot across 12 starts thus far and is contributing to what is becoming a dangerous hitting trio at the top of the order with Jonathan India and Spencer Steer.

Geraldo Perdomo SS | ARI
Diamondbacks' Geraldo Perdomo: Better hitter this year
Perdomo went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Sunday's 4-2 win over Boston.
Perdomo led off the second inning by turning on a Tanner Houck four-seamer for his fifth home run. Perdomo's average against four-seam fastballs thus far is .362 compared to the .168 average he had as a rookie in 2022. The shortstop is a much better hitter overall his second time through MLB. Perdomo's slashing .304/.403/.522 through 41 games compared to the .214/.333/.274 line he had at this point during his rookie year.
