Wendle (intercostal) did cage work and fielded grounders Friday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Wendle is finally making progress from the right intercostal strain that sent him to the injured list back on April 4, and he appears on track to return to the Marlins' active roster sometime next week. Jon Berti has been drawing most of the starts at shortstop in his absence.

Tovar isn't in the Rockies' lineup Friday against the Phillies.

Tovar holds just a .488 OPS on the year, putting him at risk of losing his everyday role at shortstop. Alan Trejo will start in Tovar's place Friday and bat ninth.

Alexander was placed on the 7-day injured list April 14 at Triple-A Reno with a broken right thumb, Michael McDermott of SI.com reports.

Alexander sustained the injury in an April 13 game, when he was hit by a pitch in the bill of the helmet before the ball ricocheted into his thumb. The shortstop is expected to be sidelined for a minimum of six weeks. The injury is a tough break for the 23-year-old, who was making a strong early case for a promotion to the big leagues by submitting a 1.410 OPS and 8:6 BB:K through his first nine games with Reno.

Bogaerts went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and two runs scored in Thursday's 7-5 victory over the Diamondbacks.

Bogaerts is red hot to start off his Padres career, slashing .350/.418/.575 through 21 games. The veteran shortstop now has five home runs and is well on pace to clear his total of 15 from last season.

Tovar went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts Thursday against the Phillies.

Tovar turned in his fifth hitless performance in his last seven games, and he's also struck out multiple times in three of those contests. He's only been out of the lineup twice in 20 matchups this season, so the Rockies are giving him time to work through his struggles at the plate. Particularly given Tovar's lack of experience in the upper minors, it's not overly surprising that he's had to make a significant adjustment to major-league pitching. Even so, he'll have to improve on his .180/.242/.246 line to maintain an everyday role for the rest of the campaign.

Swanson went 0-for-2 but drew three walks and scored three runs in Wednesday's 12-2 win over the Athletics.

Swanson showed a good eye at the plate and parlayed that into an effective day. He's been a good tablesetter for the Cubs, as he now has 15 runs scored in 16 games. Swanson scored a career-high 99 runs last season with Atlanta, and at this rate, he looks primed to surpass that figure if he stays healthy. The shortstop is also batting a career-best .333.

Turner went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, an RBI double, a steal and an additional run scored in Wednesday's win over the White Sox.

Turner led off the game with a solo home run, his first of the season. He added a single in the third and stole second before coming around to score on a Nick Castellanos RBI single. In the fourth, the shortstop extended Philadelphia's lead to 5-2 with an RBI double. Through 19 games, Turner has six extra-base hits, six RBI and four steals.

Edman went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, a homer, five RBI and three runs scored in Wednesday's 14-5 victory over the Diamondbacks.

Edman doubled in his first at-bat and came around to score on a Dylan Carlson RBI double. The shortstop walked in his second plate appearance and proceed to hit a three-run homer in the third to give the Cardinals a 7-3 lead. In the fifth, Edman smoked a two-run triple and once again scored on a knock from Carlson. Coming into the contest, Edman had just two extra-base hits and two RBI through 67 plate appearances.

The Dodgers placed Rojas (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports.

The shortstop will miss some time after injuring his hamstring in Tuesday's 5-0 win over the Mets. Rojas has struggled with a .200 on-base percentage in 35 plate appearances this season, but his absence looms large with Gavin Lux (knee) already out for the season and Chris Taylor (side) still day-to-day. Luke Williams will draw the start at shortstop in Wednesday's series finale with New York, but Mookie Betts (personal) could get a look at the position Thursday or Friday against the Cubs once he's cleared to return from the paternity list.

The Dodgers placed Rojas on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a left hamstring strain.

Rojas will miss at least 10 days while dealing with the hamstring strain. The infielder is replaced on the 26-man roster by Yonny Hernandez. Because of injuries Rojas has been limited to 35 plate appearances over 11 games and slashed .125/.200/.156 in those opportunities.
