  • Sonny Gray SP | BOS

Cardinals' Sonny Gray: St. Louis-Atlanta postponed Friday

Gray and the Cardinals won't face Atlanta on Friday, as the game was postponed due to inclement weather.

Friday's contest will be made up as part of a doubleheader Saturday, and Gray will get the nod to start the nightcap, per John Denton of MLB.com. The 34-year-old righty owns a 3.34 ERA and 1.05 WHIP through 99.2 innings on the season, though he has given up 11 earned runs over 16.1 innings across his last three starts.

  • Dodgers' Walker Buehler: Facing hitters soon

Buehler (hip) will face hitters this weekend and then will return to Los Angeles to work with the Dodgers' coaching staff, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Buehler appears to be fully recovered from the right hip inflammation that forced him to the injured list June 19, but his return date remains murky. He's been continuing his throwing program at a private pitching facility, making his return to Los Angeles noteworthy. Once he's back with the team, there should be more clarity on when Buehler will be activated.

  • Robbie Ray SP | SF

Giants' Robbie Ray: Making another rehab start

Ray (elbow) will throw five innings in a rehab start with Triple-A Sacramento on Friday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Friday's outing is likely Ray's final rehab start before being reinstated from the injured list. If that's the case, the veteran southpaw could pitch during a four-game road series against the Dodgers early next week. Hayden Birdsong is the most likely candidate to lose their rotation spot once Ray is activated, although the team could opt to use a six-man rotation temporarily considering the Giants have a stretch of 11 games in 10 days coming out of the All-Star break.

  • Tyler Glasnow SP | LAD

Dodgers' Tyler Glasnow: Could return Wednesday

After throwing a simulated game Friday at Dodger Stadium, Glasnow (back) said that he thinks he will start Wednesday against the Giants, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.

Per Stephen, Glasnow threw 58 pitches across three simulated innings to Jason Heyward (knee), Gavin Lux and James Outman, and the 31-year-old righty doesn't appear to need a rehab assignment prior to returning to the Dodgers' rotation. Before landing on the 15-day injured list July 9 due to lower back tightness, Glasnow was 8-5 over 18 starts with a 3.47 ERA and 0.93 WHIP across 109 innings.

  • Ian Anderson RP | ATL

Braves' Ian Anderson: Rehab transferred to Triple-A

Anderson (elbow) will start for Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

Saturday's outing will be Anderson's first at the Triple-A level and the fifth start of his rehab stint. The 26-year-old has been recovering from Tommy John surgery he underwent in April 2023 and worked up to 46 pitches in his last rehab outing. Anderson will likely only require one or two more starts before being activated, although it's not clear if Atlanta has a spot for him in the big-league rotation.

  • Tyler Glasnow SP | LAD

Dodgers' Tyler Glasnow: Faced hitters Friday

Glasnow (back) threw a simulated game Friday at Dodger Stadium, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.

Glasnow faced hitters for the first time since being placed on the injured list July 9 due to lower back pain, throwing roughly 60 pitches per Stephen. The 30-year-old will become eligible to return from the IL early next week, and he could start during a four-game series against the Giants that begins Monday. Glasnow has posted a 3.47 ERA with a 143:29 K:BB across 109 innings this season.

  • Rockies' Antonio Senzatela: To face hitters soon

Senzatela (elbow) completed a bullpen session Friday and is nearing a live batting practice session, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports.

Senzatela has been working his way back from Tommy John surgery performed last July. The right-hander will likely throw multiple BP sessions before being sent out on a rehab assignment. A timeline for his return should become clearer once he's ready for game action.

  • Justin Steele SP | CHC

Cubs' Justin Steele: Stumbles vs. Arizona

Steele (2-4) took the loss Friday against the Diamondbacks, allowing five runs on nine hits and two walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out six.

It was a tough start to the second half for Steele, who allowed a season-high nine hits en route to his first loss since June 7. The left-hander delivered seven straight quality starts prior to the All-Star break, posting a stellar 1.65 ERA in that span (49 innings). Steele's ERA now sits at 3.07 with a 1.02 WHIP and 87:20 K:BB across 15 starts (91 innings) this season. He'll look to get back on track in his next outing, currently scheduled for next week at home against Milwaukee.

  • Ryne Nelson SP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Ryne Nelson: Excellent in seventh win

Nelson (7-6) earned the win Friday over the Cubs, allowing one run on three hits and two walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out nine.

It was an impressive showing from Nelson, who blanked the Cubs through the first five innings before allowing a lone run in the sixth while racking up a career-high nine strikeouts. The 26-year-old has been solid of late, holding opponents to three runs or fewer in each of his last four starts and posting a 2.22 ERA in that span (24.1 innings). Overall, his ERA sits at 4.78 this season with a 1.39 WHIP and 68:22 K:BB across 92.1 innings. Nelson's currently lined up for a road matchup with the Royals in his next outing.

  • Jose Quintana SP | COL

Mets' Jose Quintana: Next start pushed back

Quintana won't start as scheduled Saturday versus the Marlins due to an illness and is now lined up to take the hill Tuesday versus the Yankees on the road, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Manager Carlos Mendoza said Quintana is currently dealing with a fever, so he'll stay away from the team for the next few days and will take the hill for the Mets' fifth game out of the All-Star break, assuming his condition doesn't take a turn for the worse. Luis Severino will now start Saturday in Quintana's stead, followed by Christian Scott on Sunday and then David Peterson for Monday's series finale in Miami.
