  • Phillies' Vince Velasquez: Stifles Mets in no-decision

Velasquez didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 3-0 extra-inning loss to the Mets, scattering two hits and a walk over six scoreless innings while striking out three.

The right-hander didn't allow a runner past first base as he dueled Jacob deGrom to a standstill for six innings. Velasquez now has nine quality starts on the season, and he'll take a 4.39 ERA and 110:35 K:BB through 94.1 innings into the All-Star break.

  • Tyler Mahle SP | ATL

Reds' Tyler Mahle: Crushed by Cleveland

Mahle (7-7) took the loss in Wednesday's 19-4 shellacking by Cleveland, coughing up seven runs (five earned) on six hits and two walks over 2.1 innings while striking out one.

It was the right-hander's shortest outing of the season, as Mahle lost his first game since May 20 and saw his ERA rise back over 4.00 for the first time in over a month. He still enjoyed a solid first half, but Mahle's 1.52 HR/9 through 100.2 innings suggests his luck could begin to turn after the All-Star break.

  • Brewers' Freddy Peralta: Inefficient in no-decision against Marlins

Peralta didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 5-4 extra-innings loss to the Marlins, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks over 3.2 innings while striking out four.

The rookie made an early exit after needing 93 pitches (52 strikes) to record only 11 outs, but a Brewers rally in the eighth inning took Peralta off the hook for the loss. He'll head into the All-Star break with a 2.65 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 50:18 K:BB through seven big-league starts and 37.1 innings.

  • Rockies' German Marquez: Cruises to eighth win

Marquez (8-8) allowed two runs on five hits and two walks and struck out eight through six innings in a win over the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

The Rockies piled 19 runs on the Diamondbacks, including nine in the first two frames, so Marquez was able to cruise to a victory. He even helped his cause, as he went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI, including his first home run. He induced 13 swinging strikes and nine groundballs as well to pull together a brilliant all-around performance. Marquez will take a 4.81 ERA into the All-Star break, but he ended the first half on a strong note with three consecutive victories, all quality starts.

  • Miles Mikolas RP | WAS

Cardinals' Miles Mikolas: Won't be active in ASG, starting Sunday

Mikolas will not be on the active roster for the All-Star Game and will instead start Sunday's first-half finale against the Reds, Jenifer Langosch and Max Gelman of MLB.com report.

The right-hander had been the team's only All-Star selection before Yadier Molina was named as the injury replacement for the Giants' Buster Posey (hip). Mikolas could have still been allowed to work an inning in Tuesday's Midsummer Classic, but the Cardinals have already made an official request that he be replaced on the National League active roster. Mikolas will enter Sunday's start with a 10-3 record, 2.65 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 81:18 K:BB across 115.2 innings.

  • Johnny Cueto SP | LAA

Giants' Johnny Cueto: Fans seven over five innings

Cueto did not factor into the decision in Wednesday's extra-innings win over the Cubs, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks while striking out seven over five innings.

Cueto was staked out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, but he yielded a pair of home runs and saw the bullpen fail to protect a one-run lead to leave with him a no-decision. The righty showed improvement in his second start back from the disabled list, whiffing seven batters over the five frames, but his command was hit-and-miss as he also walked three, hit a batter and threw a wild pitch. He's now allowed eight runs over 10 innings in the two starts back from a lengthy layoff, and will head into the All-Star break with a 2.36 ERA over 42 innings.

  • Mike Soroka SP | ARI

Braves' Mike Soroka: Likely sidelined until September

Manager Brian Snitker said Wednesday that Soroka (shoulder) may not return until September, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

Soroka has been on the 60-day disabled list since June 22 due to right shoulder inflammation. The right-hander also complained of arm fatigue and hasn't resumed throwing since being placed on the DL.

  • Pirates' Trevor Williams: Blanks Nationals in five innings

Williams (7-7) got the win Wednesday, tossing five shutout innings with three strikeouts while allowing four hits and three walks against the Nationals.

Williams didn't last long enough to qualify for a quality start, needing 81 pitches (48 strikes) just to get through five frames, but it was still a nice bounce-back effort after he yielded nine runs over seven innings combined his last two times out. The righty doesn't have overpowering stuff, as evidenced by his 71 strikeouts over 99 innings (6.5 K/9), so he's a bit more dependent on going deeper in games to turn in productive outings for fantasy owners. The 26-year-old heads into the All-Star break with a 4.36 ERA.

  • Jake Thompson SP | PHI

Phillies' Jake Thompson: Returns to minors

The Phillies optioned Thompson to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday.

Thompson was called up from Lehigh Valley to serve as the Phillies' 26th man for Monday's doubleheader with the Mets, but went unused in both contests. Over six appearances at the big-league level this season, Thompson has posted a 5.54 ERA and 1.46 WHIP across 13 innings.

  • Mets' Noah Syndergaard: Will start Friday against Washington

Syndergaard (finger) will start against the Nationals on Friday, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Syndergaard felt "great" following a bullpen session Wednesday, which was the final hurdle he had to clear before his return. The right-hander also appeared in a rehab outing with short-season Brooklyn on Sunday, allowing just one run on two hits and one walk while striking out seven across five innings.
