Mike Soroka SP | ARI
Braves' Mike Soroka: Fans seven in first win
Soroka (1-1) picked up the win Wednesday, allowing one run on five hits and three walks over 5.2 innings while striking out seven in a 3-1 victory over the Reds.
The right-hander's evening started and ended in shaky fashion -- he allowed the first three Reds he faced to reach base, then loaded the bases with two outs in the sixth before being replaced by Josh Tomlin, who got a groundout to first base to escape the jam. In between Soroka was sharp. He threw 67 of 109 pitches for strikes, a strong sign Atlanta isn't too concerned about his shoulder, and the 21-year-old appears to be locking down a rotation spot. If he stays on schedule, Soroka's next start would come Monday, at home against the Padres.

Merrill Kelly SP | ARI
Diamondbacks' Merrill Kelly: Picks up second win
Kelly (2-2) allowed two runs on six hits with five strikeouts and two walks across seven innings in a victory against the Pirates on Wednesday.
The 30-year-old gave up two more home runs in this one, giving him five in five starts this season, but both were of the solo variety. Kelly held the Pirates off the scoreboard otherwise in large part because the Pirates went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position during his seven frames. Kelly is 2-2 with a 3.94 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 27 strikeouts in 29.2 innings this season. His next start is scheduled to be Tuesday at home against the Yankees.

Sandy Alcantara SP | MIA
Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Looks sharp versus Indians
Alcantara allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits with two strikeouts and four walks in a no-decision against the Indians on Wednesday.
The 23-year-old was in line for the loss when he departed, but the Marlins tied the game in the eighth. Despite the no-decision and few strikeouts, this was Alcantara's best outing since March 31. Coming into Wednesday, he had yielded 11 runs in his last 11 innings, but this start lowered his ERA to 4.50. He is 1-2 with a 1.50 WHIP and 21 strikeouts in 28 innings across five starts. His next scheduled start is Tuesday at home once again against the Indians.

Cole Hamels SP | SD
Cubs' Cole Hamels: Walks six in no-decision
Hamels gave up three runs on three hits with six walks while striking out seven through 5.1 innings in a no-decision against the Dodgers on Wednesday.
There were some positives as Hamels struck out seven with 14 swinging strikes, but he also allowed six free passes in only 5.1 innings. The 35-year-old had only walked three hitters coming into this contest, so this looks more like the outlier than a cause for concern. The left-hander has a 3-0 record with a 2.59 ERA through five starts. Hamels will make his next start Tuesday in Seattle.

Walker Buehler SP | SD
Dodgers' Walker Buehler: Goes 5.2 innings in no-decision
Buehler gave up three runs on four hits with two walks while striking out one through 5.2 innings in a no-decision against the Cubs on Wednesday.
Buehler pitched 5.2 scoreless innings before giving up a three-run home run to Javier Baez that promptly ended his outing. This wasn't a typical Buehler start as he only induced seven swinging strikes and struck out one batter. It's not been the first month of the season that was expected for the 24-year-old as he has a 2-0 record with a 5.25 ERA and 6.8 K/9 through five starts. Buehler will get his next start Tuesday in San Francisco.

German Marquez SP | SD
Rockies' German Marquez: Grabs third win
Marquez (3-1) earned the win against the Nationals on Wednesday by allowing three runs on eight hits across seven innings. He struck out seven and walked two.
Marquez found himself trailing 3-0 after the top of third inning but the Rockies' offense rallied for nine straight runs and he proceeded to shut down the Nationals to put himself in position for his third win. The 24-year-old has a 2.54 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 37:10 K:BB over 39 innings and lines up to pitch against the Brewers next week.
-
Adam Wainwright SP | STL
Cardinals' Adam Wainwright: Delivers quality start
Wainwright (2-2) earned the win against the Brewers on Wednesday by giving up one run on four hits over six innings. He struck out three and walked one.
Wainwright looked to be in trouble early as he gave up a solo home run and back-to-back singles during the first inning, but he initiated an inning-ending double play and never looked back. The veteran right-hander has a 3.96 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 22:10 K:BB over 25 innings and figures to take the mound again next week at Washington.

Chris Paddack RP | TEX
Padres' Chris Paddack: Dominant against Mariners
Paddack (1-1) got the win against the Mariners on Wednesday, throwing a seven-inning shutout while allowing just one hit, striking out nine and walking one as the Padres prevailed 1-0.
Paddack turned in a brilliant and efficient outing, needing just 83 pitches to make it through seven innings while allowing just two runners to reach base. The rookie has been a revelation so far this season, as he's now sporting a stellar 1.67 ERA, 0.67 WHIP and 30:8 K:BB through 27 innings. He'll look to keep it rolling in his next start, which will see him take the hill in a road matchup against the Braves on Tuesday.

Jacob deGrom SP | TEX
Mets' Jacob deGrom: Remains on track to start Friday
DeGrom (elbow) threw another bullpen session Wednesday without issues and remains on track to start Friday against the Brewers, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
DeGrom dealt with an elbow scare but has received consistently positive news for several days now. He's thrown without issue and was cleared of any serious issue by an MRI, so he should be set to return when first eligible.

MacKenzie Gore SP | TEX
Padres' MacKenzie Gore: Dominating High-A
Gore gave up one run on three hits over six innings for High-A Lake Elsinore on Tuesday, striking out nine with one walk, Bill Center of Padres.com reports.
Gore is dominating opponents through four starts for Lake Elsinore, as this outing gives him a 1.23 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 27 strikeouts over 22 innings. The 2017 first-round pick is showing why he's one of the team's more highly rated prospects, and is making a strong case for a promotion to Double-A in the early going.
