Corbin Burnes SP | ARI
Brewers' Corbin Burnes: Returning to bullpen role
Manager Craig Counsell said Wednesday that Burnes will pitch out of the bullpen for "a little while," Robert Murray of The Athletic reports.
Burnes was a late addition to the roster Wednesday to cover the move of Chase Anderson (finger) to the injured list, and ended up taking the loss as he allowed three runs on three hits and two walks over two innings versus the Rockies. The young right-hander was originally expected to work out the kinks as a starter in the minors after giving up 11 home runs in four major-league starts, but will instead move back to the bullpen following the signing of veteran lefty Gio Gonzalez. Burnes had a 2.61 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 35:11 K:BB over 38 innings out of the bullpen for the Brewers last season, but he clearly still has some work to do in order to regain that form.

Miles Mikolas RP | WAS
Cardinals' Miles Mikolas: Turns in strong start
Mikolas (3-2) allowed seven hits and one walk while striking out four across six innings to earn the win Wednesday against the Nationals.
Mikolas allowed eight baserunners but only one extra-base hit while recording one of his most effective starts this season. Though he hasn't been able to replicate last season's success, he has mostly avoided disastrous outings by going at least five innings in all seven of his starts and allowing no more than four earned runs since his Opening Day effort. He'll look to build on this result in his next start, likely to come Monday against Philadelphia.

Anthony DeSclafani RP | ARI
Reds' Anthony DeSclafani: Turns in another strong start
DeSclafani allowed three hits and a walk while striking out eight across 5.2 scoreless innings Wednesday against the Mets. He did not factor into the decision.
DeSclafani was particularly deceptive Wednesday, turning in his highest strikeout total of the season on the strength of 18 swinging strikes. Though there's little to complain about with this outing, it's worth noting that DeSclafani has gotten pulled out of games relatively early even when pitching well and he has failed to surpass the 91-pitch mark in any outing this season. That said, he's allowed only one earned run across his last 17.2 innings, striking out 20 in the process. He'll look to keep things going in his next start, likely to come at home Monday against the Giants.

Michael Lorenzen RP | TOR
Reds' Michael Lorenzen: Records second save
Lorenzen didn't allow a baserunner and struck out one to record the save Wednesday against the Mets.
With Raisel Iglesias having pitched back-to-back nights, the Reds turned to Lorenzen for the save chance Wednesday. He came through, recording a strikeout and two flyouts to collect his second save of the season. Lorenzen is unlikely to rack up a ton of save opportunities this season, and though he has a 1.08 ERA, his 1.32 WHIP and six walks across 16.2 innings suggest he may be in line to allow a few more earned runs than he has early on.

Jacob deGrom SP | TEX
Mets' Jacob deGrom: Seven shutout innings
DeGrom allowed three hits and two walks while striking out six across seven scoreless innings Wednesday against the Reds. He did not factor into the decision.
DeGrom returned to his dominant form, holding the Reds hitless into the fifth inning and not allowing an extra-base hit for the entirety of his start. He also generated 20 swinging strikes, continuing his elite ability to miss bats. Though his lack of run support was reminiscent of last season, it was encouraging to see him bounce back after allowing 14 earned runs across his last 13 innings spanning three starts. He'll look to keep things going in his next outing, which should come Monday at San Diego.

Cal Quantrill RP | TEX
Padres' Cal Quantrill: Takes loss in debut
Quantrill (0-1) took the loss against the Braves on Wednesday, giving up two earned runs on six hits over 5.2 innings, striking out three and walking one as the Padres fell 5-1.
Quantrill gave up a run in the first inning, but managed to settle down after that and put up a solid line in his big-league debut despite the loss. It remains to be seen if he stays in the rotation given that his presence gives the Padres six starters. It's possible he could be optioned back to Triple-A El Paso, but the 24-year-old may have done enough in this outing to warrant another turn.

Merrill Kelly SP | ARI
Diamondbacks' Merrill Kelly: Notches third win
Kelly (3-2) earned the win against the Yankees on Wednesday by allowed one run on five hits across 5.1 innings. He struck out two and walked two.
Kelly kept the Yankees off the board through five innings but gave up a solo home run and a double during the sixth inning, prompting his exit. The 30-year-old has pitched well through six starts in his rookie campaign with a 3.60 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 29:14 K:BB over 35 innings. Kelly lines up to pitch next at Tampa Bay on Monday.

Chase Anderson RP | TEX
Brewers' Chase Anderson: Moves to injured list
Anderson was placed on the 10-day injured list prior to Wednesday's game against the Rockies with a right middle finger blister, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Apparently Anderson had a blister and callous burst open during his pregame warmup, prompting the Brewers to scramble and make the roster move just minutes before first pitch. Corbin Burnes was called up from Triple-A San Antonio in a corresponding move, though Freddy Peralta (shoulder) -- who will be activated off the IL to start Thursday -- should round out Milwaukee's starting rotation.

Corbin Burnes SP | ARI
Brewers' Corbin Burnes: Returns to Milwaukee
Burnes was called up from Triple-A San Antonio on Wednesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Wednesday's scheduled starter, Chase Anderson, was a late scratch due to a finger laceration, and apparently the Brewers placed him on the injured list before the game and recalled Burnes, though no announcement was made until after first pitch. According to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Burnes was originally scheduled to be activated for Thursday's game, but the team received approval for the last-minute roster move.

Chase Anderson RP | TEX
Brewers' Chase Anderson: Late scratch Wednesday
Anderson was scratched from Wednesday's start versus the Rockies with a cut on his right middle finger, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
It's unclear when exactly Anderson sustained the laceration, but the announcement comes mere minutes before the start of the game. Reliever Jacob Barnes will make his first career start as the Brewers will be forced into a bullpen day.
