  • Wes Parsons RP | CLE

Braves' Wes Parsons: Returns to majors

Parsons was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday.

The 26-year-old began 2019 with the major-league club, but was optioned after recording an ERA of 3.77 and a 12:11 K:BB over 14.1 innings. Since being optioned to Triple-A, he's amassed an ERA of 2.08 with a 41:15 K:BB over 43.1 innings. The right-hander should claim a place in the bullpen for now after Kyle Wright and Touki Toussaint were optioned to Triple-A in corresponding moves.

  • Cole Hamels SP | SD

Cubs' Cole Hamels: Scheduled for bullpen session

Hamels (oblique) will throw a bullpen session sometime this weekend, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

This will be the second bullpen of the week for Hamels, who also threw one Wednesday and claimed that he felt great afterward. The veteran left-hander, who has been out since June 29 with a left oblique strain, is still about a week or so away from rejoining the Cubs' rotation, Tony Andracki of NBC Sports Chicago reports. Prior to the injury, Hamels was 6-3 with a 2.98 ERA and a 97:35 K:BB over 99.2 innings.

  • Mets' Noah Syndergaard: Posts no-decision in loss

Syndergaard held the Giants to one run on six hits and a walk while striking out eight over seven innings Thursday but did not factor into the decision.

The hard-throwing right-hander produced yet another solid outing, but unfortunately, opposing starter Madison Bumgarner matched his efforts as both pitchers left with the score tied, 1-1, causing the game to carry on into the 16th inning. It was the second time this season that Syndergaard did not factor into the decision against the Giants, though last time included a shakier outing that yielded three runs over 6.2 innings. The 26-year-old will take a 4.36 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 118:31 K:BB into a home contest against the Padres on Wednesday.

  • Merrill Kelly SP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Merrill Kelly: Posts quality start in loss

Kelly held the Brewers to one run on three hits with six strikeouts over seven innings but did not factor into the decision during Thursday's 5-1 loss.

Kelly delivered a solid performance in his first career start against a hard-hitting Brewers lineup. The 30-year-old maintained his control and did not issue any free passes. His only blemish came in the second inning after Mike Moustakas tripled and eventually scored the first run of the night. Meanwhile, Brewers starter Zach Davies matched Kelly by only allowing one run, and the score was tied when Kelly left the game. The right-hander will carry a 3.77 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 92:31 K:BB into a juicy matchup against the Orioles on Tuesday.

  • Zach Davies SP | WAS

Brewers' Zach Davies: Posts quality start in win

Davies (8-2) picked up the win Thursday after holding the Diamondbacks to one run on five hits and three walks over seven innings.

Making his 100th career start, Davies turned in a solid performance against a tough Arizona lineup. The 26-year-old failed to miss bats, throwing 59 of 99 pitches for strikes with no strikeouts, but still managed to limit the damage. It was Davies' first win since June 8 as the right-hander posted at least seven innings for the fourth time this year. Davies has now allowed three runs (two earned) over 23.1 innings in his last four starts. He'll carry a 2.79 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 68:35 K:BB into a Tuesday matchup against Cincinnati.

  • Kyle Wright SP | CHC

Braves' Kyle Wright: Allows seven runs in loss

Wright (0-3) allowed seven runs on seven hits and three walks across 2.2 innings Thursday' to take the loss against the Nationals. He struck out three.

After an acceptable opening two innings, Wright crumbled in the third, when he allowed seven runs on four hits and three walks before as he was removed with two outs. This shellacking came over three months after his previous MLB outing, in which he allowed six runs in a similar performance. He could get another turn in the rotation, but he'll need to do much better if he wants to stick with the Braves.

  • Nationals' Stephen Strasburg: Strikes out seven in win over Braves

Strasburg (12-4) allowed three runs on eight hits and two walks across 5.1 innings to earn the win Thursday against the Braves. He struck out seven.

Strasburg scattered baserunners through the early innings before struggling in the sixth, when he allowed two runs on two hits and a walk before leaving with one out. He ensured himself the win with his own bat, as he drove in five runs on three hits at the dish to help his club pull away. Strasburg came in with 13.1 scoreless innings over his last two turns, so while this was an acceptable performance, it was a step down from his recent results. He'll look to bounce back next week at home against the Rockies.

  • Dodgers' Ross Stripling: Strikes out five

Stripling allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits and no walks while striking out five across five innings Thursday against Philadelphia. He did not factor into the decision.

Stripling allowed a run in each of the first three innings prior to settling in to retire the final six batters he faced. He's slowly built up his pitch count since beginning work as a starter and was allowed to surpass 85 pitches for the first time this season on Thursday. After being roughed up during his first few appearances in the rotation, Stripling has seen improved results of late, allowing only three earned runs with 12 strikeouts and no walks across his last ten frames. He'll look to build on the recent stretch in his next start, likely to come Wednesday against the Angels.

  • Zack Wheeler SP | PHI

Mets' Zack Wheeler: Throws again Thursday

Wheeler (shoulder) made 10 throws from 75 feet and 15 throws from 90 feet Thursday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

Wheeler has now thrown on back-to-back days, though the Mets will continue to proceed with caution with the right-hander. "We'll just see how this plays out with him," stated manager Mickey Callaway. "Obviously, playing catch and how he feels continuing to play catch will dictate a lot of what goes on next. So we'll just feel him out day to day and see where we're at." Wheeler was placed on the 10-day injured list July 15 due to right shoulder fatigue.

  • Aaron Nola SP | PHI

Phillies' Aaron Nola: Surrenders four earned runs

Nola allowed four earned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out five across five innings Thursday against the Dodgers. He did not factor into the decision.

Nola was taken yard three times, accounting for all four of his earned runs. He also continued to struggle with his control, walking three or more batters for the fourth consecutive start. The effort also ended his five-start stretch of allowing one or fewer earned runs, though the Dodgers do pose one of the toughest matchups in the league. Nola will look to bounce back in his outing start, likely to come Wednesday at Detroit.
