Falter got a no-decision in Sunday's 5-4 loss to Miami, allowing three runs on four hits and one walk in two innings. He failed to record a strikeout.

Making his first career start, Falter permitted three straight hits and two runs to open the bottom of the first and another run in the second before departing having thrown just 30 pitches. Fortunately for the 24-year-old, Philadelphia tied the score at 3-3 in the third to get Falter off the hook for the loss. The rookie concludes the 2021 campaign with a 2-1 record in 22 games with a 5.61 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 34:6 K:BB in 33.2 innings pitched.

Lopez got a no-decision in Sunday's 5-4 win against the Phillies, allowing one run on four hits and one walk with four strikeouts in 1.2 innings.

Making his first start since the All-Star break due to a strained rotator cuff, Lopez surrendered his lone run on a Freddy Galvis home run to lead off the second and recorded an impressive four of five outs via strikeout. He concludes his injury-shortened season with a 5-5 record in 21 games (20 starts) along with a 3.07 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 115:26 K:BB in 102.2 innings.

Buehler (16-4) got the win in Sunday's 10-3 victory over Milwaukee, allowing one run on three hits and one walk with 11 strikeouts in five innings.

With the NL West crown still up for grabs, Dave Roberts turned to Buehler for the crucial game 162 start and the Cy Young contender delivered an electric performance. The 27-year-old recorded his first seven outs via strikeout and kept the score close until Los Angeles broke out with six runs in the fifth inning. Buehler submits a final 2021 line that features a 16-4 record in 33 starts with a 2.47 ERA that ranks third in MLB, a 0.97 WHIP and 212:52 K:BB in 207.2 innings.

The Giants outrighted Quintana to Triple-A Sacramento after he cleared waivers Sunday.

Though the 32-year-old southpaw had the option of refusing the minor-league assignment and electing free agency, he'll remain in the organization for the time being, perhaps in anticipation of being added to the postseason roster in October if the Giants require another relief arm. After being scooped up off waivers from the Angels in late August, Quintana made five relief appearances for San Francisco, giving up five earned runs while striking out 12 in 9.2 innings.

The Marlins activated Lopez (shoulder) from the 60-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Sunday against the Phillies, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

On the shelf since the All-Star break with a strained left rotator cuff, Lopez was able to make it back on the mound for the final game of the regular season after recently wrapping up a two-start rehab assignment at Triple-A Jacksonville. Since Lopez was capped at two innings in his most recent outing Sept. 23, the Marlins presumably won't have him cover more than four frames Sunday before turning the game over to the bullpen.

The Nationals recalled Adon from Triple-A Rochester ahead of his scheduled start Sunday against the Red Sox in Washington.

While making his MLB debut Sunday, Adon will be looking to play spoiler against the Red Sox, who can secure a wild-card spot with a victory over Washington. Adon arrives in Washington having little high-level experience in the minors, as he made just one four-inning start at Triple-A before receiving his first big-league call-up. The 23-year-old righty will likely have a short leash Sunday.

Smyly (11-4) earned the win in relief Saturday against the Mets after tossing three scoreless innings, giving up one hit and two walks while fanning three.

Smyly piggybacked Jesse Chavez's two-inning start and was effective enough to earn his 11th win of the campaign. If Saturday was his final outing of the regular season, he'll end the year on a strong note with six straight appearances allowing one or fewer runs. He enters the final day of the regular season posting a 4.48 ERA through 126.2 innings across 29 appearances (23 starts).

Carrasco (1-5) was tagged with the loss Saturday against Atlanta after allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks while fanning five across five innings.

Carrasco had quite a few ups and downs throughout the season but ends the year on a sour note, as he gave up exactly five runs in each of his last two appearances. The veteran made 12 starts in his first year with the Mets and posted a woeful 6.04 ERA, a figure that represents his worst mark since 2013.

Falter will start Sunday's game against the Marlins, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Falter has made 12 appearances out of the bullpen for Philadelphia since being activated from the COVID-19 injured list in mid-August, and he'll now receive his first MLB start in the season finale. The left-hander made six starts at Triple-A Lehigh Valley this season, but he hasn't covered more than three frames in an outing since mid-June. Falter may pitch as long as he can Sunday, though he's unlikely to have the workload of a traditional starter given his lack of buildup.

Burnes (11-5) took the loss in Saturday's 8-3 defeat at the hands of the Dodgers, allowing three runs on two hits and one walk with four strikeouts in two innings.

Burnes surrendered a three-run Justin Turner home run in the first inning and was pulled in the third for a pinch hitter to submit his shortest start of the 2021 campaign. Milwaukee's status as the cemented number two seed no doubt contributed to Burnes' abbreviated start, and the 26-year-old righty concludes the season with an 11-5 record in 28 starts featuring a 2.43 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 234:34 K:BB in 167 innings pitched.
