Wright (16-5) picked up the win Wednesday, allowing two hits and a walk over seven scoreless innings in a 14-2 rout of the Pirates. He struck out eight.

He only faced any kind of threat in the third inning after issuing a two-out walk followed by an Oneil Cruz single, but Kevin Newman lined out straight back to Wright to end the frame. The right-hander generated 15 swinging strikes among his 73 pitches en route to his third straight quality start and his seventh in his last eight outings. Wright will take a 2.99 ERA and 144:41 K:BB through 147.2 innings into his next start.

Webb (11-7) allowed six earned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out six across 4.2 innings to take the loss Wednesday against the Tigers.

Webb imploded in the fifth inning, as he allowed five hits and a walk to account for all six of the earned runs charged to him. He's now allowed six earned runs in two of his last five starts while recording only two quality starts in his last six outings. Despite the rough stretch, Webb still has a 3.33 ERA and a 130:45 K:BB across 159.1 frames on the season.

Soroka (Achilles) will make his next rehab start Saturday with Triple-A Gwinnett, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

Soroka threw 58 pitches over 3.1 frames in his previous outing with Gwinnett last weekend, and he should continue building up his workload. The 25-year-old could require one additional rehab start after Saturday and lines up for a return from the injured list in early September.

Snell (5-7) took the loss Wednesday, allowing six runs on eight hits and four strikeouts over 3.1 innings against the Guardians.

Snell surrendered two home runs to third baseman Jose Ramirez, the second of which was followed by another blast from Oscar Gonzalez in the next at-bat. In the six starts prior to this blowup, the lefty had been enjoying an outstanding stretch with a 1.60 ERA and 46 strikeouts over 33.2 innings. The 29-year-old has been slightly worse at home with a 3-5 record and 4.42 ERA in 53 innings, compared to a 2-2 mark and 3.97 ERA in 34 innings on the road.

Matz (knee) threw a 30-pitch bullpen session Wednesday with no problems, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

The left-hander threw a low-intensity side session over the weekend but has now progressed to mound work, and the Cardinals are apparently quite pleased with his recovery progress. Matz has pitched in only one game since May and is likely to require a multi-start rehab assignment in the minors before being reinstated from the injured list, so he shouldn't be expected back for at least a couple more weeks.

Farrell had his contract selected from Triple-A Iowa and will start for the Cubs against the Cardinals on Wednesday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Farrell joined Chicago on a minor-league deal in April and has a 5.03 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 49:28 K:BB across 59 innings at Triple-A this year. It's likely to be a spot start for the 31-year-old, who has a 4.93 ERA over 63 career appearances in the big leagues.

Hendricks (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Wednesday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Hendricks' move to the 60-day IL isn't surprising since the Cubs announced Monday that he won't return to the field this season. The right-hander isn't expected to need surgery and is on track to resume strengthening work in a few weeks, so it seems likely that he'll be ready to go in time for spring training in 2023.

Houser (elbow) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list ahead of Wednesday's start against the Dodgers.

Houser recently completed a three-game rehab assignment in which he allowed six runs (three earned) on six hits and seven walks while striking out 10 in 8.1 innings. He was slated to throw 60-75 pitches during a rehab start Sunday before the Brewers decided to bring him back for Wednesday's series finale, so he'll likely be on a pitch count against the Dodgers.

Sanchez was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley ahead of Wednesday's start against the Reds.

Sanchez has been in the minors since mid-July but will make a spot start Wednesday to give the rest of the Phillies' rotation an extra day of rest. Over 10 appearances (two starts) in the majors this year, he's posted a 3.80 ERA and 1.06 WHIP in 23.2 innings.

Gore (elbow) threw off a mound Wednesday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Gore increased his throwing distance to 120 feet last week, and Wednesday's throwing session marked the first time that he's thrown off a mound since joining the Nationals. The southpaw still needs to ramp up his intensity, but the team hopes that he'll be able to return prior to the end of the regular season.
