Peterson is meeting up with the Mets on Tuesday in Cincinnati, Michael Mayer of MetsmerizedOnline.com reports.

Peterson was supposed to start for Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday, but it sounds like he's going to be the backup plan for the Mets in case Max Scherzer (shoulder) isn't ready to take his scheduled turn Tuesday night against the Reds. There should be more clarity on the situation soon enough.

Shuster will likely get the call to start in place of Max Fried (forearm) Wednesday against the Red Sox, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

Dylan Dodd would be the other option, but he was just sent back to Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday and isn't eligible to return until next week, unless there's another injury on Atlanta's current active roster. Shuster has pitched well this year in the minors but has surrendered eight earned runs on 12 hits and nine walks in 8.2 major-league innings. He's a risky fantasy bet versus Boston.

Freeland (3-4) took the loss Monday, allowing two runs on seven hits and three walks over seven innings in a 2-0 loss to the Pirates. He struck out four.

Freeland, who allowed a season-high seven runs last time he faced Pittsburgh, tossed six scoreless frames before surrendering a two-run home run to Rodolfo Castro in the seventh. Despite the quality start, the left-hander picked up his fourth loss, as Mitch Keller tossed a complete-game shutout. Freeland has been solid to start 2023, posting a 3.57 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 30:11 K:BB through eight starts (45.1 innings).

Keller (4-1) earned the win Monday, tossing a complete-game shutout in which he allowed four hits and one walk during a 2-0 win over the Rockies. He struck out eight.

Keller struck out at least eight batters for a third straight outing and tossed his first career complete-game shutout, marking the first time a Pirate has reached that feat since Jameson Taillon did during the 2018 season. The right-hander has been superb to start the 2023 campaign and currently sports a 2.72 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 56:14 K:BB through eight starts (49.2 innings). Keller will look to maintain his momentum in his next start, which is tentatively scheduled for a three-game weekend set in Baltimore.

Atlanta placed Fried on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a strained left forearm.

Atlanta had been cagey about whether Fried would be making his next start and now we know what he's been dealing with. The move is retroactive to Saturday, which means Fried will be eligible to return May 21. He's not going to be ready by then, though, with Mark Bowman of MLB.com saying "this won't be a short-term IL." Jared Shuster projects as the rotation replacement for Fried on Wednesday versus the Red Sox.

DeSclafani (3-2) took the loss Monday, allowing five runs on 10 hits and one walk over seven innings against Washington. He struck out three.

Although DeSclafani pitched deep into the game, his five earned runs allowed were the most he's given up this year. However, the right-hander is still having a great season, as his 0.93 WHIP is tied for sixth in MLB. The 33-year-old is still a dependable option heading into his next start, tentatively scheduled to take place against the Diamondbacks this weekend.

Irvin (1-0) earned the win Monday, allowing four hits and three walks over 6.1 scoreless innings in a 5-1 win over the Giants. He struck out five.

Irvin has now allowed just one run over 10.2 innings, getting his big-league career off to an impressive start after working his way up the ranks in Washington's farm system for three-plus seasons. However, this is a very small sample size, and fantasy managers would be best served tempering expectations until he proves capable of sustaining that caliber of performance over an extended period.

Garrett (1-2) took the loss against Arizona on Monday, allowing four runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out six batters over 5.1 innings.

Garrett gave up 11 runs over 4.1 frames against Atlanta in his previous start, so just about anything he could have done Monday would have been an improvement. The left-hander managed to give Miami some length with 5.1 innings, and he didn't give up a run until the fourth, but a Christian Walker homer in the sixth, followed by two straight singles, was enough to end his night and set him on to his second straight defeat. Garrett has a 5.97 ERA on the campaign, though it would be a much more palatable 3.29 if not for the blow-up in his previous outing.

Gallen (5-1) earned the win over Miami on Monday, allowing one run on five hits and one walk while striking out seven batters over seven innings.

Gallen tied his season high with seven innings in the victory, and he likely could have gone deeper given that he threw a modest 90 pitches. The right-hander didn't allow any homers for the sixth straight outing and registered his fifth quality start over that span. After starting the season with two subpar starts, Gallen has been incredible across his past six trips to the mound, posting a minuscule 0.92 ERA and 0.62 WHIP with a ridiculous 54:2 K:BB over 39 innings. He's tied for the NL lead with five wins and ranks second in MLB with 64 punchouts on the campaign.

Stroman (2-3) allowed two runs on four hits and a walk over six innings Monday, striking out six and taking a loss against the Cardinals.

Stroman allowed a run in the second and sixth innings but didn't face much trouble otherwise. He once again didn't receive help from his offense and fell to 0-3 over his last six starts despite allowing two or fewer runs in five of those. Stroman owns a strong 2.28 ERA with a 44:17 K:BB across 47.1 frames. The 32-year-old tied his season low with 89 pitches but also tied his season best with 14 whiffs. Stroman is currently expected to start in Minnesota this weekend.
