  • Royals' Seth Lugo: No-decision in loss

Lugo did not determine the decision in Wednesday's 9-7 win against the Athletics, giving up five runs on nine hits and no walks over six innings. He struck out three. Lugo was plagued by a rough three-run fifth inning in Wednesday's game where the Athletic's had five hits, but he allowed only four base runners the rest of his start. The 36-year-old now has now pitched 14 straight innings without giving up a walk, but there has been 12 runs given up in that stretch. The right-hander will support a 4.71 ERA and 1.38 WHIP into next week's start in Toronto.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Early hook in no-decision

Lugo did not factor into the decision in Friday's 7-6 win over the Angels, allowing five runs on seven hits and no walks with four strikeouts over 4.2 innings. Lugo was mostly undone by a four-run third inning and departed after 86 pitches in the fifth after allowing a game-tying single with two outs. It's been an uneven second half for the veteran, who's posted four quality starts in six outings while also succumbing to two five-run blowups. He owns a 4.59 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 108:46 K:BB across 139.1 innings this season and lines up to face the Athletics at home next week.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Quality start in fifth win

Lugo (5-7) earned the win against the Cubs on Saturday, allowing three runs on five hits and one walk in six innings. He struck out five. Lugo was pretty effective against a formidable Cubs lineup, tossing 61 of his 90 pitches for strikes while hanging on for a quality start after giving up his third run of the game in the sixth inning. Saturday's outing marked the 36-year-old right-hander's fourth quality start in his past five outings as well. Lugo will carry a pedestrian 4.41 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 104:46 K:BB over 134.2 innings into his next scheduled appearance against the Angels in Anaheim.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Shaky control in seventh loss

Lugo (4-7) allowed five runs on five hits and five walks while striking out three over five-plus innings to take the loss versus the Rockies on Sunday. Lugo just didn't have his control in place Sunday -- the five walks were a season high. He threw 52 of 99 pitches for strikes. Lugo's been prone to a few bad starts this season, though he had posted three consecutive quality starts prior to this outing. He's produced a 4.41 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 99:45 K:BB through 128.2 innings over 23 starts on the year. The 36-year-old is tentatively projected for a home start versus the Cubs in his next outing.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Fires another quality start

Lugo did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing one run on six hits and two walks over six innings in a 3-2 loss against Minnesota. He struck out two. It's the third consecutive quality start and 13th of the campaign for Lugo, who still has only four wins through 22 starts. Tuesday's victory slipped through his fingers when Royce Lewis delivered a two-run, walk-off triple in the ninth inning. The veteran right-hander certainly isn't dominant -- with his 7.0 K/9 being the lowest since his rookie year -- and is prone to blowups with five starts of at least five runs allowed, but Lugo still has respectable numbers this year with a 4.22 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 96:40 K:BB over 123.2 innings.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Collects fourth win

Lugo (4-6) picked up the win Wednesday, giving up three runs on three hits and two walks over seven innings in a 5-4 victory over the Giants. He struck out five. The veteran right-hander delivered his second straight quality start and 12th of the season on 94 pitches (63 strikes), and Lugo got rewarded for his efforts when Kansas City erupted for five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. The win was Lugo's first since June 19, and over five starts and 27.1 innings in July he's managed a 4.94 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 25:8 K:BB. He'll look to build on his recent success in his next outing, which is set to come on the road early next week in Minnesota.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Takes no-decision Friday

Lugo allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out three over six innings a no-decision Friday against the Padres. Lugo recorded six strong innings on 93 pitches but did not factor into the decision against San Diego. The two runs Lugo allowed crossed the plate on the same play due to a fielding error by Michael Massey, which allowed both Ty France and Miguel Andujar to score in the top of the fifth. After making his 20th start of the year, the 36-year-old Lugo now maintains a 4.39 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 89:36 K:BB through 110.2 innings this season. Lugo is in line to make his next start Wednesday against the Giants.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Six Ks in no-decision

Lugo took a no-decision Sunday against the Orioles, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks in four innings. He struck out six. Just one of the hits allowed went for extra bases, though it was a two-run home run off the bat of Leody Taveras in the second inning. The 36-year-old right-hander looked spry to begin the campaign, posting a 1.15 ERA and 0.93 WHIP over his first five appearances, but he's limped to a 6.01 ERA and 1.65 WHIP while failing to produce a scoreless start across his last 14 outings. For the season, Lugo has a pedestrian 4.56 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 86:34 K:BB through 104.2 innings.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Falls to Tampa Bay

Lugo (3-6) took the loss Wednesday against the Rays, allowing three runs on nine hits over six innings. He struck out seven. Lugo got off to a shaky start Wednesday, allowing a two-run homer to Junior Caminero in the first inning. He'd settle in and hold the Rays scoreless until Cedric Mullins launched a solo shot with two outs in the sixth, though the Royals failed to provide Lugo with any run support in an eventual 4-0 defeat. Despite the loss, it was an encouraging bounce-back effort from Lugo, who gave up seven runs in five innings during his previous outing (also against Tampa Bay). The veteran right-hander now sports a 4.20 ERA with a 1.38 WHIP and 76:30 K:BB across 17 starts (96.1 innings). Lugo is currently lined up to face the Phillies at home his next time out.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Collects third win of season

Lugo (3-4) earned the win Friday against the Cardinals after allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and three walks across six innings. He didn't record a single strikeout. Lugo failed to record a strikeout for the first time this season, but he still posted a quality start in his return to the rotation after he was on the shelf for the past week due to a concussion. Lugo has been pitching well of late, allowing three runs or fewer in five of his last six appearances. Over that stretch, he has a 3.58 ERA and 1.22 WHIP despite a below-average 5.5 K/9. Lugo is poised to make his next start on the road against Tampa Bay.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Reinstated for Friday's start

The Royals reinstated Lugo (concussion) from the 7-day injured list to start Friday's game against the Cardinals. The 36-year-old has been on the shelf for the past week after being struck in the head by a comebacker, but he'll quickly re-enter Kansas City's rotation. Lugo has a 3.86 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 66:25 K:BB across 79.1 innings through 14 starts this season.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Poised to start Friday

Lugo (concussion) is expected to be reinstated from the 7-day injured list to start Friday against the Nationals, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. The right-hander landed on the shelf after being struck in the head by a comebacker during his June 10 start against Texas, but his stay on the IL won't be a long one. Lugo felt good after recently throwing a bullpen session earlier this week and shouldn't face any notable limitations in his first start back, given the brevity of the absence.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Continuing to throw since IL move

Lugo (concussion) has continued to take part in a throwing progression since being placed on the 7-day injured list Friday, MLB.com reports. Though a CT scan came back clean after Lugo was forced out of his start last Wednesday against the Rangers when he was struck in the head by a line drive, the Royals deactivated him a couple days later after he developed a headache. Since he's not being shut down from throwing, Lugo seems to be making good progress in his recovery, but he'll still need to clear all phases of the concussion protocol before the Royals activate him. Lugo would appear to have a chance at being ready to make a start at some point during the Royals' upcoming three-game series with the Cardinals that runs from Thursday through Sunday.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Placed on concussion IL

The Royals placed Lugo on the 7-day concussion list Friday. Lugo was struck in the forehead by a line drive during Wednesday's game against the Rangers. The good news for Lugo was that a subsequent CT scan came back negative, but he's now in the league's concussion protocol and will need to hit multiple checkpoints before being cleared to return to the majors. In a corresponding move, the Royals recalled Eli Morgan from Triple-A Omaha.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Hit by comebacker, leaves game

Lugo was removed from Wednesday's game against the Rangers after getting hit on the head by a comebacker, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports. The right-hander made it through 3.1 innings of one-run ball Wednesday before a 106.6-mph line drive off the bat of Brandon Nimmo connected with Lugo's forehead in the fourth. He was able to get to his feet relatively quickly but was immediately pulled by the Royals' training staff and will presumably enter concussion protocol. An update on his status may be available after the game.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Struggles in no-decision

Lugo did not factor into the decision Thursday against the Twins, allowing five runs on six hits and one walk while striking out four over five innings. Lugo got off to a rough start when Byron Buxton led off the game with a home run, and the veteran right-hander never fully settled in. He allowed a run in each of his five innings of work, including three total home runs. The outing snapped what had been a strong stretch for Lugo, who entered Thursday having allowed just six runs combined across his previous three starts. He now owns a 3.91 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 64:24 K:BB across 76 innings this season. Lugo is scheduled to face Texas at home in his next start.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Third straight quality start

Lugo didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 7-6 loss to the Rangers, giving up three runs (one earned) on six hits over six innings. He struck out six without walking a batter. The veteran righty reeled off his third straight quality start and eighth of the season on 90 pitches (64 strikes), but Lugo watched his potential third win of the year slip away when Lucas Erceg fell apart in the ninth inning. Lugo will take a 3.55 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 60:23 K:BB through 71 innings into his next outing, which is set to come on the road next week in Minnesota.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Quality start in second win

Lugo (2-4) earned the win Sunday against the Mariners, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks in 6.1 innings. He struck out three. Lugo served up a rare home run, his third allowed this year, but otherwise provided a solid performance Sunday. Although it was his seventh quality start already this season, the 36-year-old right-hander has surrendered at least three runs in four of his past six outings after yielding two or fewer in his previous five appearances. Lugo will carry a decent 3.74 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 54:23 K:BB over 65 innings into his next scheduled start in Texas against the Rangers.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Yields five runs in loss

Lugo (1-3) took the loss against the White Sox on Wednesday, allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out four across five innings. Lugo generated just three groundouts and five whiffs on 92 pitches during Wednesday's start. It was the fourth game in a row that he allowed at least 10 baserunners, and over that span he has produced a dreadful 7.59 ERA, 2.16 WHIP and 18:9 K:BB across 21.1 innings. Lugo will look to turn things around in his next start, which is lined up for next week at home against the Red Sox.

  • Royals' Seth Lugo: Logs quality start in no-decision

Lugo did not factor into the decision in Saturday's 3-2 extra-inning win over the Mariners, allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks with six strikeouts over six innings. Lugo allowed runs in the first and fifth innings, throwing 66 of 103 pitches for strikes while limiting the Mariners to just one extra-base hit. It was a much-needed rebound effort after the 36-year-old surrendered seven earned runs last Sunday, and he's now delivered five quality starts in seven outings this season. He'll carry a 2.68 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 37:13 K:BB across 43.2 innings into a home matchup against the Guardians next week.
