Junis (shoulder) remains limited to throwing on flat ground, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Junis will be eligible for activation from the 15-day injured list this weekend, but it doesn't sound like he's close to returning. The 31-year-old is in the early stages of ramping things back up as he works his way back from a right shoulder impingement.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday that Kahnle (shoulder) will need to throw 1-to-2 more bullpen sessions before progressing to facing hitters, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

Kahnle threw off the mound Tuesday for the second time since he had his rehab slowed because of a lingering shoulder issue. It would appear he should be ready for his first live batting practice session next week and he'll likely need at least a couple of those before being cleared for a rehab assignment.

The Padres recalled Gillaspie from Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday.

Gillaspie will provide the San Diego bullpen with a fresh arm for Wednesday's game in Milwaukee, but he could be sent back to Triple-A in the near future if the Friars opt to call up an El Paso starter to fill Yu Darvish's (neck) spot in the rotation this weekend or early next week. Through five appearances at Triple-A this season, Gillaspie posted a 9.00 ERA and 2.40 WHIP over five innings.

Barlow struck out two in a perfect inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 10-7 extra-innings win over the Red Sox.

Barlow has been shaky this year, but he showed no trouble in protecting a three-run lead in the 11th inning. He threw nine of 14 pitches for strikes. This was his third consecutive scoreless outing, and it earned him his first save of the season after Emmanuel Clase failed to lock things down in the 10th. Barlow has a 4.32 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 9:6 K:BB with four holds through 8.1 innings this season.

The Diamondbacks selected Allen's contract from Triple-A Reno on Wednesday.

Arizona is in need of bullpen reinforcements following Tuesday's extra-inning victory over the Cubs. Allen has yielded four earned runs with a 9:3 K:BB over 12 innings with Reno this season and should be able to cover multiple frames out of the bullpen when needed.

Martinez was recalled from Triple-A Reno by the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

Martinez got a cup of coffee with the Diamondbacks last season, allowing 14 runs with a 14:11 K:BB over 10 innings. He had posted a 2.70 ERA with a 14:3 K:BB across 6.2 frames this season at Reno. Martinez has a huge arm built to miss bats, but throwing strikes is a major problem. He'll likely be used in low-leverage spots for now.

Frias was optioned to Triple-A Reno by the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

Frias was tagged for three runs without recording an out in Tuesday's extra-innings win over the Cubs. He's being sent out in favor of a fresh bullpen arm.

Kansas City recalled Veneziano from Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday.

Veneziano will serve as the 27th man for Wednesday's doubleheader against the White Sox. The lefty has made two starts and two relief appearances with Omaha this season, allowing four runs with an 8:4 K:BB across 11 innings. He'll likely be returned to Omaha following the doubleheader.

The Brewers designated Gutierrez for assignment Wednesday.

After being claimed off waivers from the Blue Jays earlier this month, Gutierrez will end his time on the Brewers' 40-man roster without having made an appearance for the big club. Milwaukee will replace him on the 40-man roster with right-hander Tobias Myers, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Nashville ahead of Wednesday's game against the Padres. Gutierrez had made two appearances (one start) with Nashville and will stick around with the affiliate if he clears waivers.

The Brewers optioned Koenig to Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday.

He'll cede his spot in the Milwaukee bullpen to right-hander Tobias Myers, whose contract was selected from Nashville ahead of Wednesday's series finale versus San Diego. After being called up from Nashville on Sunday, Koenig proceeded to pitch in relief in both of the first two games of the series with San Diego, tossing 3.2 scoreless innings and striking out two while allowing three hits and no walks.
