Edwards struck out two in a scoreless appearance against Oakland on Friday.

The Cubs made some moves to shore up their bullpen at the trading deadline, but they already had a number of strong options in house, including Edwards, who has a 0.61 WHIP and 25:5 K:BB in 18 innings. He has not given up a hit in any of his last seven appearances.

Gomez earned his 28th save of the season Friday with a scoreless inning against the Padres.

Gomez, who returned from paternity leave Friday, did make it interesting by allowing a couple of hits, but he was helped by a double play and got out of the inning to preserve a one-run lead. His 28 saves are fifth in the National League.

Gomez was activated from the paternity list, and is available to pitch in Friday's matchup with the Padres, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

Gomez was placed on the paternity leave Wednesday, and missed two games as a result. The 28-year-old sports an impressive 2.72 ERA in 49.2 innings this season.

Kiekhefer was optioned to Triple-A Memphis on Friday, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.

Kiekhefer's latest stint in the major leagues lasted all of two days, as he was the roster casualty with Matt Carpenter's return from the disabled list. He's bounced between levels frequently since mid-May and will likely continue riding the shuttle before settling in with St. Louis for good when rosters expand.

Sierra has been promoted to Double-A Tulsa, J.P. Hoornstra of the Southern California News Group reports.

Sierra, who was converted to a reliever in July, has pitched well in seven relief appearances at High-A Rancho Cucamonga, giving up only four runs in 14 innings. Double-A will be tough test for the 25-year-old, who has never pitched above High-A in the minors.

Hoffman, 23, allowed six earned runs on seven hits in just 2.2 innings Monday for Triple-A Albuquerque.

That's the second time in four outings that Hoffman has surrendered at least six earned runs. He has failed to pitch more than five innings in four straight starts. After being considered for a promotion to the big leagues earlier this summer, Hoffman's ERA has risen from 2.67 on June 3 to 4.35 at present.

Jansen struck out two in a perfect ninth for his 32nd save Thursday against the Rockies at Coors Field.

One way to make sure Coors doesn't work against you is to make sure the ball doesn't go to the outfield, and Jansen did just that with his two whiffs and a grounder. As great as he was last year, Jansen's been even better this year, with his 0.66 WHIP leading all MLB relievers (min. 20 innings).

Moore gave up two runs on three hits and six walks while striking out seven over six innings in a no-decision against the Phillies on Thursday.

While Moore wasn't particularly sharp in his Giants debut, he was able to limit the damage from the six free passes, as the Phillies were unable to barrel him up. He allowed just one hit over his first five frames Thursday, and now hasn't allowed more than five hits in any of his last four starts. Moore's stock figures to trend up as he gets more time to work with Buster Posey and pitching coach Dave Righetti.

With Bud Norris sidelined with a back strain, De Leon could be an option to start for the Dodgers on Saturday, David Vassegn of Dodger Talk reports.

After a poor start on July 25 for Triple-A Oklahoma City, De Leon bounced back nicely against Triple-A Colorado Springs, pitching seven innings while only giving up three runs. On the season, De Leon owns a 3.83 ERA and 1.14 WHIP with 66 strikeouts in 51.2 innings. De Leon, who was a breakout prospect in 2014, is the Dodgers top pitching prospect behind Julio Urias and has the upside to become a top-of-the-rotation starter.

Hoover cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Louisville on Thursday.

Hoover was designated for assignment after compiling a 4.76 ERA over his last 10 appearances for Triple-A Louisville but did not get picked up by another club during his waiver period and will remain with Cincinnati. He'll head back to Louisville where he'll reassume a 3.71 ERA and 1.28 WHIP over 26.2 innings for the minor league affiliate.
