Manager Pete Mackanin said Neris would fill in as closer for Jeanmar Gomez while he is on the paternity list, Evan Webeck of MLB.com reports.

Gomez is expected to return to the Phillies on Thursday even though he is eligible to be away from the team until Saturday. Neris was used in the ninth inning Wednesday and tossed a scoreless inning to preserve a 4-4 tie in a game the Phillies would go on to win in extra innings.

Coleman was placed on the disabled list with right shoulder fatigue.

Coleman's July struggles (five earned runs over 11 innings) may be somewhat explained by his injury. With a collective ERA of just 3.06, the Dodgers have one of the league's deepest bullpens, so they're likely to take their time before bringing Coleman back from the DL. The team has yet to indicate the severity of his injury.

Fields was recalled by the Dodgers on Wednesday, Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register reports.

Fields was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City by the Dodgers on July 22. Since then, the 30-year-old has pitched three scoreless innings for Triple-A, striking out four. Fields will join the Dodgers' bullpen, giving them some much-needed depth.

Gomez was placed on the paternity list Wednesday, Stephen Gross of the Morning Call reports.

The Phillies have yet to indicate when their closer will be back in action, but a return at some point over the weekend is likely. If the Phillies have a save opportunity during Gomez's absence, they'll likely opt to use Hector Neris to close the game. Neris posted a dominant ERA of 1.69 over 10.2 innings in July and leads the club with 19 holds.

Gomez was placed on the paternity list Wednesday.

Gomez will be unavailable Wednesday and may not return until this weekend. Hector Neris figures to get the save opportunity for the Phillies if one comes up in Wednesday's game against the Giants.

The Braves have optioned Weber back to Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

Weber made two appearances before getting sent down, allowing no runs in 2.2 innings. He will head back to Triple-A Gwinnett where he has a 3.11 ERA in 55 innings.

Hader, 22, has a 6.05 ERA and 49:23 K:BB through 38.2 innings at Triple-A.

After dominating the competition at Double-A to begin the year, Hader has battled control problems en route to a bloated ERA through eight starts at Triple-A. In fact, he has walked at least three batters in five of those eight outings. The strikeout numbers continue to make him a high-upside hurler, but any notion of him seeing the big leagues in 2016 has likely been put to rest.

Matzek was promoted to Double-A Hartford on Friday, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports.

Matzek missed time earlier in the season due to some performance anxiety, but it seems that he's doing well enough to advance to the next stage of the minor leagues. The left-hander's 4.71 ERA wasn't very impressive during his time with High-A Modesto, especially for a reliever, so he'll have to figure some things out if he wants to get back up to the Triple-A level before the conclusion of the season.

Guerra, 20, is batting an abysmal .198/.262/.324 with nine home runs, 39 RBI and four steals through 100 games for High-A Lake Elsinore.

Dealt as part of the Craig Kimbrel trade in the offseason, Guerra has struggled to make consistent contact in 2016. Guerra has fanned an astounding 132 times over those 100 games, as his prospect status has clearly taken a hit.

Smith made his first appearance with the Giants on Tuesday, giving up two runs on two hits over one-third of an inning in a loss to the Phillies.

Smith entered a tie game in the eighth inning and gave up back-to-back hits after striking out Freddy Galvis. He was lifted for Sergio Romo who promptly allowed both runners to score as well as three runs of his own. It wasn't the debut Smith or the Giants were hoping for, but he should continue to appear late in games for the club down the stretch. Moving from a losing club in Milwaukee to a team in the playoff race should increase his opportunities to rack up holds.
